Wild Young Miss: Mister, Let's Kiss!

Chapter 269 - Bury Me Alive

One and a half hour later, Zoey and Matthew Xi finally arrived home. As soon as Zoey stepped inside the house, she flinched at the loud pop of confetti that soon filled the air.

"Welcome back, love birds!" Cora Ma greeted them with a bright grin on her lips.

"Gosh, what's with this grand welcome home party?" Zoey giggled, shaking her head as she gazed at Cora Ma before shifting it to Zion Kwan who was perching on the long couch calmly.

Zion Kwan always appeared indifferent yet, he was still there probably because of his fiancee. How cute, he couldn't say no to Cora Ma.

"Well, you've been away for two weeks and you didn't even call me! That's not how you treat your best friend!" Cora Ma pouted, crossing her arms under her chest with a 'hmp'!

Upon hearing her, Zoey let out an awkward laugh as she coaxed Cora Ma by rubbing her arms. "I was busy, you know." She whispered as they headed towards the couch around the table.

Meanwhile, Matthew Xi, the responsible husband and butler, settled their luggage in the corner of the living area. Glancing at Zion Kwan who was staring back at him, Matthew Xi just shrugged which made Zion Kwan shake his head as if they had understood each other's gestures.

"Anyway, we still need to celebrate since my best friend is already married. You know you skipped a lot of stages before getting married. No bachelorette party, no engagement party, and not even a proper wedding!" When Cora Ma plopped down, she didn't hold back with her words as she frowned how Zoey skipped everything before getting their papers done.

No one could blame Cora Ma, though. Zoey married none other than Matthew Xi and thus, holding a wedding ceremony should be considered as the wedding of the century, right? After all, with all their riches combined, they could fulfill whatever wedding dreams they had!

Yet, they seemed to hasten everything and went on their honeymoon. Obviously, with these two weeks of their absence, it made Cora Ma think of the reason.

Both didn't explain properly why they got married. They didn't say there was this Nikolai Silvestri trying to make Zoey his bride nor did they inform them about anything else!

"Soon." Even before Zoey could reply, Matthew Xi gave his words to his wife's worried friend.

Heading to the opposite couch, Matthew Xi sprawled his arms and reached for the bottle of wine and cork. "We will start the preparations this week." He added while opening the wine.

"Oh, okay..." Nodding her head in understanding, Cora Ma didn't have many words anymore as she could not think of anything to complain about.

"Hehe. Get used to it." Seeing how Cora Ma stopped whining, Zoey chuckled awkwardly as she leaned closer and whispered.

"I don't think I will." Shaking her head, Cora Ma cast Zoey a conflicted look as she was reminded who Zoey's husband was.

Up until now, Cora Ma couldn't believe that Zoey married the legendary Matthew Xi. It felt like ages ago when Zoey was harassing this man and now they're married!

How time flies so fast... well, it was almost three months so Cora Ma wasn't certain to think about the fleeting time. After all, who gets married that soon?

"I thought so too." Giggling at the expected reply from her friend, Zoey shook her head before accepting the glass of wine her husband handed to her.

"So, how are you guys while we were away?" After thanking Matthew Xi, Zoey turned to Cora Ma and then to Zion Kwan who was pouring himself a glass of wine.

"Uhm, that..." As if a problem occurred, Cora Ma pursed her lips into a thin as she accepted a wine glass from Matthew Xi with an awkward thanks.

"What? Something happened?" Knitting her brows, Zoey swirled her wine as she tilted her head to the side.

"Dad was here the other day." Zion Kwan vaguely explained. Even if he didn't have to explain Zoey everything, he was sure she would understand this simple explanation.

"Ah? How?" Zoey's already creased brows furrowed even more as her forehead wrinkled. "He doesn't know about my place." She added in a matter-of-fact tone.

"No clue. Maybe he asked someone to follow you home — I don't know." Zion Kwan sighed, giving out the most possible way how his father found this place and even threatened Cora Ma while he was away for work.

"Errr, really?" Although her brother had a point, it was impossible for Zoey.

Why? Because Zoey would notice if she was being followed or not. Unless the one spying on her was skilled like Ivan, she wouldn't notice it.

One of the reasons Zoey's guards were up when she came to know Nikolai Silvestri was around. That guy had skilled men under him that Zoey's skills wouldn't even compare.

Meanwhile, Matthew Xi arched his right brow as he glanced at Zoey's unconvinced expression at Zion Kwan's guess. Still, he kept his mouth shut and reminded himself to ask later.

"You can move into one of my villas." Without further ado, Matthew Xi offered which was immediately rejected by Zion Kwan.

"I appreciate the offer but I got us a place to stay." Shaking his head, Zion Kwan informed them.

"Eh? Why? Stay here or at my husband's place —" Sounding against it, Zoey frowned as she knew how rotten their father could be. If he was willing to erase an innocent child in the past, Zoey was worried that once Zion Kwan moved out away from under her wing or Matthew Xi's, Zachery Kwan would do whatever he pleased.

However, even before Zoey could finish her sentence, Zion Kwan interrupted her. "Z, I appreciate your help. But I can protect my fiancee." Perhaps it was his ego that wasn't satisfied that he had been squatting at her place and been relying on his sister and her husband; Zion Kwan frowned in dissatisfaction.

"But—"

"Respect your brother's decision, love." Once again, before Zoey could retort, Matthew Xi shot him a glance and muttered.

Biting her bottom lip, Zoey understood that well. However, she was worried. "Alright." Still, Zoey didn't argue anymore as she needed to respect Zion Kwan's wishes.

*****

Half an hour later, Matthew Xi sighed upon entering their room as Zoey had been silent ever since their discussion earlier.

"Z, why are you worried? Do you think your father will harm your brother?" Walking up to her back, his arms snaked around her lean waist as he rested his chin on her shoulder.

"I don't think so." He added, voicing out his opinion about what he believed. Zion Kwan was an only child. Also, Matthew Xi believed Zachery Kwan wasn't that horrible which was wrong.

"He will." Her answer made his brows knit. Slowly, Zoey turned around and faced him. "You don't know our father... I wouldn't hate him if he was a good father." Swallowing down, her eyes flickered in a way Matthew Xi felt alarmed.

He smelled a brief sense of danger with the fleeting gleam of her eyes. "What do you mean?"

"Zachery Kwan, I hate him. You asked me in the past why I disappeared... he kidnapped me, hid me inside the morgue, and tried to bury me alive.." Perhaps, it was because of her overwhelming worry towards her Cora Ma, Zoey didn't hesitate to blurt these secrets out to him.
