Voyage To The Past

Captain Ichiro takes a deep breath before he said what he had in mind.

"Gentlemen, let's start by informing Japan Navy first about their code being broken and American already waiting to ambush them near Midway. After that, we wait for their reaction about that information. We will act cautiously because this action will determine our survival at this time"

"Yes, Sir!"

"Then this strategic meeting is done. Return to the bridge and get prepared for whatever will happen next. Sergeant Aso, you don't have to return at your post, I need your expertise in second world war history to make the decision"

The chief and staff leave the strategic room and return to their respective posts. Captain Ichiro approaching to staff in communication section and order him to send radio messages to Japan fleet

"Send this message to Admiral Nagumo in aircraft carrier Akagi. The content of the message is : The code is broken by the US. Operation MI is no longer surprised attack. Advice to abort the attack on Midway and attack enemy mobile unit in northeast Midway instead. Sign, Captain Ichiro from JS 144 Kurama"

"Aye aye Sir"

The communication crew send the message as captain Ichiro ordered to him

"It's done, sir"

"Good. Now send another message. This time send to Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto on battleship Yamato. The content of the message is : Operation MI is about to fail. US side already has broken the code. Without the support of the second fleet, the attacking fleet under Admiral Nagumo surely defeated. Sign, Captain Ichiro from JS 144 Kurama"

"Yes, sir!"

"If they send a reply, inform me immediately"

"Aye sir"

The communication crew sends the message as captain Ichiro ask. After the message send, captain Ichiro leaves communication section and return to his chair. Vice-captain Lt. Colonel Yusuke can't hold his curiosity about what the next plan his captain has in mind

"Sir, what will we do if they not respond to our message?"

"Hmm…then we have to engage in battle. We should prevent the sinking of Japan aircraft carrier and lose of many veteran pilots in that ship to make Japan have a chance for a peace agreement with America"

"How long we will wait for their response, sir?"

Hmm…let's wait for one hour. If they do not send any response, we change our course and follow the first fleet course"

"I understand, sir, I hope we don't have to engage in battle directly"

"I hope so, Yusuke. Now, all we can do is waiting. Oh right, sergeant Aso, can you tell me how Battle of Midway starting?"

"Yes, Sir. It starts on June 3, 09.00 when a PBY plane from U.S. Navy patrol squadron VP-44 spotted the Japanese Force 580 miles to the west-southwest of Midway. Nine B-17s took off from Midway at 12:30 for the first air attack. Three hours later, they found Japan transport group 660 miles to the west and start attacking. Captain Ichiro thinking a while before giving another order to his staff

Admiral Nagumo is watching the map in front of him and make calculation when a staff come and reporting to him

"Sir, we receive encoded radio message for you, Sir"

"Huh? Aren't we doing silent communication blocking to make U.S Force don't know our movement? Who send that message?"

"Unknown ship sir, and this is their message"

The staff handed the message paper to Admiral Nagumo. Nagumo accepts the paper and starts to read what written in that paper. He frowns his brow after reading the message.

"Staff Genda, read this and tell me your opinion"

Admiral Nagumo handed the paper to his trusted aide, Captain Minoru Genda. Genda accepts the paper and reads the words inside. And like Nagumo, he also frowned after reading the message

"Sir, could it be, this is trick used by U.S Forces? But if what written here is true, we will be in great danger and this mission will destine to be failed"

"That's possible. We've been succeeding in our previous battle against U.S forces, whether in Pearl Harbor or in the Coral Sea. But if we failed here, the chance to win this war become thinner"

"Should we fly surveillance aircraft to the place mentioned in the message, Sir? We still have a half day to confirm this information"

"Hmm…but if that's true and they also notice our presence here, can we stand against their attack? We only have five cruiser ship and five destroyer ship with us. "We're still in silent communication blocking. If this message is fake, I'll become a laughing stock in the headquarter later. Moreover, the sender, did we have a ship with name Kurama? With the captain is Colonel Ichiro?"

"As far as I know, we didn't have the ship with that name sir"

Admiral Nagumo seems can't give fast decision over this matter. his indecisiveness and over-cautious behavior is something that lacks from him. Like in the previous attack on Pearl Harbor, if Nagumo sends third wave attack, U.S forces surely will receive more damage and will not recover this fast.
