Daily Life Of A Ponytail Girl

Chapter 22 - The Final Challenge

"This challenge is gonna be about. . . tacos!"

Yaruki pointed at a fridge. "In that fridge, you'll find all the ingredients you need for tacos. The group which presents the best tacos at the end of 7 minutes wins."

Yūi crossed her arms smugly at hearing that. "So we just gotta make some tacos, right? easy enough!"

She turned around to look at her team. "Girls like us have plenty of cooking skills, right girls?"

But instead of replying enthusiastically, the girls just silently stared for a bit. Eventually, Aoi stepped backward with an apologetic look.

"Well. . . I've always wanted to learn cooking, but have been too busy with other subjects."

Similarly, Akane too stepped backward with an apologetic look.

"I. . . Always have my sister cook for me. . . Heh. . ."

Yukkuri meanwhile, just said her words like she was stating the obvious.

"Do I even look like I can make anything more complicated then microwave food?"

At that moment, Yūi came to understand the situation.

". . . Guess the cooking is up to me then."

Yukkuri placed her hand on Yūi's shoulder as she spoke.

"Not to worry dear friend, with your cooking skills and our totally amazing moral support, we're bound to make the absolute best tacos this school has ever seen!"

The other three girls didn't seem to share her optimism. Nonetheless, the group made their way to a stove and started turned it on. Yūi put some oil into a pan, placed it above the fire and started stirring it

"I'm cooking at higher temperature fire than normal in hopes of speeding things up. Is gonna sacrifice a bit of the taste, but we're in a hurry at the moment.

As Yūi threw some beef into the pan, she commanded her allies.

"Can you guys handle cutting and proportioning the vegetables for now?"

Akane immediately replied.

"Sure thing, we're on it."

The three made their way to nearby desks and started cutting the vegetables. Eventually, the vegetables made their way into a bowl ready to be mixed in with the meat.

"Okay wait, hold on a second." Akane suddenly interrupted. "Which barbarian threw tomatoes into the bowl?"

"I did." Yukkuri answered. "That juicy explosion in your mouth as you bite into them is not something we can miss, I guess."

"No no no. We most certainly can miss that. You're ruining the taste of these otherwise amazing tacos with those red balls of destruction."

"Oh?" Yukkuri answered agitated. "Making such a big deal of just a few tomatoes? Could it be you're in a tsundere mood again, hoping I'll throw in more of them?"

As she said that, Yukkuri threw more tomatoes into the bowl, to the disp.l.e.a.s.u.r.e of Akane.

"You sure you wanna pick a fight with me here where we're surrounded by knives?"

"Same goes for you missy, I have played plenty of action games to know how to handle a knif-"

"C- cut it out you too!"

Before Akane and Yukkuri could get too heated, Aoi interrupted the two to calm them down. She spoke with a serious look on her face. "Our classmates need our help, we don't have time to waste on bickering!"

The two still locked in eye contact muffled something in response.

"She's right, no time to waste." Yūi casually said as she picked up the bowl and emptied it into the pan. "For now we just need some sauce and then put everything into the taco shel- What are you guys doing?!"

Yūi was trying to stir the pan, but Yukkuri and Akane seemed to still not be satisfied with the current vegetable amounts in the pan.

"Yukkuri can you please stop just throwing more ingredients into the pan?! And you Akane, can you stop removing those tomatoes when they've already been in the pan?!"

"I'm hungry okay, I'm just trying to make sure this is an extra filling taco!"

"Do you think I can allow you to mistreat these tacos to such an extent? I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I let that happen."

"Do you two realize these aren't for us to eat though?!"

Despite all the infighting, the taco mix eventually made its way into the taco shells.

". . . Not enough vegetables. . ."

". . . Too many tomatoes. . ."

The redhead and green hair duo seemed dissatisfied with the final result. Not even Aoi seemed too thrilled about the taste of what she was eating. Still, there wasn't enough time left to make new ones, so the ponytail girl ended up presenting these lackl.u.s.ter tacos.

Yami observed the state of her opponents with an awkward smile. "Seems like things didn't exactly go to plan. . ."

"Yeah. . ." Yūi replied. "So, what about you guys' tacos?"

"They just finished Yaruki replied, as she opened a microwave to reveal storebought tacos.

Immediately at sight, Yūi and company shot up in shock.

"You didn't make those yourselves? Cheaters!"

"To think we're part of the same ethics committee Yami, you two are unbelievable!"

"How was I stupid enough to believe this was gonna be fair game! If this was an online shooter I'd totally spawnkill you throughout the entire match"

"Y- you two didn't honor this challenge the way we did!"

All innocently, Yaruki replied; "Hey, no one said you had to make them yourself."

They placed their taco on the desk right beside Yūi's.

"As for the judge," Yaruki said as a smile appeared across her face, "It's gonna be none other than. . . Yami!"

At hearing that, the same thought went through all four girl's heads.

(Why did we ever think this was going to be a fair game.)
