Voyage To The Past

The discussion about what they should react to this unexpected event in their life take a relatively long time. Some of them think they should not involve with this war, some other staff thinks they can't evade their involvement in this war. They are debating for a quite long time which makes captain Ichiro almost losing his patience. With a slam on the table, he interrupts the debate between the chief and staff there.

"Gentlemen, for you that don't want to involve in war, please say your reason"

"Sir, we are JMSDF, not trained to do war but to keep the peace. By involving in the war, we breaking the idea of FMSDF establishment"

One of the staff said his opinion. Captain Ichiro nodded as he hears what the staff said

"That's correct. JSDF indeed make to protect the peace of Japan, but gentlemen, you should also consider we are not in our era right now. We are in the time when JSDF have not established yet"

"Sir, then what we should do?"

"Let me point the problem we facing now. First, we have limited fuel and logistic, we can't keep sailing without additional logistic. Second, our ship technology will become the important thing to turn the tide of war. We have advanced radar, advanced engine, advanced weapon system, and historical knowledge that saved in our archives room. Any country that held our ship and develops the technology from our ship will become important and dominant country post-war. Third, we don't know whether we can return to our time or not. While we search our way back to our time, we need a place to stay, without losing our freedom and ideal. And the last thing, this is my personal wish, I want to prevent the greatest humanitarian disaster before happened in Japan"

All chief and staff silenced when hearing what captain Ichiro said. After a moment, one staff raises his hand and asking

"Sir, the last part from your words, is that atomic bomb?"

"Yes, that's correct. I don't know how long we will stay in this era, but until we can return to our time, I want to prevent the atomic bomb explosion in Hiroshima and Nagasaki"

"Sir, do you have a plan to do that?"

"Hmm….if we can make Japan and America have the peace agreement to end this war before they drop the atomic bomb, that would be great"

"And how we make Japan and America end this war, Sir?"

"Well, I assume you all already learn about Japan history right? How much do you know about Pacific war from history class? Especially battle of Midway"

The staffs are looking at each other. History class is always the unpopular subject at school, most students think that history is boring and seldom pay attention to the subject. Thus, history is easy to forget some years after graduating from school.

"As far as I know, it's our turning point in the Pacific war, Sir. After the attack to Pearl Harbor and the battle at Coral Sea, Japan Imperial Navy face their first defeat and lost too much in the battle of Midway. Japan lost 4 aircraft carriers ship, many aircraft, and veteran pilot and after that keep losing the battle"

"Yes, but how Japan lost this 4 aircraft carriers ship, did anyone know the detail?"

The staff silenced again. Although they know the general knowledge about World War II, they don't remember much about the detail.

"Sir, my subordinate, Sergeant Aso from the logistic division is a fan of world war. Can I call him here to explain the detail about the Battle of Midway?"

Lieutenant Kosuke, Chief from logistic division raise his hand.

"Sure, call him right away. We don't have much time"

Not waiting for a long time, sergeant Aso already called and arrived in the strategic room. he looks nervous for being called in such important meeting despite his rank in the ship.

"Captain sir, do you need me?"

"Yes, sergeant Aso, I hear you are a hardcore fan of world war item?"

"Yes, sir. But is that related to me called here?"

"Yes, we need your knowledge about world war II especially about the Battle of Midway. Can you tell us why we lost at the Battle of Midway?"

"Yes, Sir. There are several factors that make we lost at the Battle of Midway, sir. First, America already breaks our code and able to predict our attack at midway. What supposed to be surprised attack turn into America ambush our fleet. Second, our attack at midway fail because their airplane already airborne and waiting for our plane in the midway skies, our attack in their airfield did not give much impact because of their base already empty. Third, our fleet already spotted by their scout plane when deploying first wave attack, their bomber managed to sink our aircraft carrier because we did not attack their aircraft carrier first which located in the northeast from Midway Island. Forth, the second fleet commanded by Admiral Yamamoto is way far behind the first fleet to give support. When the second fleet arrives near midway, the battle already over and they did not have a chance to participate in the battle. That's in short sir"

"Hmm…sergeant Aso, if we don't lose our aircraft carrier in the Battle of Midway, do you think we can have the chance to win the war?"

"Battle of Midway is initiative from Admiral Yamamoto to end the war quickly sir. This operation has codename operation MI, if succeed, Japan can have strategic access to threaten Hawaii and American west coast. If we have this strategic place, maybe peace talk can be made at that time sir, but in fact, we lost at the battle of midway and never have a chance to occupy this island"

Captain Ichiro thinking a while after hearing what sergeant Aso said. He thinking the best way to prevent the Japan navy from lost the war without sacrificing his ship and crews. After considering many things, finally, he made a decision.

"Gentlemen, I have thinking about the best way to deal with our problem without sacrificing our crew and ship into this war. To achieve that, we must prove our value for Japan Imperial Navy so they can't force us to do something without our consent. I already have a plan to make us have bargain power in front of Japan Navy. I hope my decision is the right decision I made in this uncertain time and place"

All the staff and chief in the strategic room are waiting in anxious about the decision that captain Ichiro has made. They wonder what kind of plan that their captain have for their situation.
