Chapter 56: Roald’s Trouble

Bill Abel was a successful businessman.

The union started developing steam power several years ago. Seizing the opportunity, Bill brought in a great amount of high-quality coal in advance, and thus made a great fortune out of it.

Now, as a fairly famous businessman in Niah, he was planning on buying a small coal mine.

But his visit to that bloody gallery almost ruined everything.

His body couldn’t help shaking every time he recalled what happened in that gallery.

In the face of that evil power, there was no way an ordinary person could fight back!

Fortunately, there was the Goddess of Light Church!

The church completely sealed off this gallery and the area, and performed a series of purification rituals for days. Bill could finally relax now.

He could finally forget that damn portrait.

Also, the brothers left him their address.

Returning home, he asked the butler to fetch him a good bottle of wine to relax. He took out the piece of paper with the brothers’ address on it and murmured to himself, “Maybe it’s time for me to hire some real good bodyguards…”

When he escaped the gallery the first time, he had bought a puppet which was supposedly able to take away his misfortune. It hadn’t been much help.

Because of the puppet, the cursed spirit didn’t kill him on the spot, but took him back to the gallery.

If the brothers hadn’t been there, he would have died a tragic death for sure.

The church couldn’t protect him forever, but the two brothers might…

He had to show the brothers enough courtesy from the beginning so that they would be willing to help.

As a smart businessman, he knew that the brothers could help him for sure.

He might have to depend on the brothers more than once to protect his life!

The glass of wine refreshed his spirit. Sitting in his study, Bill started thinking about buying the coal mine.

At that moment, a crazed light suddenly appeared in his eyes.

Driven by an irresistible desire in his heart, his hand, which was holding the pen, started to tremble.

He swept away all the report forms on the desk in a fierce fury, and pulled out a new sheet of paper. He started drawing.

He drew a portrait as if in a crazed frenzy. It was a portrait of a middle-aged man with goat horns and creepy eyes.

Bill then dropped the pen and bit his finger to dye the eyes with blood.

That was a portrait of the demon!

“Ahh!”

After finishing the drawing, Bill grabbed his throat with his hands in agony. Foaming at the mouth, he finally collapsed in the chair.

After a long time, he recovered. As if nothing happened, Bill tucked the portrait in between a pile of documents and then went back to his bedroom.

The real horror hadn’t been sealed off at all.

Using another creepy method, it was still spreading.

Anyone who saw the portrait would be cursed. There was no exception.

For now, neither Thulhu nor Roald was aware of this.

Seven days later.

Thulhu walked into the office of a private detective.

“Hi, anything I can do for you?”

Behind the front counter, a blond secretary greeted him.

“I’m here to see Detective Fatima Muntari. I have an appointment,” said Thulhu.

“You must be Mr. Botley. Detective Muntari is waiting for you in her office.” The secretary nodded and led him to one of the offices.

Behind a thick pile of documents sat a charming lady with red hair and who wore a pair of gold-rimmed glasses. “Hello, Mr. Botley.”

She stood up and shook hands with Thulhu. “With regards to your cases, we’ve found something.”

“Go ahead.”

Thulhu sat down and started reading the documents which Fatima handed to him.

“Mr. Botley, you charged us to look for people in two instances. For the first case, we’re sorry that we can’t help. Miss Beatrice Tyler is a most threatening criminal wanted by the union, and it seems that she’s gone west…”

Fatima said to Thulhu seriously, “She’s extremely dangerous. It is unwise for you to keep tracking her.”

In fact, this case had caused her a great deal of stress.

“What about the second case?”

Thulhu didn’t answer her directly.

“Mr. Kila Gails just completed his last expedition. He was onboard the research vessel, White Bird, which is in Posi Harbor right now. We’re not sure how long he’ll be there for; his address is in the document.”

The second case had been much easier for Fatima. After all, Mr. Kila Gails was relatively famous.

“Posi Harbor…”

Thulhu nodded thoughtfully. Posi Harbor was the largest trade harbor in the union. The place was also known for the grand memorial tower built by the Goddess of Light Church.

As Fatima said, Thulhu found the address in the document. He grinned and said, “Good job. This is the fee.”

Thulhu handed Fatima three gold dragons. “One for the first case. Two for the second.”

“At your service!”

Fatima stood up and politely walked Thulhu out.

Thulhu thought to himself that he should find Kila Gails first to obtain information on the occupation [Spirit Medium].

It was quite unexpected to Thulhu that the union still hadn’t caught Beatrice. Although it was bad to say, Thulhu hoped that the union would just kill Beatrice and save him the trouble.

With all these thoughts in mind, Thulhu went back to the shop.

Suddenly, he sensed something. On high alert, Thulhu instantly spread out his spiritual perception.

There was no one in the shop. All the shelves were on the ground. The dolls were scattered everywhere.

In front of the shop, several cops were maintaining order as the crowd milled around to watch.

What happened?!

Turning around, Thulhu saw the wall.

There were scarlet words on it: Found you!

Found who? Roald? Or Shawn?

Thulhu walked away and went to the abandoned factory.

The factory was their base. Even Shawn knew nothing about it.

As soon as Thulhu walked in, he saw Roald fully geared up. He frowned. “They’re after you, aren’t they?”

Thulhu suddenly realized that Roald had come to Niah for a reason. He hadn’t just been visiting Thulhu – instead, there had been trouble in their hometown.

When Roald first arrived, Thulhu himself had been in great trouble. Thus, Roald never explained anything to him, and Thulhu never asked.

It seemed that Roald was also in big trouble. Those people had chased him all the way here.

“It’s Black Death.”

Loading his gun, Roald answered slowly, “They believe death is the ultimate fate for everyone. In other words, they’re lunatics. Their biggest fun comes from spreading disease and plague.

“I’ve destroyed several of their branches. The magic book page that I gave you in the letter also came from their holy book, The Rite of Death.

“They worship death. The book is the most important thing to them. They’ve been chasing me all this time like hyenas. Now, they’re here.

“This is my own business. I’ll solve the problem on my own.”
