“You found clues for becoming a spirit medium on an extraordinary’s body by accident?”

In the abandoned factory.

Roald held the diamond-shaped iron piece with the ouroboros pattern on it in his hand and stared at Thulhu curiously.

“Yes. You recognize it?” asked Thulhu.

Thulhu had confirmed via the attributes panel that Roald wasn’t hostile toward him, so he was quite relaxed.

“No idea…”

Roald thought hard, but finally shook his head. “You have to know that countless groups have been popping up lately. Those notorious groups in history have probably changed their names and emblems.”

“You’re saying that those evil gods are used to changing their call names?”

Thulhu nodded. “So… What do you think of this occupation, [Spirit Medium]?”

“I’ve heard of it before. A person can communicate with spirits of the dead, drive them away, or let the spirits temporarily possess them to answer questions…”

Roald scratched his head. “But these people are very mysterious and it’s a very secret occupation. Such an occupation might not be sustainable in the long term, no matter how much power it can give you at the very beginning.”

In other words, in Roald’s eyes, becoming a spirit medium wasn’t a good choice.

Thulhu curled his lip and changed the topic. “Any clues on [Apprentice], then?”

Roald seemed a little embarrassed at Thulhu’s question. “Well… I contacted the church using our family name, and they’re happy to welcome our family back. But if you want to know more about [Apprentice], you still have to join a powerful department in the church first, or I have to complete some missions for them.”

Thulhu remembered that Roald once told him that this would be easy.

Thulhu shrugged. “I see… Obviously, you’re much more valuable to them. But I don’t want you to put yourself at risk for me!”

After all, he did feel sorry about occupying Roald’s younger brother’s body. He couldn’t ask for anything more.

“It’s not a big deal, actually…” Roald’s face softened when he looked at Thulhu. “I’m used to taking commissions from clients in our hometown, and to me, the Goddess of Light Church is simply a big, rich client who tends to give out unusual commissions from time to time. As a demon hunter, I still need money to support myself and buy supplies as well as extraordinary materials to make weapons.”

Indeed, extraordinary materials cost a lot.

Thulhu sighed. “So… I guess you accepted, right?”

“Yes, I did.”

Roald handed the iron piece back to Thulhu and said, “The church gave me a mission right away. I think it’ll be good for your training as well. So, you’re coming with me tonight!”

“What?”

Thulhu was surprised. “I’m going with you?”

“Of course,” Roald said with great confidence. “I can’t protect you all the time, so you have to know how to face danger yourself. Dawn is approaching. More and more evil creatures are waking up. Sooner or later, even those gods are going to wake up as well. You think you can hide from that?”

It was good for Thulhu to start accumulating experience right now. Currently, the evil creatures were still relatively weak.

Thulhu nodded.

Being Roald’s assistant was relatively safe and Thulhu could gain XP from it!

Once Thulhu got 200XP, he would immediately become a spirit medium. There would be no time for Roald to stop him.

Thulhu had it all planned out. At that moment, Roald threw a shotgun at him. “Catch!”

“This is…”

Thulhu carefully checked the weapon in his hands.

It was a double-barreled shotgun. The barrels were black, and the gun’s redwood grip felt smooth and heavy. The factory’s unique mark and the gun’s serial number reflected its exquisite quality.

Every man had a fancy for weapons in his heart.

Thulhu immediately fell in love with it.

“The mission tonight might be dangerous. You need to protect yourself!”

Roald then gave him some bullets. “Spend the afternoon practicing!”

“Only one afternoon?!” Thulhu’s eyes opened wide.

“You learn fast. This shouldn’t be a problem. Also, the bullets are expensive!”

Such was Roald’s explanation, but Thulhu believed that he just wanted to save on bullets.

“This is a scattergun: short range, difficult to load. However, it shoots out multiple pellets per shot in a spread. Even a kid can shoot their target if they seize the right moment!”

“Why not give me a revolver? With six cartridges, you know?” Thulhu suggested.

He didn’t have a gun license. Carrying something like this on the streets might attract crowds of onlookers.

“Sorry, tight budget!”

Roald rummaged around in his suitcase and pulled out a fine revolver. Treating the revolver like his sweetheart, Roald wiped it carefully.

The silver cylinder and the amazing patterns which gave the gun power instantly caught Thulhu’s eyes.

It was such a nice gun. Against a trained human with a gun, a low rank extraordinary could still be vulnerable, like Katherine and Alannys.

A spirit medium focused on dealing with spirits and ghosts, and basically didn’t have a greater life force or any efficient means of protecting themselves. That was why Alannys had died at the very beginning of that battle.

In comparison, a shadower could fight better and had a stronger life force, but Katherine had still been killed by a sniper in the end.

Roald was a rank two demon hunter. His body had been enhanced twice over by extraordinary power. In terms of speed, strength, and life force, Thulhu was sure that Roald was no longer a human being. He even believed that Roald would always recover from severe injuries as long as his brain and heart remained intact.

Thulhu looked Roald up and down, and wondered how many ordinary people Roald could beat up at a time.

Such an extraordinary would undoubtedly be a disaster for an ordinary government if he decided to randomly attack people.

In the end, the government would have to send in the army to solve the problem.

“Hey, what are you looking at?”

Roald was uneasy at how attentively Thulhu was staring at him.

“No- nothing!”

Thulhu grinned and changed the topic. “Right… what’s the mission about?”

He couldn’t wait to give the shotgun a try.

“An idiot was tempted by demonic power and has now been turned into a subordinate… There might also be a small summoned fiend.”

Roald shrugged his shoulders. “It isn’t a big deal. It’s the most common type of demonic creature.”
