Chapter 79 Part 2:  Allies

I had a rough idea of what was in there.

‘Is this where the missing Hunters are being brought?’

I crouched down to watch, and what I saw was shocking.

“Oh, I’m so tired! This is so difficult! Are they still here?”

“How’s your mana?”

“I still have enough. I’ll take it from here.”

With that, the man went to the far back and unzipped the sack.

To my surprise, what was inside was a man I recognized.

‘Isn’t that the Park Hyun-Jong I saw at the undead gate with the Blue Serpents before?!’

His face was dark, but it was obvious…

It was definitely him.

‘Mr. Jung Jin-moon didn’t give up on us, he didn’t run away.’

‘There was an infighting.’

‘A few people who were against me, including Mr. Park Hyun-Jong, split from the group in the middle…’

‘They disappeared.’

Park Hyun-Jong disappeared.

…. And now that man was lying half dead in front of my eyes.

The nameless man used some sort of skill on him, and Park Hyun-Jong suddenly staggered to his feet.

‘Body control or mind control?’

It wasn’t clear which.

Park Hyun-Jong stood awkwardly with a dazed look on his face.

It was an unnatural joint movement, like an undead.

“Come on, come on. Let’s go.”

Park Hyun-Jong walked to his feet and followed them.

His eyes were bloodshot, and the skin visible through the torn fabric was a mess.

‘There were signs of torture.’

His gait was odd, and I suspected it was due to his injuries.

His ankle is twisted in an odd way, but he walks forward.

I looked in the direction of Jeon Cheong-Woon and Kim Ki-Taek, and they signaled that they would follow.

There were too many suspicious things just to go back like this, so I cautiously followed behind them.

We walked for a long time, while navigating the rough terrain and dodging traps along the way, until we arrived at a building with state-of-the-art facilities that made it hard to believe we were in a dungeon.

‘It’s big. This was definitely not built on a day or two.’

The entrance was heavily guarded.

Heavily armed Hunters stood guard around the perimeter.

They only let the group that brought Park Hyun-Jong in after a thorough body search.

They even put a machine to his eyes, which seemed to recognize his irises.

‘It’s more organized than I thought.’

The scale was bigger than expected.

Since Park Hyun-Jong’s irises were already on their system, It seems like they were simply moving him from another place.

That means…

That there are other places.

‘Besides, I’ve seen that pattern… Somewhere.’

I recognized the symbols on the forearms of the Hunters on guard duty.

It’s not a guild’s insignia.

‘Where have I seen it before?’

Then something suddenly clicked in my head.

‘One-Eyed Religion!’

It was the insignia of the One-Eyed Religion, that cult!

The puzzle was finally coming together.

Baek Mok-Ryeon seemed to have associated the hunter’s disappearances with that One-eyed Religion.

It was the same cult that had hinted about Toluk’s existence even before the official meeting about Toluk was held.

The government, which pressured Baek Mok-Ryeon to halt all investigations on the hunter disappearances, and Park Hyun-Jong, who went missing and was found in a dungeon owned by a potion manufacturer…

It was all connected!

‘It would be difficult for us to follow them inside there.’

The group we were chasing had gone inside a building and were out of sight.

If we were to sneak in, we would be met with danger.

‘At the very least, I should let Baek Mok-Ryeon know about this. We need to be more prepared before we go in.’

Kim Ki-Taek and Jeon Cheong-Woon seemed to have come to a similar conclusion.

The signal to retreat was eventually given.

We stared at the gleaming building in the distance and turned away.

‘I wonder what’s going on inside there.’

There was no telling what the One-Eyed Religion was trying to do with the abducted Hunters.

I could only vaguely suspect that something terrible was happening.

“What do you think?”

The old man in the white robe spoke first.

“What do you think? Will he be satisfied?”

There was a hint of pride in his tone, and the man with his hat pressed down replied with a light laugh.

“Yes, sir. I’m sure he’ll be satisfied, and I’ll make sure to tell him so.”

“Haha, thank you. By the way, I have a small token of my appreciation…. If you’d like to… Just pick one up on your way home.”

“I’ve always been very indebted to you.”

“It’s alright. As long as you’re doing well, it’s good for us.”

The conversation goes back and forth in a friendly manner.

“Argh!”

“Argh!”

“Argh! Argh..”

Then someone’s scream suddenly reverberated all around.

In response, the old man raised one eyebrow and criticized the researcher next to him.

“What? Why is it so noisy!”

“Sorry, I’m sorry sir. I was just about to take the assimilation examination for…”

“Never mind. Just keep it quiet.”

“Yes, sir.”

“Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh……”

“Oh, please……!”

It was not long before the sound died down.

All they could hear was someone gasping for air.

“I’m sorry about that.”

“No, it’s okay, thank you for your hard work.”

“Hehe. It’s no big deal, we’re all doing it for the good of humanity, right?”

“Yes… Yes, for humanity.”

“They may point fingers at us now, but they’ll definitely thank us later. The sacrifice of the few for the many, isn’t it what we do? It’s pretty common for the world today.”

At his words, the man with the hat nodded wordlessly.

“Let’s talk about this inside.”

The old man added after he led him to the innermost room.

“Assistant Kwon Seong-Min.”

The man finally removes his hat.

His dark hair is neatly combed back, and he gave off a curt smile.
