Fire And Flame

Chapter 22 - Get In

Brandon's eyes narrowed reading the mail. This was something very unexpected. He immediately shut his mail application on his phone and also shut down his personal computer.

He called Gabriel to inform him something and right after a minute, he ended the call.

He eagerly waited for tomorrow.

Next morning, Laura and Lily drove off to the office at nine. Laura had no work except for signing on a few files and explaining Lily what all should be done in the upcoming three meetings. In absence of Laura, Lily used to handle the whole company smoothly.

"Lily, explain the upcoming projects and changes that will be done in the previous project in the board of directors meeting. The departmental meetings will tell what all problems the clients are facing and you can come up with ideas, if not, then leave those for me. I'll handle them personally after I return."

"Yes, Boss. Have a great day!" Lily winked at Laura, who gave no reaction.

Let her imagine things she wants to.

~"Good morning, Mr. Reynolds. Are you busy now?" Laura texted.

Soon after a few seconds, her phone beeped.

~"Good morning. I'm free for the day. Do you want me to come over to your office now?"

~ "No worries. I will drive to your office myself in 30 minutes. Will finish a few paperwork first."

There was no response after her last message. Considering that he agreed on her driving herself to the office, Laura started signing on the papers. Soon after fifteen minutes, she left the office and went to the parking lot. It was about to rain so she started walking fast. She was about to enter the parking lot, a bright beam of light flashed. Squinting her eyes, she tried to figure out whose car was that. The atmosphere was dark as it was about to rain, which made her difficult to see who is sitting inside the car as light fell on her directly. But then, the headlights turned off. A black Maybach slowly drove to her side. Opening the window, Brandon looked at Laura.

"Why are you here?" she was shocked. It was just a couple of minutes ago she had texted him. And now he's already here.

"You don't want me here, Ms.Williams?" his voice was calm.

"No no, that's not what I meant. Umm… I texted you that I would drive myself to your office."

"I was free, I told you."

"But still..."

"Get in, it's about to rain." he opened the passenger's seat next to the driver's seat.

Laura quickly got into the car. Suddenly, it started raining.

"Perfect." Brandon turned the car around and drove off to his office.

Upon reaching, Laura opened her umbrella and moved to the other side of the car to give Brandon a shelter under her umbrella.

"I'll be fine." Brandon smiled as he politely declined her offer.

"Get in. No time to talk." Laura hissed. The raindrops dashed against her arms which made her feel cold.

Brandon and Laura shared one umbrella. As he was tall compared to her, she had to raise the umbrella.

But this man was too tall. Was she supposed to tip toe and walk?

Giant.

Brandon saw how Laura struggled to keep the umbrella high. She looked adorable. He took the umbrella from her as their hands brushed against each other. Laura gasped.

"Ah, I'll hold it for you." he quickly took the umbrella from her. Laura let out a sigh of relief. Her poor arms.

They soon reached the main building. The staff welcomed Laura with smiles and greetings.

"Ms.Lewis, please look after Ms.Williams." Brandon immediately looked out for the middle-aged woman.

"Ms.Williams, you're all wet. Let me arrange a set of clothes for you." A woman offered Laura help.

"Thank you very much." Laura smiled.

The woman showed her the way to women's room, next to the washroom.

"Sir had already asked us to buy a new pair for you, just in case it rains." she took out a cameo pink colored knee length dress from the wardrobe and went to take out a pair of new white colored heels from the shoe rack. A perfect match.

"I hope you'll like this." she smiled as she handed over the dress to Laura.

"I do like it. Thank you." Laura flashed her pretty smile.

'She is pretty.' the woman thought to herself.

Laura changed into the new dress and slipped into the new pair of heels inside the changing room.

The woman looked at Laura and admired how beautiful she looked.

"You look beautiful..."

"Thank you. It's all because of you." Laura smiled. She went to take her bag from the table.

"Let us go."

"This way." the woman took her back to the main hall where Brandon was waiting. He had changed into a new black suit. He smiled when he saw Laura walking towards him.

"Feeling better now?" he stood up and straightened his suit.

"Much better."

"Let us go, then." his office was on the ninth floor. They stepped into his private elevator. Brandon placed his thumb finger on the small touch screen and pressed on number 9. As Laura guessed, this was his private elevator. No one could use this because this only accepted Brandon's fingerprint to work. The interior of the elevator was white like the building. The whole building was pure white in color. And so was the elevator.

High maintenance required.

There was a moment of silence in the elevator. Too awkward.

"It was you last night..." Brandon finally spoke.

"No, it wasn't me." Laura knew what he was talking about.

"Did you read?"

"I did." Brandon stared at Laura.

"Security, Mr. Reynolds." Laura spoke as if trying to indicate something.
