Chapter 2 — Welcome to Falu

The guards’ questions weren’t interesting. I had to pay five copper coins to get in, but ENTITY left me with 1,000 gold coins, so it’s no problem. Well, Luna is showing me around now, so I’d better pay attention.

“This is the book store!”

“This is the inn!”

“This is the Adventurers’ Guild!”

“This is the Merchants’ Guild!”

“This is the Mages’ Guild!”

“This is my favorite bakery!”

Luna spent several hours showing me the entire town of Falu. It’s quite large, but for now I’m just interested in the inn and Adventurers’ Guild.

“Thanks for showing me around Luna.”

“No problem! If you need to find me, just ask around at the Adventurers’ Guild!”

I went to the inn afterwards. If I’m going to be staying here, it’s a good idea to having a home base.

“Welcome to the inn!”

As soon as I enter the inn I’m greeted by an old lady.

“Rooms are 25 small copper a night or five copper for a premium room. Meals can also be purchased at the counter.” (A/N: $12.50 or $25, see end for full explination)

“Do you have a single room that I can book for a week?”

“Sure thing sweetie. Premium or normal?

“I’ll take premium.”

“That will be 50 copper then.”

50 copper? I thought a week was seven days. I guess not. I paid the money and went to my room.

It’s nothing special by Earth’s standards, but it seems pretty good for a medieval world. It seems that time is indeed slightly different here. A year is made of 500 days, split into ten months of five weeks. Each week is further split into ten days of twenty hours of 100 minutes. One minute is still 60 seconds though. It’s twice the length of an Earth year. (A/N: Technically it’s only 475,000 seconds more. Assuming my calculations are right)

I flop down on the bed and try to sleep.

It’s been an hour and I’m still not tired. Maybe vampires don’t need sleep? I guess I should use this time to go practice magic or something.

Slipping out of bed, I go to an unsuspecting portion of the wall. I imagine a large gust of wind blowing me over the wall and chant, “Gale burst!”

Walls seem really ineffective against magic users. Well, let’s see what I can do.

*ping*

Another message?

Do not waste your time practicing normal magic, try out some of your vampire skills! You know, because you cannot show people? To start, you should be able to force blood out of your arms if you concentrate, so do that, then try manipulating it. It should expand to around ten times its original size. From there, you can change it into any shape you want. Also, you have a transformation you can use! Try it! Have fun~!

Interesting. I imagine myself transforming and fall flat on my back. It seems a pair of black leathery wings have sprouted from my back. Maybe I can fly with these? I’ll experiment later. Either way, being like this makes me feel a lot lighter…

Well then, I imagine blood coming out of my arms and it seems to have worked. I’m certainly bleeding. Well, I’ll try to move it around some, waterbending style.

That seems to work, and it seems to take on any shape I imagine: chains, rope, swords, spikes.

It seems that the blood is really strong too, since I’ve managed to cut a tree with some strings I made. It seems I lost track of time, the sun is already starting to rise. I’d better sneak back in.

People wake up really early… the old lady welcomed me as I entered the inn. I also bought a meal but it’s rather bland. I suppose you can’t expect much with a lack of seasonings. Well then, I think I’ll go buy some weapons and sign up to be an adventurer. It seems fun.

The first stop is a weapon shop. An old dwarf runs the shop. He said his name was Gold. Funny.

“Do you have a glaive?” (A/N: Basically a sword on a stick. It’s very cool I promise)

“Sure thin’ missy, if you can lift it, haha!”

Gold leads me to a rack of polearms.

“Choose one ya like. Then bring it to the front n’ I’ll give ya a price.”

All of these seem like quality weapons. I chose one around my height, and bring it to the counter.

“A mithril-adamantine alloy one? Nice eye missy. If ya can afford it, it’s 10 gold coins.” (A/N: $500,000… is that too much? Too little? I don’t know how weapons are priced. It’ll be fine…)

Weapons are pricey. However, I have money. Armor? Who needs armor? God gamers don’t get hit. Well, some clothes to look the part might be nice.

Adventurers’ Armor Warehouse. This seems like a good place to buy clothes for adventuring. Well, pretty much anything should be better than a light, white tunic and leather skirt.

After browsing for a while, I’ve settled on what I’m going to buy. A black cloak with some gold embroidery, a warm cyan short sleeve shirt, a knee length leather skirt but with armor plates (and especially designed for ease of movement), and some darker cyan leggings.

“That will be 15 copper. Would you like a basic protection enchantment applied for only one silver?” (A/N:$75, +$500)

Protection enchantment? Maybe I can do that myself. I should go to the bookstore.

“Uhhh… no thanks.”

“Well then, take care.”

To the bookstore I go!

The bookstore smells like old paper. How exactly a medieval society has access to lots of paper, I don’t know. Well then, to the magic section!

“Where’s the magic section?”

“Back shelf on your left!” yells an old man from the front. He has amazing hearing while looking like an 80-year-old.

“Thanks!”

Let’s see… basic magic… a beginner’s guide to monsters… intermediate magic… advanced magic… enchantment for idiots. Odd title but I’ll take that. And I’ll take the other ones too, since they seem useful.

I bought the books for one silver. Books are expensive. I’ll read them later. Now, time to go to the Adventurers’ Guild.

Azure_Fog I have no fashion sense, but I think it would look good? Probably? Anyways, do you think anything will happen in the Adventurers’ Guild? (Also, releases slowing down after the next chapter because I ran out of stock)

Money:

Spoiler

50 cents = 1 small copper

$5 = 1 copper = 10 small copper

$50 = 1 small silver = 10 copper

$500 = 1 silver = 10 small silver

$5,000 = 1 small gold = 10 silver

$50,000 = 1 gold = 10 small gold

$500,000 = 1 small platinum = 10 gold

$5,000,000 = 1 platinum = 10 small platinum

[collapse]

One billion dollars is only 200 platinum coins… what have I done…
