26. Apologize!

Translator: Flying Lines

“An idler?” Yue Wanzhi was shocked to hear such an answer. For an instant, he thought he had been fooled by Su Jie. Well the red robe he was wearing was indeed of superb quality, but that didn’t mean he was from Prince Rui’s mansion. An idler? That was hardly convincing.

At this point, Zhui Xing who had been silent the whole time felt compelled to do something as he finally realized that he was never going to get the order he’d been waiting for. Though to some extent Su Jie was right about him being an idler in the mansion, he was an ‘idler’ sleeping next to His Highness. That was different. So he felt obligated to intervene to let the youth know that Su Jie was under the protection of Prince Rui and warn him not to look for trouble in the future. Yue Wanzhi was the Prime Minister’s son, who might cause endless trouble for Su Jie in the future. So it was best that they borrowed the power of someone influential, in this case Prince Rui, to nip his desire to get his revenge in the bud.

Having made up his mind, Zhui Xing was about to step out when Su Jie pushed him to the front while saying to Yue Wanzhi, “If you don’t believe me, then ask this poker-face. He’s assigned to protect me.”

‘Poker-face?! Great!’ The corner of Zhui Xing’s mouth involuntarily twitched. Though a bit speechless for the new nickname Su Jie gave him, he didn’t retort. Instead, he took out his token and said in a firm voice, poker-faced, “Zhui Xing from Prince Rui’s Mansion.”

Yue Wanzhi stared fixedly at the token for a while before his face changed drastically. “Let’s go.” With that, he tossed Su Jie a fierce glare and led his family retainers away.

“Stop!” Zhui Xing thundered all of a sudden.

That shocked Su Jie as he hadn’t expected Zhui Xing, who he believed to be a mute, to act tough all of a sudden.

Yue Wanzhi’s figure came to a sudden pause as he turned around and stared at Zhui Xing, a gloomy look in his eyes, “What do you want?”

Zhui Xing now looked like a ruthless killer. He could stand by when neither Su Jie nor Yue Wanzhi exposed their own identity because that was just their personal grudge, not involving the dignity of the mansion. However, it was a different case when the two both showed their identity. Su Jie now stood for Prince Rui’s Mansion while Yue Wanzhi was just a spoiled son of the Prime Minister, who, with a much humbler status, couldn’t just leave as he wished.

“Apologize!” Zhui Xing was a man of few words but the air around him turned imposing. His years of staying by Price Rui’s side and the blood on his hands had tempered him into a person of imposing and majestic bearing which could easily hold people in fright, let alone a dandy like Yue Wanzhi who always bullied the weak by his father’s name.

“Why should I apologize? He was in the wrong! He beat my men!” Yue Wanzhi suddenly became a reasonable boy.

Zhui Xing was unmoved. He couldn’t budge. From the moment he showed his token, he had to protect the fame and dignity of Prince Rui’s Mansion, even if His Highness didn’t care about it.

Su Jie didn’t intervene for he knew Zhui Xing was not doing this for him, but for the mansion. Zhui Xing valued the dignity of Prince Rui far more than his own life. That Su Jie could understand as he would do the same if someone offended Prince Qin.

They both were the loyal kind, just not to the same person. The difference lied in that Zhui Xing could defend Prince Rui openly but he could not. Men of Sacrifice were supposed to live in darkness who had to keep their identity secret even when they died in mission in order not to expose their master.

All Men of Sacrifice were forcedly chosen and trained except Su Jie who volunteered. He would even die for Prince Qin even if it meant a lonely journey of pain, perils and sufferings. For Prince Qin, he would fight till the last moment of his life.
