Fire And Flame

Chapter 24 - News

After thirty minutes, Gabriel entered the room holding a big fat file. Laura was still reading the file, Brandon was still working on his personal computer.

"Boss, there was only one file in the drawer. Is this the one you were looking for?" Gabriel handed over the fat file and took his seat.

"Gabriel, as I don't have much work to do today, I'll be discussing a few things with Ms. Williams before seeing her off. You can have your day off today." Brandon finally looked at Gabriel who was happy… his face glowed.

"Why are you so happy about?" Brandon raised his left brow, looking at his assistant.

"I have my day off." Gabriel happily said.

"Don't be so excited." Brandon smirked and started flipping the pages of the file.

"I shall now take my leave sir."

"Mm…" as soon as he left, Brandon looked at Laura who was already looking at him.

He immediately dialed an unknown number, patiently waiting for the other person to pick up.

"Done?" the person picked up the call right after a few seconds.

"Yes, Sir." Brandon got a confirmation from the other side of the call.

"Good. Back to your desk." He ended the call right away.

"It's never too late, Mr. Reynolds." Laura stood up and walked near his desk.

"You can sit beside me to have a better look at the screen." Brandon gestured her to sit to his left. They had to watch something together.

They spent a couple of hours together watching what was happening. Brandon couldn't believe what was being displayed on the screen.

Soon, they stopped watching.

"I am sorry, Mr. Reynolds." Laura felt bad for Brandon.

"It's fine." he sipped water from the glass and shut his computer.

…..

While Gabriel was moving out of the office, he was in a hurry that he didn't see a man walking towards him. They both bumped into each other which made him lose grip on the files he was holding. He had forgotten to put them in his bag as he was in a hurry, so he carried them right away.

"I am so sorry, Sir. Let me pick them up for you" The man apologised and started gathering all the scattered papers.

"It's fine." Gabriel collected all the papers and assembled into a stack.

"Thank you." he left immediately.

He didn't even pay attention to the man's face who bumped into him a while ago.

The man called someone as he clicked on the caller ID; Laura Williams.

"The work is done." He ended the call right away.

Laura on the other hand didn't say anything as she only had asked the man to inform whether the task was completed or not. After the confirmation, she stood up and walked towards Brandon's desk.

"It's never too late, Mr. Reynolds."

….

Gabriel took his phone out of the pocket and called someone.

"I am heading to the given address. Meet me in twenty minutes."

"Okay, we will be there." The man on the other side of the call spoke.

Gabriel drove fast to his destination. Within twenty minutes, he reached the spot. Locking his car, he walked into an isolated house in the corner of a rice field. There were two bulky men who accompanied him till he got into the house and kept an eye for any suspicious activites happening around.

"Welcome, Gabriel. I hope you got a good news to share with us today." A man in his late thirties turned his rotating chair towards Gabriel as soon as he stepped into the house. The house was completely worn out, the walls had cracks and the roof had holes which were covered by rags. There was no source of light that could peek inside the house except for a burning lantern which was kept in the middle of the room. The room being dimly lit by the burning lantern gave an overall spooky look. But, Gabriel didn't mind stepping into the house as long as he stepped out of this, safely. He had the things they wanted. So, there was a low chance for them to kill him in this spooky-slaughter house.

"I have good news as well as bad news for you..." he took a seat and opened his bag to take out the file. Those weren't the original file but the photo-copied version of the file. He had managed to get a copy of the original when he got an opportunity when Brandon had asked him to get his file from downstairs.

"First, Ms. Williams had visited the office. Boss said that he had to discuss something important with her. I don't know what they were discussing as he asked me to leave. Second, I got the photo-copy of the file. This contains information of the upcoming events that will take place next week. Nothing very remarkable, but they are planning to go for an updated version for all the phones to fix bugs." He handed over the file to the man.
