Who Said A Mosquito Can't Cultivate?

Chapter 15 - Fighting is Sometimes Fun

Buzz...

It has been a few minutes since I've finished s.u.c.k.i.n.g the blood off that bear I killed. Currently, I'm flying over the inner depths of the forest with the hopes of finding a lone bear again. Why? Of course, the reason behind it being that a single bear is not enough to satiate my blood point needs. Well...the system's blood point needs. My needs are only the following: taste blood. That's it. It's very weird coming from a human in his previous life, but trust me. Once you go suck, you can never uh...what rhymes with suck and means go back?

Anyways, not only that, that bear was the only animal to have me leave feeling satisfied after s.u.c.k.i.n.g. It made me feel like I've progressed a lot, but I knew for a fact that I've only upgraded my Second Blood Storage twice. Nonetheless, the illusion was there.

Also, s.u.c.k.i.n.g the bear's blood gave me a constitution increase of 0.1, the same amount as the constitution skill coming from the horse. Although it made more sense for the bear to have a greater constitution than the horse and therefore give more constitution, I could care less. An increase is still an increase. But there was one thing that perplexed me quite a bit.

How have I not awakened yet?

Don't get me wrong, I know that the system has its own requirements as to when I'd awaken for a second time, and I should've asked the system first for the requirements, but still. Listen to me and my hypothesis for a bit.

So, if I could remember correctly, the first time I awakened to this my current bloodline, the Dark Raiment Mosquito bloodline, is when I reached a Constitution stat of 0.25. After awakening once, I hypothesized that I would awaken once my Constitution stat had reached a value twice the amount needed to awaken the first time, which was 0.50.

Now here comes the weird part. System, show me my Constitution stat.

Ding!

________

Constitution: 0.52

________

Before s.u.c.k.i.n.g the blood out of that bear, I would've been at a Constitution stat of 0.42, which does not trigger the hypothetical requirement in my head. But now that I've reached a Constitution stat of 0.52, which surpasses the hypothetical requirement in my head, how have I not awakened a second time yet?

...

You know what? Let me just ask the system.

"How high should my Constitution stat be to awaken for a second time?" I asked in my mind as I continued to buzz around the forest, finding that sole bear I wanted to suck blood from.

Ding!

Not long after asking that question, the system replied in my mind with its monotonous voice, as a holographic screen with four numbers contained in it concurrently appeared in front of my screen.

'The Constitution stat needed for the user's body to awaken a second time is 0.625.'

...

...

What a retarded number to choose. No...wait...now that I think about it a bit more...it makes sense. The reason why the system made a Constitution stat of 0.625 as the requirement to awaken a second time is because...

I've awakened for the first time, advancing to the 1st evolution tier with a Constitution stat of 0.25. Now, the Constitution stat needed for me to unlock cultivation is 1. Now, 1 minus 0.25 is 0.75, thrice the amount of 0.25.

But now...what if you divided 0.75 into two? Well, you get 0.375. Add it to the first requirement, which is 0.25, you get 0.625. In other words, the requirement needed for me to awaken a second time. Or...you could just multiply 0.25 by 2.5, that would also result in 0.625.

With the system telling me that Constitution is a sum of all my stats, then it must have not factored in my intelligence because I'm very sure most people won't do all that math like I did. Anyways, moving on.

It has been over ten minutes since I've started wondering about the Constitution requirement, but I still haven't seen a single bear. Well, to be more exact, a bear that's alone. I've seen multiple groups of bears while flying above the forest, but as I've said, I won't risk it. I won't risk it...unless I have enough strength to either be on equal level with them or suppress them. Knowing very well that bears are stronger than humans in terms of strength, they probably have a Constitution stat of 1.2? 1.5? I don't know, and I won't bother knowing.

Since I haven't seen any bear moving around the forest alone, I guess I'll have to give up for now and decide on another animal to suck blood from. Of course, the only common animal left in the recesses of my mind, and the most logical one at that, is our friendly neighborhood wolf.

Although I've seen multiple groups of bears congregated together, which is weird since I knew very well that they're a solitary animal in my previous life, the opposite goes for wolves. What I mean by that is, these wolves move alone more often than travel in groups, which is not the same case in my previous life. No, wait, they definitely moved alone back in my previous life, but they chose not to probably. Then again, they are social animals. If not, how did we domesticate them into dogs in my previous life?

Whoosh! Buzz...

With the fact that these wolves mostly moved alone in this world, it wasn't odd for me to easily find a lone wolf moving around, searching for prey to eat here and there. I dove down from where I flew, hastily flying towards a wolf I saw that was not far away from where I was flying.

Whoosh! Whoosh!

Since I now know that killing them before s.u.c.k.i.n.g their blood is better than s.u.c.k.i.n.g their blood in the first place, it wouldn't be weird for me to dive down with Sharp Needle+ activated, right?

