Thulhu and Roald walked out. The cold night air refreshed their minds.

Behind them, the two-story building was back to normal.

“Our job’s done, right?”

Thulhu asked the question with some lingering fear.

“It’s hard to say. Although I did find some evidence to suggest that Garein was worshipping the demon, that was far from enough to create a rank two evil spirit. Garein’s dead now. There’s no way to know what the whole story is.”

Thulhu wasn’t going to communicate with Garein’s spirit. That would be too dangerous for him. After all, he was only a rank one spirit medium.

Roald also knew this, and he curled his lip and said, “While it might seem that we’ve eliminated the evil spirit, this place in fact might have attracted the attention of evil powers. A few years later or after a decade, horrible things will happen.”

He paused for a few seconds and stared at Thulhu. “Now… You should go back and get some sleep.”

“You?” Thulhu asked. He could sense Roald’s emotions.

“I’m going to have a nice chat with the man who assigned the mission to me,” Roald said honestly.

It might have just been an accident, but still, Roald needed an explanation. Both of them had almost died in that house.

“Then I’ll go with you…”

Thulhu was a bit excited.

After killing Garein with that shotgun, some subtle changes had taken place in Thulhu’s mind.

“No. You go back.”

There was no room for negotiation. Roald said to Thulhu, “Get a good rest and familiarize yourself with your occupation. Using extraordinary power can be dangerous.”

Thulhu knew the true reason why Roald wouldn’t let him go: when it came to fighting an ordinary person, a spirit medium could be relatively vulnerable even as an extraordinary.

He couldn’t help rolling his eyes.

According to Thulhu’s own estimates, his spiritual power might have exceeded Alannys’s!

Thulhu was a transmigrator. He came to this world with a stronger soul than most ordinary people.

However, while Thulhu believed that his Spirit Crush would be able to knock down minions, it probably wouldn’t work against an extraordinary.

Thulhu thought this, but while he felt quite confident, he didn’t dare talk back when he saw the serious look on Roald’s face.

Roald could be as stubborn as their father, whose temperament was even harder than a rock.

Finally, Thulhu sighed and said bye to Roald.

Returning to his dorm, Thulhu took a hot shower first and then put on a loose shirt and a pair of casual pants.

Sitting on the bed, Thulhu checked his arm again. The fingerprints had all disappeared.

He wondered if his spirit could be regarded as an extraordinary spirit now, as he tried to pinpoint the changes that had happened to him after he became a spirit medium.

It was really a shame that in the end, Thulhu didn’t get any XP at all from defeating the evil spirit, since Roald was the one who had killed it with his own hands.

Thulhu sighed and picked up a mirror.

He could see the change in his pupils in the mirror after he spread out his spiritual perception: There were black spots in his pupils, which looked quite eerie.

Meanwhile, the color of his surroundings all faded and objects now looked slightly transparent.

This was the world in the eyes of a spirit…?

Thulhu looked around curiously, as if he had just discovered a new continent.

The extraordinary power had brought him a series of brand new experiences.

Thulhu believed that he would be able to discover even more amazing things, for example, if he used the skill [Soul Out of Body]… the crossroad between reality and the spirit world would be visible to him!

The so-called spirit world wasn’t an isolated plane.

Its existence had to rely on this world, and parts of the two worlds overlapped with each other in peculiar ways.

There were even many layers.

“…If one could go down deep, they might find the spirit world, the abyss, or even the realm of the gods!”

Thulhu recalled Roald’s words.

However, some scholars believed that the seven gods in fact lived in the same world as humans. Their nations were located on the edge of the world, which human beings had yet to reach. Thus, many countries sent out exploration teams during the Twilight of the Gods. However, this was still extremely dangerous to do, even during a Twilight.

Thulhu sighed and was about to pull back his spiritual perception. Suddenly, to his surprise, Thulhu saw a little thing beside him.

It was a small, innocent and curious spirit which had popped out of nowhere. It looked like a little jellyfish floating in the air, and its half-transparent body was fluorescent.

“A spirit?”

Thulhu was slightly stunned for a second.

In most cases, such a spirit should only exist in the spirit world, not this world.

Perhaps it had been attracted by Thulhu’s spiritual perception.

Thulhu stretched out his palm. The little jellyfish wasn’t afraid of him, and came closer to Thulhu’s hand. It then reached out its little tentacles and put them on Thulhu’s palm.

Most spirits were in fact neutral. Thulhu was a spirit medium, so the little thing might be feeling rather friendly toward him.

These were some of the thoughts in Thulhu’s mind.

Most spirits didn’t have a sense of consciousness. Thus, they were neutral.

Once they obtained consciousness and had their own preferences, they would grow and become good spirits or evil ones.

Attracted by this world or influenced by rituals, these spirits could come to the world where human beings lived and thus cause horrible disasters.

Like Mr. Garein’s wife… Well, Thulhu didn’t know if that thing even really was his wife.

“Time to go back, little thing!” Thulhu said to the jellyfish.

When Thulhu was about to send it back, he heard some noise outside his bedroom.

So, Thulhu stood up and walked out. It was Shawn, who had just woken up.

“Hey, Thulhu…” Shawn rubbed his eyes. “I messed up the interview again. We’re going to be kicked out tomorrow, and I still haven’t found a job!”

In addition, he was devastated by the fact that Katherine was missing.

Shawn now had dark circles under his puffy eyes, which made him look rather depressed and dispirited.

Thulhu suddenly lifted his eyebrows.

He noticed that the little jellyfish-like spirit had slowly climbed onto Shawn’s head. Its tiny tentacles wriggled cheerfully.

“What is it?”

Seeing the strange look on Thulhu’s face, Shawn rubbed his face in bewilderment.

On his head, the little fluorescent jellyfish had extended several of its tentacles into Shawn’s nostrils.

“No… nothing!”

Thulhu approached Shawn and gave the little jellyfish a quick flip. Instantly, the thing was sent back to the spirit world.

“You had a little bug there,” said Thulhu. “So, what’s your plan next?”

“My plan? Well… I still have an interview tomorrow,” said Shawn gloomily. “Then I might have to go back home…”

Obviously, Shawn had been struggling recently and was suffering from a severe lack of sleep.

“Don’t give up. There’s still hope!” Thulhu encouraged him.

After making sure that the little spirit was gone, Thulhu went back to his bedroom again.

A spirit medium could easily attract spirits because of their special constitution. Dealing with a neutral, harmless spirit like this jellyfish was a piece of cake. If it had been an evil spirit, however, that would have been a huge problem.

Any extraordinary power always came at a cost!
