The Void Between Universes

When I heard that I tried to sit straight but I found out that I wasn't able to move that much as I felt so weak to the point that even moving was a problem:

"Don't move a lot" the voice said again.

Remembering the voice and forgetting about my weak body for a while I looked at its source and I found a gently smiling black haired woman in the mid of her twenties she was holding a plat with some bread and soup on it.

"You need to eat before we talk you are so weak right now even though I kept you in a good shape by giving you spiritual power a mortal will need food no matter what" she added as she saw me keep looking at her.

I was going to ask her where I was and who was she and what did she mean with a mortal but when she put the food in front of me and I smelt it, I forget about all of that as started eating.

The food tasted better than anything I've ever ate and as I ate the feeling of weakness that I had started disappearing little by little till it was all gone.

"You have a big appetite I see" as I finally put down my spoon she said that.

hearing her words I get embarrassed as I just started eating without saying anything, I even forget about her being there till she talked:

"T...thank you...ca..can you please tell me where I'm and what happened to m..." I tried to say, but it was then that I found that I wasn't able to remember anything about myself except my name I knew nothing.

"What's wrong" seeing me stop in the middle of my worlds she asked.

"No it's just that I can't remember anything except my name" I said and then added after looking at her:

"Do you know what happened to me"

"Sorry but I don't know anything, three days ago I found you at the foot of the forgotten mountains, you were unconscious so I broth you here and you have been unconscious since then" she said.

"forgotten mountains?" I asked and as I did I turned my head to look at the mountain range.

Even though I wasn't able to remember anything about myself I was still able to remember normal thing and no matter how much I tried to remember I wasn't able to remember a mountain range that big and with that name in earth.

When that woman saw me look at the mountains range outside while asking her that she must have mistaken what I meant as she said to me:

"Don't worry it's not as bad as it sound, even though it's one of the forbidden zones for mortals in the planet that's only because there's some low level demonic beasts there's nothing to worry about"

She seemed confident of her words and acted as if to calm me down but I didn't even know what she was talking about.

"...Can you please tell me what country does these forgotten mountains belong to" I said trying to sound normal but I know that my voice was trembling somehow.

"You can't even remember that...well anyway it's on the north of the capital of the dawn empire the strongest power on the dawn planet, bright star city"

"Dawn planet dawn empire..." I murmured those names absent mindedly.

I knew that I had never heard about those places.

As I was thinking about all of that I heard the voice of the woman say:

"hey are you alright you don't look too well, did you remember something"

Her voice returned me to my senses, and as I looked at her concerned expression I calmed down a bit.

"No I'm alright but...do you know of a place called earth where there's no demonic beasts or spiritual beast or even empires" as I said that I felt like an idiot:

'God what I'm I saying I sound like an idiot, probably this is just a sick joke bu...but what if it really isn't earth what if this place is another world' those ideas kept on circling in my head as I said that.

"Earth a place with no demonic beasts or spiritual power...well there are some places with weak demonic beast and thin spiritual power but a world with none of those... I don't think that a place like that exist" she said and then she fall to a thoughtful silence before asking me:

"Where did you hear about a planet like that" I knew that she probably had already guessed it and that there was no meaning in hiding it so I said:

"Earth is my home the planet that I came from, I don't remember anything except that my name is Emily, I lived in a place called earth and how earth is so I'm sure that there are no demonic beast there and no spiritual powers all of those are just a fantasy that we use to spend time"

The woman seemed interested in what I said, and I get why she was feeling the same as how I found it weird that there's a world with spiritual power and beasts.

"Earth...I don't think that there's a world like that in our universe" she finally said after thinking about it for a while.

"How can you be so sure" I asked her, because no matter how many things you know you can't be one hundred percent sure when it comes to the universe.

"Because there's only twenty four planet with life in the lone universe and there's no planet with the name of earth in it" she said confidently.

I wasn't convinced of what she said so I asked:

"But the universe is so big how can you be sure that there's no other planer with life"

"I'm so sure about that because there's something called the core in each universe which is exactly at the center of the universe and if someone make it to that core he or she will be able to know how big it is and how many planets with life there are in it that's why I'm sure" she said.

"...Does that mean that there's a limit for how big a the universe can be and that there are other universes" I asked her.

I didn't have that much knowledge about the universe and astronomy so I didn't know if there's an end for the universe or if there really is I wandered what lies behind it.

"You don't even know that as expected from someone from a low level planet, no that's even worst then a low level planet I think" I think that she meant her words as a joke but I felt kind of insulted.

"Anyway the end of a universe is like a wall that circle the whole universe and behind it there's nothing just darkness and void an empty space with no life it is the void that separates the universes from each other" she stopped talking here and as she saw that I was still with her she added:

"And yes there are other universes out there, take this universe for example its name is the lone universe a medium sized universe under the control of the universal tree it's number seven in term of power"

"How do you measure the power of a universe"

"It can be measured by the number of planets with life and cultivators in it"

"You said you name was Emily right" she asked me suddenly.

"Yes it is" it was then that I remembered that after all what we said she still didn't tell me here name.

"My name is Rikka Trikson, I'm the keeper of this orphanage" she said.

"Orphanage?"

"Yes you are now in my room which is in a separated house from the building where the children stay, you remember how I told you that this place is a forbidden zone for mortals"

I nodded after hearing her question, seeing that she added:

"Sometimes when mortals can no longer take care of their children they release them to in the foot of the mountain, you might find this weird but you see the mortals here think that there's some kind of spirit taking care of the children here, knowing that their children would die if they stay with them they sent them to the foot of the mountain praying that the spirit will take care of them, most of the children that get thrown out are girls between the ages of five and eight"

"So you are the spirit that the mortals talk about" I asked her while smiling.

"No it's my master I'm just trying to fill the gape while she's not here" she said with a sad tone.

"What happened to her" before I know it I asked her.

Knowing that I shouldn't have asked I said hurriedly:

"Sorry just forget wha..." I was trying to apologies but then Rikka laughed and said:

"hhhh Don't worry nothing can possible happen to her she's a monster that lived for thousands of years and not many cultivators can beat her even in the advanced universes it's just that she left a few days ago saying that she get called by a friend of hers and that she won't return for a long while"

"She's the real spirit I'm just trying to fill in the gape she put an array on the mountain that would activate each time it sense's a child on his own in the mountain it keeps them safe and sent us a signal so we go and get him or her"

"But you are still taking care of them you are a nice person for sure" I said from the bottom of my heart.

After that I talked with Rikka about a lot of things, and I get to know that the dawn planet and all the other planets with life in any universe have cultivators.

I found that great because even though I wasn't a big fan of light novels I still read some and the thought of cultivators existing was an exciting idea that even made me forget about the depression that I had because of losing my memory and finding myself in the dawn planet.
