Unloved: The Abandoned Beauty

Chapter 18 - 18: Abnormality

During the past 3 years, there had been many items that washed ashore.

There was something abnormal about it.

All the items which washed ashore were coincidentally useful or entertaining in one way or another.

She received clothing, tools and even novelty items like rubber ducks and Lego blocks???

With all the strange things washing up, she found it very peculiar that only a small portion of rubbish would wash up. It was a rare occurrence.

In fact, she was surprised that the ocean surrounding the island was still so unpolluted.

Especially with the world's rapid increase in one-use plastics and the wasteful habits of many living in high-income countries. However, she was glad they washed up.

...

Today, Colette would be making coconut milk!

She went round her little hut to look for clothes which she could not wear, a few containers and her little pot. She placed all the items except the pot into her sturdy bag, woven from coconut leaves.

Colette leisurely made her way to the coconut tree grove, which was on the east side of the island.

She woke up especially early today to make coconut milk, well... more like the last time she cooked up the shellfish it was lacking the creaminess of coconut milk.

Colette was beginning to crave it too.

Colette picked up the coconut which had a little stem coming and knocked on it and sure enough there was a solid sound!

'Great, I can have a snack as I make the milk!' Colette unconsciously liked her pink lips.

She continued to collect a few more coconuts, careful to not take too many at once.

Like anything else, there was a limited supply.

If she took everything in greed, there would be nothing left for next time and for the chimps. It would also be a waste if they spoiled after her hard work to turn them into milk.

After gathering three more coconuts she sat down near a tree and took out the knife she always carried and started peeling away the outer layers of all the coconuts and put them aside. She would later dry it into a husk and strip the fibres to make coir, to use it as a fire source, right now, it was still too moist.

In her first life she had no idea that sprouted coconuts were edible, let alone contain so much coconut meat.

But she learned it from various Youtube videos, as she reminisced her time on the island by stumbling upon videos relating to survival in the wilderness. .

It eventually became her pastime after work.

...

After several hours of toiling she finally had 3 jars worth of coconut milk!
