Daily Life Of A Ponytail Girl

Chapter 24 - Yaruki's Interlude

(Just a little bit further.)

It was lunch break at Majimena Academy. A girl with gray hair was running through the school halls. Her twin tails were shaped like drills. Her uniform was altered from the usual one by wearing a gray summer sweater instead of a normal one. Yaruki Kumotta was her name, and sweat was rolling off her face as she pushed her body to keep on running.

It was Taco Thursday. To keep business under control with the amount of students this school has, school management had decided to split lunch break into three time periods during which each of the years were allowed to buy tacos. Second-year classes happened to be the last group allowed to buy them. This resulted in them pretty much having to fight over the remaining supply of tacos. All the good ones would've already been sold out if they let the others get the chance. The school was like a war zone for the remaining students trying to get themselves a good bite.

Their goal was simple; Secure the best tacos for your whole class as fast as possible. Specifically, the meat-filled tacos. Vegan tacos were notorious for their attempts at trying to have the fake meat and cheese taste like the real deal. Sadly, these foods have yet to be able to trick these students into believing they're the real deal, making them a hard sell for anyone not specifically looking for vegan food.

The other alternative would be the vegetable tacos, for the true lover of greens. As you can probably imagine though, not many of the students here were considering health benefits when picking what meal to help them get motivated for the rest of the day.

"Class 2-A has been eliminated, over."

"Class 2-C, t- taken care of!"

"Class 2-E has met their demise at the hands of my mighty pegasus!"

"Class 2-F has also been hindered."

Yaruki was class 2-B's president, and she was currently leading her team towards their goal. Commanding them through their mobile phones, she seemed to be getting them close to victory. "Good work everybody, you make proud to be your leader."

As she closed her phone and moved forward, she assessed the situation in her head.

(Seems like 4 out of 5 classes have been taken care of. . . Then that means just one class is remaining.)

She finally arrived at the hallway that was her destination and reunited with her right-hand girl.

"You alright Rep?"

Yami Nashide was her name. A girl in her mid-teens with long grayish-blue hair.

"I'm fine. . . Everything is alright. . ."

"Are you sure? I know exercise isn't your strong suit. . ."

It was true. Yakuri wasn't comfortable with all this running around. She was more of a strategist, a schemer hiding in the shadows. Nonetheless, she had no choice but to be there physically to oversee the situation. She had to personally oversee taking care of this problem case class.

Most classes sent out students in small groups to retrieve the taco lunches for the whole class, but class 2-D took a different approach since a few months ago. Most of their students would work on distracting and hindering the other classes while sending only one person to retrieve the food for their whole class.

And there she was. The biggest threat to class 2-B's chance of victory. A girl with her ponytail flowing through the air as she ran, jumping and parkouring way past anything standing in her way.

Yūi Hibana.

"Don't let her break through!"

Yakuri's desperate voice echoed through the hallway as her classmates tried their hardest to stop this monster. Yet, all was futile. The girl skillfully slipped past the blockade of bodies and made her way into the cafeteria before anyone else. The 2-B students hurried after her into the cafeteria, but they all already knew it was too late.

"50 beef tacos, 5 vegan tacos, and 5 vegetable tacos please!"

The order had been placed. She had secured victory for her classmates. Not much later, Yaruki and Yami themselves had entered the cafeteria.

"Yami! Check the available selection of tacos to buy!"

"Of course Rep, I'm on it."

As Yami ran towards the counter, Yakuri looked at her classmates. They were watching over Yūi as she was carrying a massive bag filled with 60 tacos out of the cafeteria. As the ponytail girl left the room, Yami returned with a worried expression.

"How's the situation looking Yami?" Yaruki immediately inquired.

"It's about as bad as I expected I'm afraid." Still panting heavily, the right-hand girl reported on the situation. " Apparently, that student has already pretty much emptied the supply of the good tacos. All that is left is those vegan tacos and those vegetable tacos."

In the end, all they had managed to secure for themselves was those leftover tacos.

As they sat, back in their classroom, eating their vegan tacos, morale was low.

"Not fair, why are we the ones who gotta put up with these trashy vegan tacos. . ."

"Keiko combat style rule 56; Never pass on an energizing meal. B- but when the meal in question has this undescribably bad taste. . ."

"My mermaid ancestors were forced to eat seaweed on a regular basis for their life, but I believe even they would pass on something this abhorrent. . ."

"Aren't you guys going a bit hard on these vegan tacos. . ?"

It had been like this every time ever since those 2-D started having that one ponytail girl carry their team to victory. None of the other classes even stood a chance of getting any of the good food this way.

As Yaruki looked down at her barely eaten vegan taco while hearing the cries of her classmates, she made a promise to herself.

"I will absolutely make sure won't go through this next time."
