Carnage In Another World

Chapter 17 - Shot in the Back

It was a little after noon when the two, the two of them happened to stumble upon a series of hot springs as they were gallivanting around the mountain.

The sight was a true beauty, one that was also very useful. They decided, here, would be a good place to rest, since they had been walking up and down hills for a while now.

Elain made Adrian wait at least a shouting's distance away while she was bathing.

Afterwards, Adrian took his turn. He had not taken a bath since he came to this world. The water was hot, but not hot enough to burn the skin. The steam that rose from the water set an airy feeling, as if you were in a different world. Every muscle in his body felt completely submissive to the waters warmth.

As the sun began to set, they sat around a well lit campfire, enjoying a few freshly roasted fish they had caught earlier. Elaine's magical talents came in handy for this. Adrian had never fished in his whole life, let alone try to use a sword to do so.

The mountains were quiet, as if the world was falling asleep and only the chattering of bugs could be heard. Adrian began to think of his past and the family that he missed.

Adrian used to live in the city. In a small apartment with his mom, and his two sisters. It wasn't a terrible life but it was simple. His mom worked three jobs in order to pay the school costs for his sisters. They both got accepted to a private academy.

It was hard sometimes, but overall he missed it. He never really was the best student but he did most of the house work. In his spare time, he would play video games online with his friends.

He would always try to be kind to anyone that he met, but he wasn't a push over. He's been suspended, a number of times, for dealing with such people. He found that some people are just looking for a fight. However, it didn't help that he had a tendency to be over protective.

Adrian, opened his eyes. It seemed as if he had fallen asleep, while reminiscing. He noticed Elian was lying beside him, sleeping soundly. Closing his eyes, he drifted off to sleep again with a smile on his face.

The next morning, Elain was the first to wake, she was fl.u.s.tered she did not mean to sleep there beside Adrian. She ran around the campsite cleaning, try to clear the flush from her face. [at least he was asleep the whole time] she assured herself. All while she was gathering everything up, she could not help sneak a glance at Adrian who was sprawled out on the ground. Every time she did her face would flush again, causing another bout of cleaning.

When Adrian finally awoke, he was shocked to see that the campsite was cleaner than his room had ever been. Despite the sandy ground, it looked like an entire group of maids had gone on a frenzy.

As he stood up, he saw Elain sitting by the edge of one of the hot springs with her head resting on her knees. [did she tire herself out while cleaning up the camp?] he wondered. He walked up to her side and patted her shoulder.

"Elain, it is time to go", he said melodically.

Lifting her head up, the first thing she saw was his face, up close. Which caused her to jump backwards.

"Sorry I didn't mean to startle you," Adrian said, helplessly.

"Its fine, I was not expecting you to be so close," she said, while she stood up and straightened her now ruffled clothes.

Bowing slightly Adrian, gestured ahead of him. "after you milady.", A smile showing brightly on his face.

"At least you know what's best for you", she giggled as she walked past him. "don't lag behind, now"

Adrian ran up to, and walked alongside, her as they continued through the woods.

Meanwhile in Faldor, Arthur had not been able to find any trace of his brother. Searching the entire city had but fruitless. It was as if Raal had simply vanished, he did not mean to run his brother out of town. He had just had enough of his brothers foolish scheming. He just wanted him act like a man for once in his life.

Arthur could not let him run because of him, if something happened to him, he would not be able to live with the guilt it would bring. Thus, Arthur packed a bag, left a note at the house in case Raal returned, and set off on a journey to bring his brother home.

" What do you want, sc.u.m." a raspy voice bellowed for atop the wooden gate. "state your intentions!"

"I have come here to seek asylum, and to search for power", a cloaked figure replied. Removing his hood with his left hand, raals face was revealed.

" You think we just let anyone enter here. You must be lost, leave your entrance is not permitted" the man shouted down at him.

Without saying a word Raal knelt down placing his forehead on the ground.

"Scram, sc.u.m you are not welcome here!" the man shouted again.

Real however stayed in his position, refusing to move.

"Last warning, stranger, otherwise..."

Still Raal remained prostrated on the ground.

"You brought this on yourself." the man said.

'Twangg..', an arrow pierced in rails back from above.

"aww ggg...." Raal screamed, clutching the small of his back, as he stumbled off into the woods.
