Born As A Senju In Naruto

Chapter 9 - First Day at the Academy

Hikari took her first step into the Academy wide eyed with excitement and glee. Ever since the "Hyuga Incident" she had been metaphorical house arrest. Not allowed to leave the house without her oba san, Shizune, an Anbu protector, her mother or her father. Her mother had gone full overprotective mode which was only surpassed by Shizune's mother hen like personality constantly nagging her. Naruto was probably the only person more excited than she was to be here as he'd left the house extremely early according to her mom. After failing to see anyone she knew from scanning the crowd, she dragged her mother over to the school board that posted classroom assignments. She noted Naruto and her would both be in class 1A along with as she figured out from reading the class list would all the major clan heirs. There were a few non clan heirs in the class as well but there was one name that stuck out to her as it was just that one name, Sai. No family name at all just the name Sai. Turning to her mother, she asked, "Who is this Sai? He only has one name."

"Hmm," Tsunade looked at the list and hummed while thinking. "He might be an exceptionally gifted orphan that was placed with the rest of the heirs who normally have higher starting points due to clan training."

"What clan training?!" Hikari shot at her mom as they started walking to the class. "You and father didn't train me in anything. All I was allowed to do was study medical text and practice the leaf concentration training."

Tsunade raised an eyebrow at her daughter, "Oh? But who was it that took an inordinately long amount of time to master the leaf exercise?"

Snorting Hikari replied, "It's not my fault I have a massive level of chakra making it significantly harder to actually control the chakra itself. Plus you didn't even let me you know do "that" in training to make it easier."

"If I had allowed you to do that you would've had to restart from scratch later to relearn that same control," Tsunade shot back. "So technically while you didn't learn jutsu you have been building a foundation from the start. Also it's not like I needed to have you do physical training the way you run around acting like a tomboy all the time."

'Your mothers not wrong you know," Kokuo said to her. 'In fact Naruto's been having worse than you with the chakra control since Kurama's chakra is even more massive than mine own.'

'How could you betray me by sticking up for mom?' Hikari thought back to Kokuo as they reached the room. "We're here," she said excitedly forgetting they were bickering not even two seconds ago. She entered the room abandoning her mother at the door without saying anything. After scanning the room she found Hinata and made a beeline straight for the seat next to her. "Hey Hinata," she said as she sat down.

Hinata startled by the sudden presence of Hikari since she had been zeroed in on Naruto on the other side of the room while trying to hide her gaze at the same time. "Ah, Hello Hikari chan," she practically mumbled from embarrassment.

"I heard my Nii chan saved you from some bullies a couple of days ago, are you okay?" she asked Hinata partially lying since she had actually seen the incident happening but had not done anything until after seeing Naruto beaten up.

Before Hinata could answer though the door had slid closed as their teacher had entered. "Hello class I'm Umino Iruka, and I will be the teacher in charge of your class for the next few years." The man who introduced himself had a scar spanning from cheek bone to cheek bone that crossed over his nose, that while normally would be menacing looking did nothing to detract from the warm and caring feeling he gave off.

"Hello sensei," the entire class called back to Iruka as he began going over the roll. They spend the rest of the morning going over the academy rules and regulations as well as the three Admission requirements again. After lunch the class went outside to do physical exercise before Iruka broke them up to test their basics since most people in the class had practiced them before. Hikari did atrociously when it came to throwing kunai and shuriken even though she had attempted to practice in secret. She honestly just had no patience with it and preferred up close and personal. According to her dad, she had the same habits her mother did when she was younger. Though he worded it that way she felt like her mother still preferred the might of her fist over throwing things. It also showed in the test as in the girls section the only person who beat her was Hinata when it came to fist fighting, ahem taijutsu. After the testing Iruka announced that tomorrow real classes and training would begin before dismissing everyone for the day.

When Hikari arrived home she promptly smothered by her mother before proudly announcing that as always she still s.u.c.k.e.d at throwing things. Then proceeded to tell her mom about the mock fighting test they did to check everyone's taijutsu. Tsunade was quite proud of her daughter only having lost to the Hyuga princess out of all the kids in the class as she knew the level of taijutsu training the other girl must have gone through. Meanwhile Naruto wasn't in as good a mood the only person who did worse at "throwing stuff" as Hikari puts it, was Hikari. He also was in the middle of the pack when it came to taijutsu.

After dinner that night Tsunade and Jiraiya decided to make the announcement that now that both had started the academy they would now start teaching them new techniques and would officially begin training their taijutsu and as she looked at her daughter pointedly added in "throwing stuff". Naruto was exceptionally ecstatic and was the one to voice Hikari and his emotions by jumping and yelling, "Yes! Finally we get to learn something." Making the a.d.u.l.ts all chuckle at his enthusiasm.

They then took both kids out back and Tsunade demonstrated the tree climbing technique. She then proceeded to explain the way to do properly do it themselves, before allowing both to attempt it. After falling a few times both kids were made to get ready for bed as they still had to go to the academy the next day.
