Daily Life Of A Ponytail Girl

Chapter 25 - New Foe Appears

It was silent in the classroom. Yūi and her group were letting the story sink in before Yūi finally said something.

". . . So this whole thing was all about your class disliking vegan tacos? That's petty. . ."

"Eh?" Yaruki replied as if she didn't understand what Yūi said.

Yukkuri added; "I mean, I'm not saying I don't understand, but like. . . Really petty. . ."

"No, wait-" Yaruki stuttered out.

Akane continued; "I almost feel bad for you guys, apprehending you for something so. . . Sad. . . And so very much petty. . ."

"Just listen will you-"

Finally, even Aoi said something about it; "To think you'd go this far, organizing something like this, all about some tacos. . . Absolutely pet-"

"Can you four be silent already!" Something finally snapped in Yaruki. "It wasn't about us not wanting vegan tacos! This goes beyond those tacos!"

Yūi made a thinking face. "So. . . You mean you dislike vegan stuff in general?"

Yaruki just facepalmed at that and ignored it.

"The whole idea was that if we couldn't eliminate you, then the second-best plan was taking out of everyone around you."

"And what exactly do you mean with taking out?'Aoi asked with a worried expression. "What did you do with our classmates, and where are they?"

"Oh, they are in one of the rooms on the bottom floor." Yaruki answered nonchalantly. "We pretended to organize a grand return to school sleepover party. You'd be surprised how easily they get convinced of things when hearing such things from an Ethics Committee members."

Yaruki held a hand out towards Yami, who had recovered from her taco experience. Yaruki continued saying; "Little do they know, we currently locked them in while they are currently enjoying some snacks and watching B-tier movies. Since you four lost the challenge, I'm afraid we won't release them before at least the end of lunch break" Yami showed off a small key she was holding.

Yukkuri asked "Wouldn't it have been smarter to just like, try and hide till you'd be able to get those tacos then, I guess? Now we might be able to think up something to interfere with your plans."

"Well," Yaruki answered, "I have to admit that this whole idea of fighting in here wasn't mine or Yami's idea, but it would hardly be a satisfying victory if we didn't at least give you a chance."

Akane looked up at hearing that. "Not your idea? Who's was it then?"

Suddenly, they heard the door of the room get locked. All girls, including Yaruki and Yami, looked at the door in surprise and ran towards. Yūi tried to push the door open, but with no success.

"Hey! What's happening?" she yelled through the door.

"Apologies, but I'm afraid I can't let you leave." came as reply from behind the door.

(That voice. . . I think I know it. . .) Yūi thought, before Akane confirmed it with her next line.

"Emiko, is that you?"

"Oh dear, seems I've been recognized rather quickly. . . Maybe I should've brought a voice changer after all. . ." On the other side of the door a blonde girl with glasses known as Emiko Hano, a member of the Ethics Committee like Akane and Yami.

"Emiko, what's the meaning of this?!" Akane asked in a loud voice.

"The thing is, I too have a stake in this taco Thursday fight. Some of you might know that I am the class representative of class 2-F."

"Emiko, wait!" This time it was Yaruki who yelled through the door. "Weren't we going to work together and beat class 2-D once and for all? Why are you betraying us now?!"

The other side was silent for a bit, before finally answering. "Why, yes, that was the original plan. But you see, class 2-B students also were a major obstacle for us month after month. The way things are going right now, we have master strategist Yakuri and speed monster Yūi both caught inside this building, alongside a majority of students from both classes locked in the classrooms.

"What did you do to my students?" Yaruki asked hastily.

"The thing is, with all those students you had set up in here as obstacles, I couldn't just skip on this opportunity to take out a few more opponents. So, as Ethics Committee member, I requested them to wait in some of the classrooms because of a dangerous individual walking around in this building. Of course, that part was made up and I just locked the door on them. After they entered."

"How dare you do that to them!" Yaruki clearly sounded offended, but all the main four could think was; (Didn't you do the exact same to our students?!)

"Anyways, classes already started like, 5 minutes ago, so I should really get going. See you around the end of lunch break, guys!"

Footsteps could be heard slowly getting quieter as Yaruki kept trying to pull open the door with all her might.

". . . So," Yukkuri remarked, "are all Ethics Committee members traitors or-"

""Zip it."" Akane and Yami replied in unison.
