Chapter 5 - Jackpot

Grello let out a hearty laugh at the look on Uteu's face.

"Ok, I didn't mean to tease."

Uteu glared at Grello.

"You must have latched onto me while I was healing you. I believe you... at least subconsciously, were afraid of dying and chose the person saving your life."

Grello turned around and waited as Uteu got dressed.

"Tykol was offended he wasn't a Link even though he was the one that took down the girl." Uteu could practically feel the c.o.c.kiness off Grello. Actually that explained the blurry red flash Uteu saw at the end before he blacked out. So it was his father.

Grello paused as if in thought, "Oh, speaking of her, she's in an actual hospital room. Will probably be in a coma for a while after all that damage done to her mind."

Uteu had finished getting dressed at this point and paused lacing his shoe after hearing the next few words.

"In case you were wondering or were worried she'd come after you again." He looked carefully at Uteu to evaluate his thoughts on the girl.

Uteu looked back down and finished tying his shoe laces.

"Good. I don't care if she was mind controlled or whatever the f.u.c.k. She sounds scary as hell. Glad she can't get close to me or my siblings now."

Uteu shivered slightly and suddenly felt arms around him.

"Even though you're ok with me~? I'm not scary to you?"

Uteu kicked out at Grello as he backed off laughing. Uteu gave Grello a very bland stare. This guy really loves to joke around and redirect the conversation.

Suddenly realizing something off about the man's wording Uteu asked, "Wait, what do you mean by actual hospital?"

"She's at... what was that hospital called again? Holten Hospital? You know, the local one. You didn't really think we'd take you to a place that public?"

If it was Holten Hospital it meant they were still in the city his apartment was in. It was somewhat relieving to hear he wasn't taken that far away.

Uteu watched as Grello walked over to the door and twisting the knob.

Grello smirked, "This is one of the rooms in my home." Then he opened the door, revealing a spacious hall to what Uteu thought lead to a living room.

Uteu let the words sink in. Somehow that was not too surprising. Grello looked a little disappointed that Uteu didn't make any comments.

"As for me being your Link. It seems any buffs or spells I use on you will be doubled in effectiveness. I'd say it's the only reason you're awake now. Instead of say a week of a healing coma."

Now that, Uteu was surprised about. He followed Grello when the man gestured at him and began walking out into the hall.

Grello shrugged, "I'll be honest here, I can't say I know all that much about this. I studied all I could about this subject, don't you dare doubt that. It's just that, not many people know about Chained Ones other than from books and rumors. After becoming your Link.. it's a bit difficult to describe. I'm really not sure if it was even legit seeing as how you were unconscious."

They walked a fair way down the hall when a door to their left slowly opened. Someone came out and bowed towards the two of them.

Uteu stopped walking when a blonde woman dressed in a French maid outfit stopped in front of him with three books of different sizes and textures.

"Ah, thank you my dear Anyi. But he won't be needing these books just yet. Could you bring them to his room?" Grello said as he lovingly stroked the top of the woman's hair.

Uteu tilted his head, pondering on the words. Was there a prepared room for him somewhere here?

The woman bowed once again toward Grello and walked off without sparing Uteu a glance in passing. A watched her figure disappear behind another door.

"We can get a maid to show you around later. There's quite a lot of places here you'll need to know about." Uteu nodded at Grello's words.

Another woman, a few years older looking than the blonde, briskly and elegantly walked towards them from the same door the other maid had just vanished into. Her skirt was a bit longer with slits on both sides giving her a more m.a.t.u.r.e look.

"Ah yes, I was just about to call for you Lia, thank you for always doing such a great job cleaning up." Grello called out to her as she neared.

"When you're finished, be sure to show Uteu here around the house."

The woman, Uteu noted her glasses and light brown hair, only glanced at Grello in acknowledgment before going into the room the two had just left. She shut the door behind her.

"She's my head maid. No one can keep this house in better order than her." Grello said proudly.

He then folded his arms and put a finger on his cheek in thought. "You'll get to know them all eventually."

"Ah right and those books, they're all I have in regards to Chained One and Link. Not sure how much they'll help but they're yours now. You can read them when we get back."

Uteu nodded his thanks.

They continued walking till they were out of the house entirely. Uteu wished he could have taken a closer look at all the books and fine paintings and decorations in that spacious house...

House ... Seemed more like a mansion actually. And he supposed, if Grello really had a room for him-

"You'll be living with me until that idiot shows himself again, or until you want to leave I suppose. Since I'm your Link I have a duty to protect you now."

Uteu was pleased. Grello was honestly the only person he could turn to right now. It was nice to have someone somewhat reliable on his side.

Grello quirked an eyebrow as if expecting Uteu to be upset or complain. Which then caused Uteu to suddenly remember-

"My siblings-"

"Ulo and Uti? Ah right I should have let you see them while we were inside. Well whoops."

"They're here!?" Uteu couldn't help but raise his voice in his surprise.

"Tykol conveniently forgot to take them with him." Grello spat out.

Uteu rubbed the back of his neck and shifted his feet. He was starting to feel really bad for Grello. Seemed like Tykol just dumped most of his responsibilities onto Grello instead.

"I, out of the goodness of my heart, thought you'd love it if I brought them under my protection as well." Grello said as closed his eyes and posed with a hand over his heart.

Uteu shifted, he felt super bad. He didn't know what this man's connection to his family was but he was really glad he had him.

"I can't thank you enough, Grello." Uteu said, honestly.

Grello opened his eyes to stare at Uteu.

"Hmm."

Grello gave him the cheekiest smile he'd ever seen and said, "Honestly you hit the jackpot choosing me as your Link, wouldn't you say?"
