Wolf Girl

Recap:

Luke and Cross went to Claire's house to have her start her mission in exorcising demons impromptu without any training.

The three of them went gliding over the sky looking out for what they think are stray demons, those without a group they belong since Luke couldn't assume it could belong to Han Yu's group since he has been out in centuries and not even a whiff from him could be scented nor could imply that he was still active. Ceres on the other hand was still on the act, still Luke couldn't pin point if it was him at all.

And so the search and Claire's first ever mission continues :

Chapter 9

"I'm sorry brother" Cross spoke when we all became quiet

"You aren't going to hear the same from me" I told Luke when he glanced over me

"look here Claire, you better be nice to me wait scratch that I don't care whether you be nice to me or not but you are going to need me so whether you like it or not in which in fact I too do not, you have to respect me and treat me well so that I will try to help you in your quest " Luke replied looking me in the eye as if he was going to swallow me whole if I reply something bad but that's not gonna stop me from talking back to him since he started it anyway

"I never asked for this " I snapped back

"and I never asked for a princess like you either!" This time Luke was shouting and had caught me by surprise I glanced over Cross who seem to look sad and I read the silence that there may be something more to what and why Luke hates much, a reason I just can't learn. "Fine" I replied silently and Luke turned away and distracted himself by looking down on our surroundings and Cross did the same. Our venture through was quiet and still as waters.

"Luke! " Cross finally spoke

"I see them too dumbass so shut up" Luke replied agitated. What's with him that even his own brother he seem to hate or is this really just his character? A grumpy old man hahaha

"What are you grinning about it's your time to show us what you've got" Luke suddenly interjected

"What do you want me to do then?! " I replied, how the hell would I know what to do in these situations? I don't even know if I have some power in me in all my years of living! I'm just a normal girl stuck in this abnormal situation!

"Well first off princess you jump off this carpet and attack " Cross replied smiling as if what he just said is the most simplest thing you could ever hear coming from his mouth.

"You heard him" Luke said agreeing with Cross.

"Holy mackerel I'm going to die if I jump! Can't you see the distance between the land and this carpet? "

"You are not gonna die Claire " Luke said

"Don't worry princess we got your back, that's our purpose after all " Cross replied

Okay... Okay Claire you are having a really long dream since that day. This is all a dream, you are just on the top of your bed sleeping soundly and this is all just some fantasy dream a very long realistic fantasy dream.

"Okay princess bye!! " Cross suddenly yelled as he pushed me off of the flying carpet interrupting my thoughts as it turned into screaming.

I was falling then I felt it. The air, the wind as they seem to catch me. Is this my power? Is this really it? Wow that was easy enough.

~SPLAT~

"OW" power my a.s.s....

"Princess are you okay! ?" Cross yelled all worried as he too jumped off the carpet and landed on his feet. Wow some kind of a hero huh.

"Idiot" Luke followed suit

"I'm so going to kill you Cross, wait until I get my powers if I even have one! " I yelled

"You we're supposed to land on your feet like a sophisticated feline, what happened? " Cross asked and went closer to help me up.

"You happened" I sighed

"Hurry standing up Claire they have spotted us with all your whining " Luke said

"Now it's my fault! " I replied

Then suddenly I spotted three weird beings, all chaffed up and with a skin so red and horns curved and broken as if something banged them or crushed them , their eyes were all swollen and pitch black ."As I thought, stray demons " Luke mumbled

With a gust of wind all the three demons seemed like they we're being pushed over "a little assistance over here Cross " Luke said and I noticed Luke held his hands up . Wind, he can manipulate the wind.

Suddenly fire came out of nowhere and spread over the demons surrounding them "princess, if you please" Cross called out

"Yes?? " I asked completely astounded by what I was seeing I couldn't believe my eyes as they watch the three demons, the wind barrier and the fire that was surrounding them. Which was real?

"You are the only one who can finish them, we are only here to assist you, fire nor wind can't kill them it only slows them down to a minimum" Cross explained and Luke seemed to be so silent as he stare at me.

"I can't " I hesitated not knowing what to do. Do I chant!? Do I make hand gestures like the avatar or something? Do I just held my hand up and expect something to come out? What do I do!?

"Forget it Cross she can't, we can't expect anything from her " Luke replied looking away making me feel so guilty and awful.

"Please try" Cross seem to still have faith in me and I thank him for it but I don't know what to do or how to do this...

"You have to chant my dear... From the Rivers, the sea and the sky, the water that covered and surrounded every land, I call upon you to lend me your might as I vanquish the evil from the lands of the good" a voice went straight to my head as if some prayer. I tried mimicking what the feminine voice had whispered

"..........lend me your might as I vanquish the evil from the lands of the good" I chanted as I gestured towards the three stray demons "power out!! " I yelled and a strong current flowed out of me and splashed towards the demons, and when I say splashed I mean literally splashed like a kid playing with water.

"What the hell was that!!? " Luke yelled as angry as he can be

The three demons laughed and laughed "he's going to end your stupid princess, and he's going to exploit her as much as he can HAHAHAAH" a demon spoke

"A princess that can't kill a demon is a blessing to us from the demon king himself!! " another demon said

"He will reward us for this information, you fox spirits are useless with a useless princess! " the last one said.

How can this be? I followed the voice that whispered to me.. What did I say wrong? Am I a failure?

"Humans will be easy prey from now on. It is time for us to come out from hiding since there's no princess of the scarlet fate that will kill us anymore!! " all the three of the demons said in unison as they suddenly grunted and a big black hole formed in their center as they channel their energy into the hole

Luke panicked and grabbed Cross and ran with all his might "run stupid Claire! " he shouted "what? "

"RUN!!" The carpet suddenly scooped them over and took me too as it swooped us away when suddenly a huge explosion erupted from where those three demons we're standing creating a huge crate or hole on the ground as the tress burnt.

"No way.. " I mumbled at the destruction the demons can make.

"It's not just going to be like that Claire, there's still so much worse than that" Luke whispered and I glanced over Cross who seem to be unconscious

"What's wrong with Cross? " I asked

"Power has a cost. Don't worry he is just sleeping, his use of his power wore him down" Luke whispered and for a very long time Luke finally spoke without snapping out.

"What the hell was 'power out' Claire? " Luke asked staring straight at me

"I just thought I should say it after the chant " I replied feeling really guilty

"It just seem like the right thing to say like in the movies " I added

"This isn't a movie Claire it's reality and you almost got us killed"

"I'm sorry, but this isn't really just my fault you know, you guys we're wrong too" I replied

"I know, we placed too much faith in you and you failed us"

This time I was silent as his words hit me hard and it hurt. I never wanted this in the first place, I never asked for this.... I felt a huge lump in my throat.

"It's not her fault Luke, we didn't really trained her at all we just pressured her" Cross suddenly spoke getting up from his lying position.

"Cross are you okay? " Luke asked

"I'm fine" Cross replied

"I want to go back home" I mumbled loud enough for them to hear

The moment I arrived my eyes gave in and I cried.

I couldn't understand what I was feeling, It felt like I didn't want to disappoint Cross and I wanted to brag to Luke that he was wrong in hating me so much and that I can do it. I wanted to do it as much as I hate myself to admit it. It was something new and like it was the thing I've been missing all my life. A role that completes my long long question of why I am here and living. It felt like everything that involves them, everything that they seem to treat me like I'm someone important makes me feel like myself, another self that had been on the shelf for too long.
