Chapter 14: In the Library

“Donald, you’re back!”

In the hall of the fight club.

When he entered, Donald was surprised to see the two trainers putting painkiller ointment on each other, looking rather depressed. The rest of the club members also looked quite dispirited. Only Andrea came and greeted him.

“What happened? I was only away for a few days…”

Donald asked Andrea, “Someone came and challenged us?”

“No… not really…”

The smile on Andrea’s face was bitter. “It was my fault. I had a student who turned out to be a genius. He only learned to fight here for two days, but he defeated Charlie and Baron…”

In her mind, the word “genius” wasn’t even enough to describe Thulhu.

“Oh?” Donald found it interesting. “What’s his name?”

“Thulhu! Thulhu Botley!” Andrea answered.

Donald: “…”

Thulhu wondered how Donald would feel when he got back.

He had done something bad, and ran away after that. Even in his dorm, Thulhu still felt a little excited.

“Hey, Thulhu!”

Shawn was here, and he squinted his eyes and lifted an eyebrow at Thulhu. “The latest news: Molly Apple is in the library! Grab your chance, bro!”

“Really?!”

Thulhu was a bit surprised, and he dropped Shawn five coppers. “Thanks! Is there anything… um, I should know about her?”

“No, nothing. If I had to say something, it’s that her daily routine is just so repetitive. I can predict what she’s going to do next with my eyes closed…”

Shawn sighed. “I wouldn’t want a girl like that as my wife. That’d be my nightmare. But I think you two could be a match!”

“I thought I might give you an extra tip, but now it seems that I can save on that,” said Thulhu coldly.

He knew the best way to upset his roommate.

“What? Tip? Oh my… Hey bro, I’m really sorry!” Shawn’s attitude suddenly changed and he pulled on Thulhu’s arm like he was begging. “As long as you pay me five more coppers, I’ll figure out the color of Katherine’s underwear for you today!”

“What do I need that for?” Thulhu was speechless.

“Oh, sorry! I meant Molly’s!”

“I’m leaving!” Thulhu headed for the library.

He had to talk to Molly and also find some materials in the library.

“If five is too much, we can talk. Four! Three? Can’t go down further…”

Shawn was still trying to negotiate.

In the library.

Made of white marble, the library was the tallest and biggest building in the university, and looked like a huge auditorium.

Walking through the entrance and stepping on the smooth marble floor, Thulhu felt as if he had just entered a nation of giants.

He was familiar with this place, with the bookshelves, the tables and chairs, and the students studying attentively.

It had only been a few days, but Thulhu had changed from a library lover into a fighter and a fan of mysticism.

Thulhu smiled bitterly.

Since receiving the letter from Roald, his outlook on the world had completely fallen apart, and his life had completely changed.

He would start his job at Green Tree Fort in September, and the new university semester would start in August, which meant that he would have to move out of the dorms by the end of July. It was now the beginning of July, so he still had some time.

Pondering this, Thulhu walked past the bookshelves in the physics and chemistry section. He went to the second floor of the library and stopped in the religion and history section.

Before, Thulhu never had much interest in this section. Instead, he spent most of his time studying science.

However, he was now going to learn about the occult, so he had to start with studying history and religion.

Molly should also be in the library right now, but he wasn’t in a rush…

He still didn’t feel confident when he thought about the shadow he had seen that night.

Thulhu walked along the bookshelves. Pulling out a book titled “Religion Overview,” he turned to the first page. “Praise be to the almighty seven gods! May their glory light the entire world!”

The book introduced the mainstream religions of this world. The “seven gods,” or “old gods,” had gone through several twilights, but still remained on their thrones.

Among the seven gods, the Goddess of Light had the most powerful church in White Eagle Union and enjoyed the best reputation. Lots of charity events were held under her name.

According to the author of the book, the Goddess of Light, Mother Goddess, God of the Ocean, God of Fire, God of War, Goddess of Storm, and God of Knowledge were the seven true gods of the world. Any other beliefs were all heresies!

Obviously, as a religion enthusiast, the author was very extreme.

Thulhu shook his head. He skipped the lines of lavish but hollow praise, and moved on to another book called “A Study of Local Customs and Religions.”

Here were the lines from the book: “…In some barbaric, uncivilized regions, our team discovered a lot of evil and blood-filled religions… Some native tribes believe in the power of demons and hold cruel rituals to serve them. Evidence shows that they somehow did obtain some mysterious power. However, Doctor Codo believes that this was caused by a high intake of hallucinogens…”

Thulhu found the book quite interesting.

He turned the page and discovered that the chapter just stopped there. It was obvious that the author knew much more than what was written, but couldn’t publish everything he knew.

Thulhu read further. “…The barbarians of the ancient jungle tribe called Neil are cannibals. They worship death and the moon, as they believe that the moon is the lord of death. It is known that so far, none of the seven gods have yet to claim the throne which governs ‘night.’ Instead, many evil gods and false gods have claimed themselves to be representatives of the ‘moon’…”

“The moon…”

Thulhu’s heart sank. He recalled the low voice from when he had carried out the ritual –”In the name of the moon”!

It seemed that he was in trouble for sure.

Then, a helpless smile appeared on his face. His life was now like a typical American television drama: “To hide a mistake, a young kid makes an even bigger one, finally leading to a great disaster.”

Thulhu kept reading and found that the chapter once again ended here as the author moved on to introduce how some island inhabitants worshipped feathers. Thulhu couldn’t help blaming the press for editing the book so terribly.

Closing the book, Thulhu looked at the name of the author.

Sunflower Press. The author’s name was Kila Gails!

Thulhu would remember this name.

Kila Gails clearly had a deep understanding of mysticism and the occult. A new tide of extraordinary power was rising, which would make it easier for Kila Gails to find more clues.

Perhaps, Kila Gails was an extraordinary himself!

Thulhu put back the book and was surprised to see a girl.

Through the bookshelf, he saw a girl who wore glasses and had a lightly freckled face. It was Molly! Molly Apple!
