Child Of God

Chapter 20 - Joining The Enemy

Esdeath had arrived at her location and she was currently just hovering in mid-air and waiting to show herself. She was aiming for the admiral position because she enjoyed the idea of playing both sides in this war.

The marines now knew of Kurama, but they had no idea that she existed. Kurama had hinted that he had a boss, but they would never expect someone like a marine admiral to be the boss of Kurama.

'This base is really depressing looking. It bears that aura of slaves without freedom. Why would anyone ever look to be a marine for real serious reasons? It's like he said, they're just slaves to a higher power. They have no free will."

Esdeath stepped off her throne and started to free-fall down towards marine ford. The HQ of the worlds marines. They are powerful and have influence everywhere, but apparently not above their own HQ.

She passed through cloud after cloud and eventually she had free sight on the base below her. Even now as she was approaching the base it didn't look any better.

It was a huge base that looked intimidating up close. But it felt like looking at a fancy car, and later realize it had no engine inside it. That was Esdeath's first impression of it.

She finally reached a height where the people with some status might see or sense a regular person falling. But unfortunately, she wasn't normal in any way shape or form. She sped up and made a graceful landing on the base's port.

'That was fun. Now to sign up to fight the good fight.' Everyone around her didn't seem to even see her, and that was her intention. Falling from the sky would prompt questions and she couldn't be bothered with it.

She saw a marine in a grey suit and a clipboard in hand standing some ways away. She started to walk over to him to get some directions.

"Hello, sir. I am here to join the marines. How would I go about that?" She said while standing really close behind him. And apparently, he wasn't prepared because he jumped at her voice and quickly turned around with a hand on his sword.

"oh, hi... Sorry, you just scared me there. What did you say?" He apologized and took a proper stance again and let go of his sword.

"I was saying I wanted to join the marines and I was wondering where I would do that." She smiled at him to increase her chances of skipping some boring stuff and immediately join in. Charm and an attractive face can get you quite far.

"Oh, see that building over there. Go in there and speak to them. They will help you get signed up. Glad to have another future comrade on board. My name is Bogard, nice to meet you." He said in a calm tone.

Since the small scare caused by Esdeath was over, he had gotten back his very calm aura. And he didn't smile, he just spoke with a friendly tone.

"Nice to meet you, Bogard. My name is Esdeath." She shook his hand and at the same time, Bogard gave her a weird look.

"That's quite the unique name. Did someone name you or did you name yourself?"

"I was born with no name so I gave myself one." Bogard nodded seriously at that answer. He was thinking in line that she was an orphan or something similar so he gave her a sympathetic node.

"So it's that building over there?" Esdeath pointed to make sure.

"Yes, and you can come to find me should you need anything. I am not often present in HQ but feel free to look me up if I am ever here." He said and let go of her hand. They had been holding hands through this entire exchange.

"Wait a minute, young lady. Come with me instead." From behind Bogard came a voice that clearly belonged to an elderly man.

"Sir!" Bogard said and saluted the arrival of this man, indicating that he had a higher status then Bogard in some way.

"And you are?" Esdeath said to him and kept her smile going.

"Garp, an old fogy, that's all" He smiled and went for a handshake that Esdeath kindly returned.

"Nice to meet you old fogy. What is your business with me? I was just on my way to sign up for the marines." She let go of Garp's hand and waited for his answer.

"Well, I want you to come with me. Would that be okay?" He said with some underlying emotion, but he was very good at keeping his poker face. You couldn't read him at all. A man with a long list of accomplishments and great life experience.

"Of course. Lead the way." Esdeath was curious as to why he approached her.

She knew it was impossible to hide her entire mighty aura. She could make sure no one would ever be able to see through her. But powerful individuals with enough life experience and good instincts, like Garp, could pretty easily pick up on the fact that she was special.

Garp nodded and the two started walking through the big base together. And everywhere they went they got people looking at her and Garp and mostly talking about her. About her looks and about the katana that hung at her waist.

"Here we are." Garp and Esdeath arrived at two beautiful white double doors and were bigger then Garp by three times at least.

But this elderly man had no struggle opening the door at all. He just pushed it with his hand and the doors swung open and they walked inside together. Garp was in the lead and Esdeath behind.

"What do you want Garp? I thought you had already left." The man behind a massive 7-meter long desk said while writing a report.

"I want to introduce you to someone." Garp stepped aside to let the man see Esdeath clearly.

"Little lady, I want to introduce you to this man. This is Sengoku." Garp said and smiled widely.
