Fire And Flame

Chapter 23 - Mr. Hacker

The door opened with a voice saying, "You have arrived." It was the voice in the elevator which would speak once you arrived at your destination.

"We have arrived." Brandon smiled as he gestured Laura to step out first.

She walked out of the elevator and both went to his office. There were two rooms, one had a white opaque door with a touch screen in the middle and the other had a translucent glass door. Just like the building, this floor was pure white. This kind of creeped Laura out.

'Why is his car black?' she thought to herself. That's the only black thing he possessed except for his collection of suits of dark shades.

"You want something to eat?" he pulled out a chair for her to sit.

"Thank you, it's not yet lunchtime." Laura smiled back at Brandon.

"So, Mr. Reynolds, what now?"

…..

"Hello, Mr. Hacker..." Jacob jumped out of his seat when he heard someone whisper near his ears.

"Geez! Who the hel--" he was speechless the moment he saw Lily's smiling face.

"Why would you do that?" he took a deep breath.

"Wait, what did you say? Ha-hacker?"

"Did you hear something else, Mr. Hacker?" Lily chuckled.

"..."

"I was about to have my lunch. Mind to giving me company?" Lily had finished one of the meetings. She needed food to concentrate on the rest of the meetings.

"Give me a minute." Jacob was still wondering if Laura had told Lily about his identity. But for now he's only Mr. Hacker for her, not Black.

They both walked to a nearby restaurant which served best curries, be it vegetarian curry or non-vegetarian.

It was Lily's favourite.

A table for two was already reserved for them which made Jacob smile internally when he looked at the reserved tag on the table.

"I'm hungry. Stop smiling and start ordering your favourite dish." Lily saw Jacob smile like a little teenager.

'What's wrong with him?' She thought to herself.

"Shall I take your order now?" The waiter asked, ready with a pen and a small notebook where he writes down all the orders of the tables assigned to him.

"Chicken butter masala with butter naan bread" Both spoke at a time. Lily and Jacob looked at each other.

How lovely.

"For both?" The waiter was confused.

"Yes, for both of us. It's our favourite dish! Can you please make it fast? We are very hungry, Sir." Lily requested while holding her stomach as if she were to die out of hunger. Jacob gave a small chuckle looking at her. How cute!

"Sure, Miss. It will be ready in 15 minutes."

"Thank you!"

After the waiter left, Lily glared at Jacob.

"So, tell me who you are?"

What kind of question was that?

"A human…?" Jacob answered honestly.

"Haha! You're tricking me huh? How much I remember so far is that you were very shy back in school and you didn't talk much to anyone. We talked for a few times when I had asked you to play basketball for our house match. And yes, you loved maths. How did you become a hacker?"

"..."

How was he supposed to answer this? Did he not have any other interests?

"Um… I loved computer programming as well…"

"Ah! Since when?" Lily had her detective mode on.

"Lily, are you blaming me for being a hacker?" Jacob backfired.

"..."

"I think you got enough time to waste now. I will assign you more marketing tasks. Wait." That sudden question was something Lily didn't have an answer for it.

"I'm fine with it, Lily." Jacob winked at her. He'll accept anything and is ready to do anything that is assigned by his crush.

Meanwhile, Gabriel reached Brandon's cabin and was shocked to see Laura. What was she doing here?

"Good afternoon, Ms. Williams."

"Good afternoon." Laura smiled and returned reading the files Brandon had given her.

"Are you surprised, Gabriel?" Brandon rotated his chair to face Gabriel who was standing in front of his desk.

"Yes… it's the first time I'm seeing Ms. Williams here." Gabriel let out a laugh. An awkward laugh.

"Don't worry, we are talking about business. There'll be a lot of changes done to the company from tomorrow." Brandon smiled and gestured him to take his seat.

"What changes, Boss?"

"You'll know once I finalise with Ms. Williams."

"Ah, okay, then." Gabriel smiled back at him. He had a few files in his hands which required Brandon's signature.

"Boss, you need to sign on these papers. It's the property papers which you purchased recently. Once you sign, we'll start with the renovation of the building. It needs changes." He showed him where to sign. It looked as if he was in a hurry.

"Are you in a hurry?" Brandon asked seeing how fast he was showing him where to sign.

"No, Boss...?"

"Good. Can you get me the files from the seventh floor which are in my black drawer? It's urgent."

"Sure, I'll be right back." Gabriel left in a hurry leaving all his belongings in the cabin. He had left his phone and his bag.

Laura glanced at Brandon when Gabriel left the room.
