Who Said A Mosquito Can't Cultivate?

Chapter 32 - The First Step

As I asked myself this question, I could not help but sneak glances at Jeff, who was crying his eyes out due to the immense joy he felt after knowing that his chimera, Jeffrey, was still alive.

So…how am I going to go about breaking the news to him? How I am going to tell him that I cut Jeffrey into two gruesome parts, and that there might be no chance for Jeffrey to revive ever?

Haah…you know what? I'll just be straightforward in this matter.

While Jeff was still crying with glee, I grabbed his attention as I spoke, "Hey Jeff…it looks like there's still one more question in my mind?"

"Ah, sure. Go ahead and ask away," Jeff replied in a rational manner, but he still continued to cry…weird man. I guess he's probably reminiscing all the times he spent with Jeffrey, before dying and leaving this inheritance with only a remnant soul of himself. Wait…are remnant souls and the original person…the same person? Oh well, I won't look into it any further than that.

"Uh…" I delayed my question, thinking of the best way to break this news to him, only to let out a sigh as I decided to follow what I said to myself before. "Did you know that Jeffrey is already dead since he was the key I used to enter the inheritance?"

"Yeah, I do," Jeff replied with a smile on his face. This time, he stopped crying, wiping his tears away as he looked at me. "There's a module in the rock cube you used to enter that always revives Jeffrey's body. I was just surprised that he was still alive even after 3,000 years."

Three-

Wow, this inheritance must be older than I thought. Not only that, the same goes for the war. How long does this guy hold a grudge?

"Sure, his revival was delayed since you entered the inheritance," Jeff said as a continuation, moving his hands and fingers in an intricate manner as a ball of silver strands started to coalesce and form a screen. In this screen was the sight of Jeffrey, who was standing like before. Well then, my plans have changed one more time. I'm definitely going to upgrade my physique before reaching a Constitution stat of 1.

"But as you can see, he's alive and kicking." Jeff looked at me and beamed. A few seconds later, this smile was replaced with a sigh as he muttered, "Then again, it's quite disappointing that his strength has devolved to Rank 3. Back then, he used to be a chimera of Rank 10, even having a cultivation of the sixth realm! Man, how I wish Jeffrey was still like before."

Wait a second…Rank 10? If I remember correctly, Jeff said that I was a Rank 3 Mosquito, which meant that a Rank 1 animal is an animal that hasn't awakened their bloodline. So…you're telling me that this chimera I s.u.c.k.e.d to enter the inheritance was actually a being that awakened its bloodline nine times?! And even had a cultivation level of the sixth realm?! Now I'm mad! How much blood would I have gotten from such a being like that? Oi, revert back to your previous self!

As I continued to complain in my mind, in the end, I just let out a sigh as I had no control over such things. In fact, I should be grateful that this chimera was still someone that had reached the second evolution tier…or Rank 3, I'll probably use the former more. What if the chimera was already dead? Then, wouldn't that mean that this inheritance wouldn't be unlocked, only left to rot through the vicissitudes of time?

And with that, I stopped thinking about what ifs, and just decided to think of what to do next.

"Now that I think about it," I started to open my mind, catching Jeff's attention. "Why do you want the Forbidden Chimera Sect to be revived?"

Surely, there was a greater reason to this goal, right?

"Hmm…" Jeff pondered over the question for a bit, only to reply with, "Well…why not?"

If I were human, I'd be beating the shit out of you already. You better be f.u.c.k.i.n.g grateful.

Composing myself, I continued to ask, "W-Well…are there any other reasons to it?"

"Any other reasons…" This time, Jeff mulled over it even longer than before, finally giving a satisfactory answer around 20 seconds later.

"Well, the Forbidden Chimera Sect back in its heyday was a Grand level sect. Being in a sect that was at the Grand level was basically something you could brag about in multiple kingdoms, having many kings and emperors bow in front of you! And that's just for the outer disciples of a Grand level sect! If you were an inner disciple, or even had a higher status, tons of women wouldn't even hesitate to…" By the end of his answer, Jeff could not help but blush, probably remembering those kind of memories. To be honest, I couldn't help but be enticed as well. Of course, I wasn't enticed by the women, but the authority.

Why? Shouldn't a legendary mosquito immortal have tons of power and authority?

After reminiscing through all of the lascivious thoughts in his mind, Jeff finally went back to reality, looking at me with a slightly serious gaze.

"Alright, I've said everything you need to know about the ultimate goals of the inheritance. Now, I'm gonna give you the first goals you have to accomplish," Jeff said in a calm yet m.a.t.u.r.e manner.

"I'm all ears," I replied. Wait…I only have antennae.

"Okay." Jeff nodded. Soon after, Jeff made a grabbing motion out in the air, with a thin silver book manifesting not long after in his hand. He then threw this silver book at me, forcing my reflexes to unconsciously dodge this book.

"Don't dodge it, it'll dissolve before it even hits you." Seeing what I was about to do, Jeff said this at the very last moment. Well, too bad, my reflexes are too strong.

Whoosh!

Nonetheless, even though I dodged the silver book's trajectory, before it could even reach where I previously was hovering, the silver book did dissolve into multiple motes of silver light, heading towards where I currently was.

Swoosh! Swoosh!

For a while, it looked like I was a glowing silver mosquito, like some sort of incredibly rare monster you'd get from a game. Anyways, these silver motes of light were gradually absorbed by my body, which then made their way to where my mosquito brain was.

Ding!

'You have obtained the martial technique [Lesser Feline Transformation].'

"Eh?" Hearing this notification in my mind, I could not help but say out loud. "Lesser Feline Transformation? What's this about?"

