Chapter 4 - Waking Up

Uteu snapped his eyes open. A creeping sense of wrongness made his skin crawl. He could recall his dream very vividly.

"Finally! I was starting to think you'd never wake up. Tykol really knocked you out, didn't he." Said someone startlingly close to him.

Uteu turned his head to the side to stare at Grello. The man was on the bed with him, hands on Uteu's shoulders. It looked like the man had been shaking him to get him to wake up.

Briefly, Uteu noted that Grello was wearing a shorter jacket now. It had a dark charcoal color with a red hood and it was still lined with fur. It was opened, revealing a red shirt underneath. The red shirt had diamond shaped studs on the collar. Huh... He must have changed his clothes at some point while he slept.

The older man's dark brown hair was still slicked back, but seemed a bit more casual with a few strands of hair framing his face. Uteu could definitely see this man as some type of actor that women would scream their affections for.

Suddenly remembering his plans to punch Tykol, Uteu looked around the room. While he was in the same room as before, there was something clearly missing. Uteu frowned when he couldn't find his father anywhere. Narrowing his eyes, Uteu clenched his fists in anger.

"He ran for it, the coward." Grello said as he patted Uteu's right shoulder and finally detaching himself from the red head's side.

"Do you know where he went?" Uteu asked.

Grello shook his head, "He just took off in the middle of the night without mentioning where he was headed. My phone calls aren't going through either."

"... Somehow I had a feeling he would do this." Uteu admitted with a sigh. While he wouldn't have ever doubted his father before. The current Tykol rang out to him as unreliable.

Grello stared at him in amus.e.m.e.nt. The man was looking at him as if trying to figure him out. Like he was some sort of puzzle.

"After Tykol knocked you out you've been asleep for two days. With my healing you should have been able to get up within 24 hours after a bit of rest."

Uteu was relieved that he had only lost about 3-4 days. Though, he once again wondered about that warm energy and whether Grello had used something similar or not.

"You're taking this a lot better than I thought you would. I'd blame it on the drugs but that's clearly flushed out of your system by now." Grello said after crossing his arms.

Uteu exhaled and looked calmly at Grello.

"I was just stabbed by a psycho stalker and my dad's obviously hiding all kinds of things from me. I just really don't know what to think at all."

Speaking of stabs...

Uteu gingerly lifted the blankets to check his stomach. Catching onto Uteu's train of thought, Grello helped him pull it down and out of the way.

"I pumped you full of drugs the first day as I healed you. I still had to stitch up quite a few wounds after all." Grello gently explained as Uteu fiddled with the hospital gown strings by his side.

"Of course, since I was the one who worked on you, you won't have a single scar." Grello gave him a smug look as Uteu touched his smooth stomach in awe.

"Bitch stabbed me at least 6 times... This is just... Wow. Ummm... Thank you? This is amazing work." Uteu has no idea what Grello did to him to heal him, but felt he could at least give his gratitude for it.

This man looked nothing like a doctor and Uteu had the suspicion that he'd never find a certificate on him to verify that he was allowed to perform on other people. However, Uteu felt grateful regardless. He had thought he'd die from those stab wounds. This was even better than he could have hoped for.

Grello somehow looked even more smug. Uteu felt his eye twitch. Why was it that the longer he saw the prideful smugness on Grello's face, the more he wanted to hit him?

He took a breath and reminded himself that this guy saved his life. Punching him was without a doubt, a bad idea.

"Anyways, there is a reason why I woke you up now instead of letting you wake up normally." Grello said, suddenly serious.

Uteu straightened and sat up. Grello went around the room pulling out what looked like clothes for Uteu to wear.

"I do have a whole lot of questions..."

Grello's lips thinned and his hands paused.

"But I'll save most of them for my dad."

Uteu watched as Grello relaxed from his words.

"I really can't be sure how serious the situation is. But seeing as how you have zero training or even any idea as to what to do..." He said, passing Uteu his clothes. Uteu noticed they were his own clothes, probably pulled out of his apartment.

Grello's eyebrows furrowed in annoyance and grumbled in a low voice, "Not to mention, that idiot, Tykol running off without bothering to explain anything to you..." Uteu almost didn't catch the last few words.

The man grumbled a few more things Uteu couldn't really make out before continuing, "Unfortunately, it seems some brainless morons thought it'd be interesting to evaluate the Chain and you, the Chained One."

Uteu blinked. Still not quite understanding. Was this man giving him hints? Was he supposed to know what he was talking about?

"And if you're wondering why I'm still here... It seems you quite like me if you decided to let me be one of your Links. I accept by the way. Quite flattered to be your first." Grello gave him another smile and posed a bit, sticking his hands into his jacket pockets and wagging his eyebrows.

Uteu kept staring at Grello. Why was it that the more this man talks the less he understands?
