Chapter 79 Part 1:  Allies

I was just leaving the conference hall after the summit when–

“Cheong-Woon, it’s hard to see your face these days.”

Jeon Seo-ho said to Jeon Cheong-Woon, who cringed and lowered his head, just as he had done before, while we were in the training institute.

“No, no. Are Red Flames Starving you? You look a little skinny.”

“We’ll take care of our own guild members.”

Yoon Kang-Baek stepped between them.

“It’s none of your business.”

Yoon Kangbaek and Jeon Seo-Ho’s eyes sparked again.

‘Hmm.’

Red Flames and the Blue Serpents have been on bad terms even before the regression.

‘So it wasn’t just the Blue Serpents under Lee Eun-Woo…’

Well. Just like the contrast in color, these groups of people are completely different types.

“You have such a slippery tongue when we both know that you just robbed my people.”

“Robbed? He literally walked in on his own.”

Yoon Kang-Baek smiled broadly.

It was an indulgent smile, but it made a murderous impression on Jeon Seo-Ho.

“It’s not polite to turn down a pumpkin when it comes rolling in.”

(T/N: He meant he wouldn’t be able to turn down an opportunity when it’s already in front of his eyes. Pumpkin rolling in is more of a Korean Phrase so I just retained it as is.)

This was getting weird.

No, really.

Yoon Kang-Baek sneakily placed his hand on the scabbard of his sword, and the wind blew along with the flow of magic in Jeon Seo-Ho’s ears.

‘They’re going to fight here?’

‘Are they crazy?’

Everyone else was looking at them in astonishment, as if they had thought the same thing.

Whether they are aware of everyone’s look or not, they still glared at each other and snarled, with only Jeon Cheong-Woon standing behind Yoon Kang-Baek.

“Stop!”

Hyewon-Unnie shouted.

“Both of you stop, what are you doing?’’

Her shout finally brought the situation to a stop.

Only then did the two turn around with a bumpy look as if they could finally see their surroundings.

“Let’s go. These people are still the same no matter how old they get. Still acting like children!”

Hye-Won grumbled and left the conference hall first.

I followed her, but sneaked a glance back at Jeon Cheong-Woon.

I haven’t seen him since the training institute, and it’s refreshing to see him back after his recent near-death experience at the gate, but he seems fine, so I don’t think I need to ask how he’s doing.

‘There will be another time.’

With that thought, I turned away, but what I didn’t expect was that I’d run into him again sooner.

“… Jeon Cheong-Woon?”

“Han Seo-ha?”

I was dumbfounded by this unexpected encounter.

“…What brings you here?”

“Well you’re here too.”

I was…

I’m here to investigate the ‘Hunter’s disappearance’ case.

… In secret.

There’s a group of Hunters who go in and out of this dungeon on a regular basis, not to kill monsters or collect by-products, but they always come out with one or two fewer people than they went in.

From what I’ve been told, it’s a very suspicious place, so I needed to figure out what’s going on, and there’s only one thing holding me back…

‘It’s the fact that this is a private dungeon, so not just anyone can enter, right?’

Of course, neither I nor Jeon Cheong-Woon own this private dungeon…

‘… Two thieves sneaked into the same dungeon, and they just had to run into each other..’

This was ridiculous.

“You sneaked in, didn’t you?”

Jeon Cheong-Woon nodded without saying anything.

What a surprise.

‘There’s no need for Red Flames to spy on this place all of a sudden.’

This dungeon belonged to a major potion manufacturer.

The government had a policy of designating a few dungeons that contained large amounts of potion-making ingredients as private dungeons and selling them to competitive ‘fraudulent’ companies.

As such, neither the public nor hunters were allowed to enter,

Only company officials.

However, a dungeon is still a dungeon, and the company hired some hunter contractors to clean the monsters periodically.

Both Jeon Cheon-Woon and I were wearing their outfits now.

‘This can’t be a coincidence. I had to sneak onto someone else’s property and run into him? That’s ridiculous. He’s definitely looking into the same thing, too.’

He’s also trying to look into the Hunter’s disappearances.

“Mr. Jeon Cheong-Woon, hurry over there… Huh?”

Kim Ki-Taek appeared from behind, and he too looked at me with a puzzled expression.

“Why is Ms. Han Seo-ha here….”

“That’s for me to say.”

“It looks like… We are chasing the same target.”

That’s the only way to explain this situation.

“How long have you known about this?”

“Not long. We’re investigating it internally, but it’s been pretty much on our own initiative that we’ve gotten this far.”

“So am I, and it has nothing to do with my guild.”

I drew a line in the sand in case they misunderstood.

This was my personal affair, nothing to do with the Netherworld Guild.

“Then we can temporarily cooperate…”

Before Kim Ki-taek could finish his sentence, we heard a rustling in the distance.

We immediately exchanged glances and wordlessly ducked down.

“… So… This time… From…”

“It just so happens… To do…I was just… That…”

The words were muffled, and I could see a flashlight shining through the darkness.

I ducked behind a rock, and the light swept directly overhead.

The rock’s shadow swallowed mine.

‘Rats.’ I thought, ‘These people are dressed like us as well. They look like mercenaries, but their purpose must be different.’

‘This is too far away from our actual ‘assigned work’ that regular mercenaries wouldn’t come this far.’

They seemed to be…

Hiding like us.

Whether they’re here to lurk or if they’re running orders for the potion manufacturer is yet to be known.

Drrrttt.

There was the sound of something being dragged.

The last man was dragging a sack of some sort.

It was the size of a man.