"This technique is related to your first goal," Jeff replied to my question. "Your first goal is to become a guardian beast of a former subsidiary sect of the Forbidden Chimera Sect. This sect is known as the Fleeting Blade Sect."

A guardian beast, eh? Well, it does make sense for Jeff to give me such a skill. If a sect had a mosquito as a guardian beast, the people would probably be laughing their asses out. With this, at least a sect could redeem most of their reputation.

"Well…" Hearing what Jeff said, I could not help but go through the manual, only to see that I was barred by the system from even reading it. "Are there any requirements before I can cultivate this technique?"

"You need to reach the peak of Qi Acc.u.mulation realm to activate it, which is coincidentally your second goal," Jeff replied as he could not help but examine me more closely.

"Seriously though. As a Rank 3 Mosquito, why haven't you started cultivating ye-" As he asked this question, Jeff became speechless before he could finish his question, as if he was a chicken waiting to be slaughtered.

"Qi! You have qi inside you!" Jeff could not help but exclaim. Well then. It seems Jeff had discovered the existence of qi inside my first dantian.

"Wait a second, you have qi inside you, but I don't sense any sort of cultivation emanating from you," Jeff peered into it a bit further, formulating a question not long after.

"You have qi inside you, but why aren't you starting to cultivate yet?"

"Uhh…" Of course, I can't talk about the system and how it needs me to reach a Constitution stat of 1 before I could start cultivating. I'm not that stupid, plus I don't even know the guy that much. I'll just explain my circ.u.mstances without talking about the system.

"I uh…I can't cultivate yet because my body needs to be a bit stronger than it is right now," I replied with a bit of hesitation.

"Hmm…?" Hearing my answer, Jeff could not help but squint as he examined me more closely. A few seconds later, Jeff nodded with an indifferent expression on his face. Phew, that was close.

"Well, it does make sense from a human standpoint. Some people are born with a weak constitution, hence they need to start cultivating their bodies first before cultivating qi," Jeff said. "Speaking of which, I'll talk about body cultivation."

Body cultivation? I haven't really encountered this before in the web novels I've read.

"Think about body cultivation as the soldier, while qi cultivation is the commander. If you only cultivate qi cultivation, sure, you can show great combat power, but the force behind it wouldn't be enough," Jeff started to explain.

"The same goes for just cultivating the body. You have a lot of force, but your combat power would be lacking compared to those that have cultivated their qi."

"In other words, cultivating only qi is akin to a child wielding a gatling gun, while cultivating only the body is akin to a grown man wielding a stick."

"That's why most cultivators decide to focus on body cultivation for a bit before going all in with qi cultivation, so they would have more force behind their attacks," Jeff concluded. "Then again, it's not rare for cultivators to have the goal of cultivating both body and qi to the same realm, but only a scant few would be successful in it."

"And with that, I'll give you a body cultivation technique," Jeff said after his explanation, throwing a brown book at me that manifested from thin air.

Whoosh!

Just like the other technique, it dissolved into motes of light before being gradually absorbed by my body, and then assimilated into my mind.

Ding!

'You have obtained the body cultivation technique [Body Induration Sutra].'

'Technique Grade: Earth level (Low)'

Body Induration Sutra, what a cool name. I guess I'll use it once I leave the inheritance. Anyways, what's this Earth level thing?

"Hey Jeff, what's this Earth level thing attached to the sutra?" I asked since it was seriously attached to the information inside the book.

"Ah, those are technique grades," Jeff replied. "From worst to best, as far as I remember, it would be Mortal, Earth, Spirit, then Heaven level. These levels are then further divided into Low, Middle, High, and Peak grade."

He then added, "I'm definitely sure that there's higher levels than Heaven, but I don't remember what those are. Plus, they're incredibly rare. Even the Forbidden Chimera Sect only had a few Heaven level techiques."

Uhh…weird flex, but okay.

"Are there realms to body cultivation, just like how qi cultivation has realms?" I asked, since it seemed that Jeff didn't tackle about it.

"Yep, it's more understandable than the qi cultivation realms, in my opinion," Jeff replied. "Just like before, you should only know two realms for now. These two are Body Refinement, and Vital Force realm."

"Body Refinement, just like Qi Acc.u.mulation, is split into three stages with each stage having three levels each. These stages are Skin Tempering, Muscle Tempering, and Bone Tempering. Most qi cultivators would pretty much stop once they reach the peak of Bone Tempering."

"Anyways, once you awaken the hidden energy within the cells of your body, you form a new type of energy that can co-exist and even merge with qi. This energy is known as Vital Force, hence why the realm is known as the Vital Force realm. Vital Force alone can only be used for defensive purposes as it could shroud your body, but once you merge it with qi, it can enhance any offensive and defensive technique you use. To be honest, any move you use can be enhanced."

So…in short, Qi Acc.u.mulation and Base Creation for qi cultivation, while it's Body Refinement and Vital Force realm for body cultivation. Got it.

"Oh, I almost forgot," Jeff added. "Mastering the Body Induration Sutra will only let you break through the Vital Force realm. If you want to go beyond the Vital Force realm, you'd have to obtain a better technique from me."

Okay then, I don't mind. I'm just wondering about cultivating the two paths simultaneously to be honest.

While I was thinking about the future of my cultivation path, Jeff manifested one more book out of thin air, this time being blue in color.

Whoosh!

"Bell, catch!" Jeff shouted, hastily grabbing my attention.

Before I could even respond, the blue book had already dissolved into blue motes, going through the same process as the previous two books.

Ding!

"This is the final thing I'll give to you so you can accomplish your first few goals," Jeff said. "This is also the qi cultivation technique that would allow you to use the vessel creation technique I was talking about earlier."

'You have obtained the qi cultivation technique [Dual Soul Genesis Manual].'

'Technique Grade: Earth level (Low)'
