11. Being Put into the Secret Prison

Translator: Flying Lines

In the dark prison.

“Behave!” hissed a guard who confined Su Jie’s arms with refined iron chains.

Su Jie was surprised when he was dragged to a prison because he had been expecting something like a storage room for firewood

Several guards pinned Su Jie to the wall, and locked his arms and legs with iron chains respectively.

Back against the wall, arms and legs stretched out and locked, he found it excruciating to stand in such a posture. With a slight frown, he looked around and saw instruments of torture of all kinds scattered on the ground, some of which in a dark color of dried blood.

These cold instruments along with the cold prison was a real torture to the mind.

He didn’t expect such a place in Prince Rui’s mansion.

Su Jie felt a bit worried, “Am I going to die in this cold, dark place? This Prince Xian is such a cruel character. He wants to torture me to death just for a punch?”

Though a bit worried, Su Jie didn’t regret hitting the prince. In fact, he rarely regretted anything. He felt great when seeing the blood from Prince Xian’s nose.

Su Jie was young, though less impulsive after being trained by the Guqin Master, he would never swallow the humiliation thrown right in the face.

Blood and fire tempered his unswerving will while extreme sorrow and pain forged his firm belief.

He was proud and unruly.

He was most times cool in his mind but also sometimes hotheaded.

The Guqin Master once commented that Prince Qin had countless Men of Sacrifice, but only one Su Jie.

Su Jie would obey Prince Qin’s order, but he had his own way of doing things.

“Will I die here?” Observing the instruments of torture around him, he was still organizing the information he personally got.

The gentle and kind Prince Rui had a secret prison built under his mansion.

The dissolute Prince Xian was a vicious man.

Xiao Shengxian had no idea that he was tagged as “vicious” by Su Jie. Had he known it, he would refute loudly that he was wronged because he didn’t give the order to bring Su Jie to the secret prison.

The guards of Prince Rui were some of his most trusted ones who knew from previous experience that all such boys would end up in the secret prison. Therefore, upon getting the order from Prince Xian, they brought Su Jie right here on their own accord.

The guards left, with only two guarding the door.

Su Jie closed his eyes and should begin to hum folk songs.

After a while, he felt thirsty and hungry. A bowl of porridge was all that he had the whole morning. Now his stomach began to protest.

“May I have some water?” Su Jie asked. But what he wanted the most was some food.

The two guards stood there in silence, turning a deaf ear to Su Jie.

Su Jie, unresigned, asked again, “At least give me some food, please. Or how can I have the energy to withstand the torture.”

One of the guards couldn’t help but laugh.

The corners of the other guard’s mouth twitched.

Su Jie continued his ‘negotiation’ with the two guards.

“Alright, stop it. I’ll give you a steamed bun.” The honest-looking and burly guard gave in under Su Jie’s persist nagging and went to fetch two buns. Since Su Jie’s arms and legs were all locked, the guard had to feed him.

“Thanks.” Now with food in his stomach, Su Jie cracked a hearty smile, “Benefactor, may I have your name?”

The honest-looking guard didn’t respond to his question. He just gave Su Jie a sympathetic glance before resuming his post.

Su Jie, discouraged by his cold response, fell silent and closed his eyes to take a rest.
