[Kwan General Hospital: Medical Director's office]

Enzo Li knocked on the door, glancing discreetly on his shoulder to have a glimpse of Matthew Xi standing behind. He liked tagging along with Matthew Xi every once in a while. However, not under these circumstances.

"Come in," when they heard the permission in a low voice from inside, Enzo Li exhaled as he held on the door's handle and slid it open.

"Yo! Big brother Ion!" Doing a brief salute, Enzo Li greeted Zion Kwan's.

Zion Kwan slowly raised his head, setting his eyes on Enzo Li's carefree demeanor before shifting it to the walking statue behind him. "Mr. Xi." Zion Kwan muttered, bowing his head slightly before he assisted himself up from the swivel chair.

"Should I assume this sudden visit is about my sister? Has she found out?" Zion Kwan languidly walked towards the set of sofas, perching on the head seat while the two sat across each other.

"Errr, actually..." Thinking of the reason they were there, Enzo Li scratched the back of his head. He's too ashamed to say it from his mouth as it was rather shallow. He liked gossip, but he was never bold to tackle it himself.

"Yes," Matthew Xi answered, neither having a pause nor did he break his gaze from Zion Kwan.

"Yes? Which answer is that 'yes' for?" Arching his brows, Zion Kwan pressed a button on the small table and instructed for some tea for his visitors.

"It is about Zoey."

"I see..." Nodding his head in understanding, Zion Kwan wasn't surprised.

After all, upon knowing Zoey's new lover, Zion Kwan had foreseen that Matthew Xi would do his own research. Matthew Xi wouldn't be an important figure in the business industry or in the country if he wasn't cautious.

"Yeah... she wants to find out what happened two nights ago." Meanwhile, Enzo Li was lost and assumed they were still talking about Zoeys operation cherubim. Little did he know, he wasn't on the same page as these two.

"I want... no, I need to know." Ignoring Enzo Li, Matthew Xi didn't beat around the bush.

Zion Kwan stared at his pair of unfaltering russet eyes before a brief scoff escaped his lips. "Why don't you ask her?"

"Will she even tell me?"

"She will... if you're worthy. Mr. Xi, why don't you try and ask?" Keeping his eye contact, Zion Kwan suggested with a meek smile. "Or, is it you're also afraid to know?" He added, glancing at the door that slightly opened, revealing his assistant with a tray of tea.

"Afraid to know? Huh? What are you guys talking about?" Not catching up to this odd conversation, Enzo Li altered his confused gaze from Matthew Xi to Zion Kwan.

"Enzo, give us a moment." Without glancing at Enzo Li, Matthew Xi ordered.

Alas, Zion Kwan smiled. "No, I don't think it would bother my little sister. He shook his head and glanced at Enzo Li. "After all, he has known my sister for much longer than you have... and I root for him more than you, Mr. Xi. I hope you don't mind."

"Ah? Oy, brother Ion, are you sending me to my death sentence?" Enzo Li chuckled, albeit awkwardly. Although he didn't understand their subject, he could comprehend the latter's words clearly.

'You can root for me but can you not announce it to my cousin?! Jeez!' Enzo Li added internally, almost crying his eyes out.

"I don't." Calmed and composed, the corner of his lips curled into a sly smirk. Well, even if the whole world root for Enzo Li to capture Zoey's heart, it didn't matter to him.

After all, if Enzo Li had the capabilities, the day where he met Zoey wouldn't have occurred. She wouldn't have to visit the funeral parlor and have this grand idea of having an embalmer as her husband.

Enzo Li might inflict a little jealousy on Matthew Xi. But that's just it. Enzo Li's existence was not a threat of snatching what he wanted — of taking away his territory.

Still bearing the meek smile, Zion Kwan nodded his head. "Zoey must have told you she was in an accident years ago," pondering where to start, Zion Kwan glanced at Matthew Xi.

It was not a secret after all. Even Enzo Li was aware of that, at least.

"That accident... we were in it. While we're on our way home, our driver, at that time, realized that our vehicle braking system malfunctioned..." Unlike the articles written, Zion Kwan's story was entirely different which caused nothing but silence in the entire office.

"Everything happened so fast that we could only brace ourselves from the impact. Me and my father luckily survived the collision, but our driver didn't... so were her parents, who were driving cautiously on the other side of the road." Slowly, Zion Kwan raised his gaze to Matthew Xi's emotionless eyes.

What..." Meanwhile, Enzo Li could not wrap this information around his head. These details... neither Zoey nor Zion Kwan talked about it.

All Enzo Li knew was Zoey was in a car crash several years ago. But none of them detailed what happened. Who would have thought that this was what truly happened? No one could tell because Zoey had a good relationship with Zion Kwan whom she should hate, right?

"How did she disappear?" Seemingly unfazed, Matthew Xi inquired.

"I don't know. What happened during those days, I don't know. I only inflicted minor injuries back then, and I often visited her until... one morning, she was gone." Zion Kwan shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly.

He knew he wasn't in the place to tell all this to Matthew Xi. However, his instincts told him he'll know, eventually. Therefore, Zion Kwan chose to tell him himself because Zoey would always stick to the false story no matter what.

"I see..." Matthew Xi nodded his head in understanding. He now understood the reason Zion Kwan was overprotective of Zoey — it was his conscience.

Even though Zion Kwan wasn't the person who was driving, they were still responsible in a way. Therefore, adopting Zoey was their compensation for the loss of her parents.

"Will she tell if you ask, hmm?" Zion Kwan muttered as he picked up the cup of tea. "She will, but I don't think I am ready. Are you, Mr. Xi?" He added, arching his brows after he took a sip.

For a second, Matthew Xi kept silent. Studying Zion Kwan, he must have his reasons why he kept saying he was afraid to know.

"What disappearance? Huh? Ready for what?" Enzo Li asked, still drowning in a pool of question marks as he could barely keep up.

"Ask her, you'll understand me." Zion Kwan suggested. He couldn't express it in words. Hence, he wondered if Matthew Xi would feel the same if he mentioned it to Zoey.

Blinking his eyes once, Matthew Xi didn't probe further as he nodded his head in understanding. "I appreciate your honesty, Mr. Kwan."

"Huh, you'll find out eventually." Zion Kwan humored back.

Minutes later, Zion Kwan's brows twitched as Matthew Xi remained seated. By the looks of it, Matthew Xi didn't have an intention of leaving.

"By the way, you won't mind us crashing in your office?" As if reading what Zion Kwan had in his mind, Matthew Xi inquired.

"You mean...?"

"Your little sister has another plan, and we were told to hold you as our hostage. We'll change location when that mobster sister of yours gives out her further instructions. In short, you're our hostage and you'll come with us whether you like it or not." Without a change of his tone, Matthew Xi informed him in one go.. He hadn't forgotten Zoey's plan, and he would do it so they could all move on.
