Wild Young Miss: Mister, Let's Kiss!

Chapter 591 - Sixth Commandment IV

"Shouldn't we talk for a while since I think we've become friends during our one year of marriage?"

Zachery's lips stretched into a forced smile, nodding his head in agreement. Well, Sarah had been very understanding and having dinner with her was the least he could do.

After all, Zachery was the one who ruined this marriage. He couldn't push his luck too far since they both knew that Zachery was the one who hurt her.

"Come. I made something -- you might like it." Sarah gracefully skipped towards the dining area.

Zachery glanced at her back before he sighed. 'Sarah is a kind woman. This is the least I could do even though it's not enough to make up for the pain I've caused her."

Soon, the two of them reached the dining area. Unlike the usual, Zachery perched across Sarah, leaving the head seat empty. Although Sarah noticed his subtle action, she didn't mention it and just smiled at him.

"So, I heard you're expecting a baby?" As she was serving herself, Sarah started the conversation as she glanced up at him briefly.

"I heard. From your brother."

Sarah added upon seeing his confused visage. Fortunately, she did because Zachery knitted his brows as he hasn't told anyone yet aside from his brother.

"I see," Puting the awkwardness aside, Zachery nodded. Still, he couldn't help but glance at her. His brother must have thought to let her know since she deserved to know, anyway.

"Sarah, I…"

"It's fine, Zach." Before he could explain, Sarah cut him off with a subtle smile plastered on her lips. "I will be lying if I say I'm not hurt. But I am happy for you, really."

Seeing how she sported a strong and light smile, his guilt slowly kicked in. Even though Sarah never professed her feelings, Zachery knew that she had feelings for her. The reason Zachery tried to reciprocate it.

However, no matter how much he forced himself and attempted to look at her in a romantic way, he just couldn't. Unlike Beth, Zachery knew it was love. Be it a sin, he didn't stop loving his soulmate; despite knowing this love would hurt someone.

The air surrounding them immediately grew silent as neither of them talked. Sarah forced herself to smile and cheer up, but her eyes said otherwise.

"Anyway," Sarah let out a heavy exhale and cleared her throat as she raised her head up. "Let's not talk about that. It already happened. Maybe, we're not meant to be and there's someone else for me that I have yet to meet."

She cheered with a fake chuckle. As she started digging in, Zachery glanced at her as he balled his hand into a fist.

The words 'I'm sorry' were stuck in his throat. Deep down, those words wouldn't do anything. Moreover, they were overused as he had been saying it since day one.

Thus, Zachery remained silent and ate slowly. Only the sounds of the cutlery knocking lightly against the plate could be heard occasionally. The atmosphere was pretty heavy that both of them could not help but notice how it weighed them down.

Soon, the meal ended and they had barely talked about anything. Sarah raised her head, seeing him take the last bite from his plate.

"I bought something for you." She stated with a subtle smile.

Obviously, Zachery was a little surprised. "Huh?"

"You don't remember, but it's our first wedding anniversary." Still bearing the smile on her lips, Sarah chuckled as she got up from her seat and walked towards the living area, leaving Zachery.

"Uh…" Rendered speechless, Zachery didn't know what to do and ended up waiting for her to come back.

Indeed, Zachery forgot that this day marks their first year as husband and wife. 'Well, not that it was important for me as they were about to get divorce…' He thought.

When Sarah returned, she was carrying a small box with her and a bottle of wine. "Here!"

She placed the small present on the table, pushing it to his direction. Zachery could only watch it slide towards him before he looked up at her with eyes full of puzzlement.

"Let me at least experience spending our anniversary." In a matter-of-fact tone, Sarah humored before she sat down in the seat across him.

"With this, I can compare how we spend our anniversary to my future lover."

She added with a chuckle. Zachery just awkwardly chuckled as he placed his hand on top of the present.

He looked at it for a little while before he looked up once again, shaking his head lightly. "Sarah, I can't."

"You don't want to open it?"

"I know that I shouldn't have the audacity to say no because all you've been doing was for my sake and for my happiness. But, Beth is waiting for me." Zachery uttered apologetically.

Without hesitation, he pushed the present in the middle of the table between them. He knew his actions were heartless. However, he didn't want to pretend and give her wrong signals.

Ironic, wasn't it? Sarah was his wife and he didn't hesitate to cheat behind her with Beth. Yet, he couldn't do the same to his mistress with his wife.

"I see…" Sarah looked down, all the cheerful facade she had built up to this point slowly unraveled and showed her utter sadness.

"Zach," Without seeing that he was assisting himself up, Sarah called out softly. "What does she have that I lack?"

Slowly, Sarah lifted her head. The tears she had been holding back for a long time were released, staining her cheek as it blurred her vision.

"Am I not enough? Was understanding your needs; your wants, and everything was the cause why we came to this point? Am I a bad wife for letting my husband pursue his dreams leading you to meet her?"

"I…" Zachery choked, attempting to say it as all his fault and Sarah didn't do anything bad. However, he couldn't. Nothing could stop those tears unless…

Before Zachery could realize it, he was already standing on her side as he squatted down. "Sarah, I…"

Sarah faced him, her tears flowed nonstop that he wiped them with his thumb. This was the first time Zachery witnessed her break down. Even when his affair was revealed, Sarah remained calm and understanding.

The reason everything felt so easy for him.. But now, with Sarah breaking down, something within him snapped as he leaned forward; kissing his wife for the second time after they made their vows.