Well... that's what I did, knowing very well that I would be aiming for this wolf's eyes again. Do I have a fetish for poking eyes out? No, no, I don't. I just poke them because it's the easiest way to incapacitate them, that's all. Yeah, that's all.

But then, before I did fly down to the wolf's eye level, I stopped at a height where the canopies of trees were easily seen, as a thought in my mind screamed out that it might be dangerous to attack this wolf like how I attacked the previous two animals I killed. Well, I could do that, but there was this nagging feeling that I'd end up dead if I did it.

As I continued to think about it, I remembered that I obtained a Bloodl.u.s.t Point from killing that bear, prompting me to open up the Bloodl.u.s.t Skill system.

Ding!

Of course, I knew the questions that the system was going to ask, so I answered the first question with the hopes of wanting to upgrade offensive type skills. But then, when the question about which type of offensive skill I was going to upgrade popped up, I was now at a crossroads.

While pondering as to what type I was going to upgrade, a gut feeling from my mosquito body wanted me to pick Poison type skills this time. It told me that it would give me a greater chance of winning against such a beast, even if it was one evolution tier below me. Then again, it has a bigger body.

I thought about it for a bit and came to the conclusion that Melee type skills are quite important for me, but as a mosquito, how could I not pick up some Poison type skills?

And so, I chose it.

Ding!

The layout was the same as the one for the Melee type skills, the only difference being the fact that no skill was unlocked at all. I had to unlock one before I could use one.

________

Quick Poison:

Level 0:

Paralysis Imbuement (?/?) - 1 point to unlock

--------

Slow Poison:

Level 0:

Deterioration Imbuement (?/?) - 1 point to unlock

________

I looked at the two available skills in front of me and opened up their descriptions, wondering what their advantages were over the other one. After a few minutes of pondering while watching the wolf at the side, making sure that it did not move far away from I could see it, I decided to unlock Paralysis Imbuement.

Deterioration Imbuement is a poison that remains dormant for a few days before gradually rotting your muscles in a span of an hour, which is a really great way to get back at people, to be honest.

Nonetheless, I don't have the patience to wait for a few days and wait for the wolf's muscles to deteriorate. If I did, I wouldn't even be here, s.u.c.k.i.n.g tons of blood on my second day of being in this world. Speaking of second day, it was now afternoon.

Ding!

'1 Bloodl.u.s.t Point has been consumed.'

'Paralysis Imbuement has been unlocked.'

Well then, with that unlocked, it's time to attack thjs wolf I've been eyeing on!

Buzz...

Sharp Needle+

And...Paralysis Imbuement!

Whoosh!

While my proboscis was being covered in viscous dark energy, it was then overlapped by a thin layer of yellow energy that resembled lightning. To be honest, it kinda looks like a black spear that's imbued with lightning, which is pretty cool if you'd asked me.

Whoosh!

With my black spear of lightning ready, I dove down from where I was and headed straight for the wolf's...neck!

You thought I'd be poking its eyes again, but that wouldn't be effective in terms of paralyzing the wolf.

Poke!

At the very instant I poked my proboscis on the wolf's back, the wolf shuddered a bit, then stopped moving, as if it was a lifelike statue. Well...if it wasn't for its eyes frantically moving around in panic, then I might've believed it if I was just seeing this wolf for the first time.

Of course, with the wolf paralyzed, temporarily anyway, I made my way towards the wolf's throat, which was on the other side of the wolf's neck. I injected the paralysis thingy through its spinal nerves.

Buzz...

I made sure to fly behind the wolf's face since it would definitely be angry at me if the paralysis wore off. It only took me a few seconds to head towards the wolf's neck, but that was enough for the wolf to break free from the paralysis.

Oh no, you don't!

Sharp Needle+!

Paralysis Imbuement!

Poke!

Just as it was about to run away from where it stood frozen, I poked it on its throat and injected some paralysis fluid again. And then...mayhem ensued.

Poke! Poke! Poke!

Just like before with the bear, I continued to poke holes through the wolf's throat, knowing fully well that I don't have enough strength to poke through its skull. Of course, I still had Paralysis Imbuement activated while doing this.

Eventually though, after 5 or so pokes, the wolf's eyes, which were my only signs for it being alive, stopped moving as its heart had stopped moving for quite a long time. So...it died because of the paralysis...not because it couldn't breathe.

Ding!

Either way, I killed it. Time to reap the rewards!

'You have successfully killed a Wolf!'

'You have obtained a Bloodl.u.s.t Point.'

'You have obtained 52 points of Impure Blood Energy from killing this creature.'

'With the wolf's aura surrounding your body, you have unlocked [Wolf's Might].'

'[Wolf's Might] (0/10) -> (3/10)'

'Constitution +0.021'

And with that, time to suck its bloo—huh. I didn't notice a black wolf get close to this wolf corpse. Is it possibly eyeing my dead blood bank?

Well then. I won't let you have your way at it, if that's the case.
