Rory is currently enjoying a nice fluffy piece of bread that these people call a blue berry muffin. It is amazing how they got the bread all fluffy.

"Mmm." She says to herself, enjoying the muffin. She is walking around outside, it being midday, or these otherworld warriors call it, 12:35 pm.

It has been three days since Vanguard-7 escorted with the refugees to their base of operation. When she got there, she was amazed on how different they are. These massive armor horses they call tanks and vehicles. As they 'drove' up, everyone saw the battlefield from when these people came from their world.

Tens of thousands of dead bodies laid on the ground from the Empire Legions and their allies. Bodies everywhere, torn apart. All piled on top of each other. Rory is very impress on how destructive they were. The Empire has finally faced an opponent that was far stronger than they, Emroy is going to be very happy.

And that Major Sharpe soldier. It was very brave for what he did, helping those people. That is very out of character for people in Falmart. He and his people are soldiers, but they do not act like soldiers. The Legions are used to keep their subjects inline, enslave and **** their enemies and conquest. They are to be feared. So far everything he has done been the opposite. He also arranged living arrangements for the refugees. I must get to know this man.

As she walks, she would be heading closer to the 'Gate', the portal between their worlds. It is fenced off; many parts of the base are closed off to us but that did not bother her. If she really wanted to go to their closed off areas, there is nothing they could do to stop her.

As she got close, she will notice the young girl, Selina she called herself.

Back at the village Rory saw what happen. Seeing that happen, she was about to kill those four men that enslaved her but notice Sharpe. At first she planned on killing him, thinking he wanted the girl for himself however she felt something different. Decided to just watch and see what happen, she was shocked and impress what she saw. He just helped her.

Rory is standing there by the fence, watching as the soldiers bring cargo through the gate. As a thank you from Major Sharpe for helping in the battle against the dragon, Lelei and her were given their own tent with some special rights on the base. Selina was also assigned to their tent, so I could protect her while he was not around.

"Hello there, enjoying the view?" Rory will ask, as she walks up to her right.

Being a little surprise that she was not alone anymore. She will look up at Rory. "O, hello Rory. I am fine, just watching them." Selina says in a quiet voice.

"I can see that. See anything interesting?" Rory asks back. She looks at the direction of the Gate.

These massive vehicles are pulling these other machines that these people have. Selina looks back at what she was looking at. "Yeah, those things. They call them 'helocopter', I think that's how you say it. One of the soldiers said it fly in the air. They can either attack other soldiers or carry them." She says, halfway understanding the meaning of it.

Rory thinks for a minute. "So, it is like a Wyvern but metal. Like everything else they have. Very interesting."

A short silence between the two as they watch them bring in more helicopters come through the Gate.

"Rory... what do you think of them? Everything seems so different." Selina would ask. The question seems more of a question for herself, trying to figure things out.

Rory smiles and then chuckles. "Do you what my thought on these Americans or of Sharpe."

Selina blushes a little. "Ahh... I don't know." She again says softly, being a bit insecure.

"Why are you asking me the question?" Rory asks.

"You are Rory Mercury, the demi goddess of Emroy. If I can't trust you right now, who can I trust." Selina will say, in open thought. But then she would continue talking, preventing Rory from responding. "I mean... I do not understand why he intervened. I don't know him, and it seems he doesn't know me. I been… I been…"

Rory see, the girl seems to be struggling to say what she wants to say. But she understood the message. She saw the whole thing happen and was puzzled at first to.

Selina would continue, getting uncomfortable by the silence. "I thought he wanted me for himself but there's been nothing but kindness."

"They are different. What we are used to do not apply to them. Originally, I was going to kill Sharpe and his team. I thought they were robbing and enslaving the village, but he freed you and then what happen with the dragon. I think they are honorable people and I think they are adorable."

"Maybe. But why did he freed me, for nothing? Why?" Selina will keep asking, just not understanding. She is having such a hard time wrapping her head around what she been witnessing. Her people were brutally destroyed just recently by the more powerful Empire. But these even stronger people do the opposite, it does not make since.

"I do not want to guess; you should ask him." Rory says to her.

"...but...." Selina mumbles, getting cold feet.

Rory will laugh for a second. "Don't be sorry, if there is any dishonorable actions by these people, I will take care of it."

They will both look at each other and smile.

Sharpe is be sitting at a desk, waiting for the brass meeting to begin. Everyone in the briefing room would be an officer. It has been a busy three days, who knew helping refugees would result in so much paperwork, thank god he has his team assistant to help out.

When he got back, from his mission, some of the brass was not that happy about him bringing all those refugees back to base. Lucky, after much convincing, they were not turned away.

One of the officers all of a sudden yells. "Attention!".

Everyone stands up as the head of the expeditionary force in the Special Region, Major General Charlie Stanford.

"Please have your seat." Stanford will say, as he takes his own seat.

Everyone else would will do the same.

Stanford begins to speak first. "I want to start off and say good job to everyone. Our recon teams so far have suffered no causalities. Vanguard-2 were able to establish good relations with a nearby village south from here. I want your team to follow up on that, see if we can begin trading relations.

Stanford will look down on her sheet, on topics to discuss. "Vanguard-4 ran into the Empire troop. If your report corrects?"

The Captain of that team would speak up. "Yes sir, we had a brief engagement, but I decided to disengage. It seems like they were on a patrol, but we did not know if there was a larger force coming."

The General will nod from that response. "In this case, right decision. We will figure out that out later and see where they are camped. Once the airfield is built, we will send scout helicopters to determent the threat level. O, and that reminds me. Everyone, it is your call but be careful out there. There probably more patrols going on. Our technology far superior then theirs however, all you need is one bad day and an ambush."

"Now for the matter at hand. We all know what happen with Vanguard-7." Stanford says.

Yes, everyone knows what happen. They brought over refugees and fought off a dragon, nearly getting everyone killed. Sharpe had a private meeting with the brass a few days ago, where I got my a.s.s chewed out. We are a military, currently at war, not a humanitarian charity.

"I want to make it clear, as we go out, we will make friendly relations with the local population, but we are not here to change their ways. Our mission is to prevent a second attack on the homeland." Stanford will say.

That is when one of the officers raise his hand. When he was called on, he disagreed with the General. "Sir, what is the point then? We should help these people as much as we can. At least as a secondary objective."

That is when another officer would speak up. "Nope, that is not why we are here. Does anyone remember Afghanistan? We won the war but then we stayed around for twenty years. Is that really the plan? We couldn't change a culture of a people on our own planet, how can we do it with aliens?"

"They are not aliens, they are Humans." Someone will say.

The same officer will shot back, professionally though. "Not all of them. There are dragons, as Major Sharpe dealt with. They are elves, goblins, hybrids of humans and animals and god know what else. This is not our world; the rules do not apply here."

That shut everyone up for a minute. That officer has a good point, this is not our world. We are not here to social engineer these people. How would we even do that, we have nothing in common.

After some thought, Sharpe decide to speak up. "He is right, about changing them. We are here to protect our world." He would be interrupted by another officer, making the point he was the one that brought this refugee issue to them. But someone else shut him up so he could continue.

"But this is where I disagree. We cannot abandon who we are. We cannot abandon our principles and our values just because this world is scary and different. We must show we are not here to conquer them, and we are an alternative to the Empire, we are different. Being different has always been our advantage." Sharpe will say, just speaking his mind.

Colonel Robert would reply to him. "That is a very interesting point of view Major, all of yours. We wanted all of your feedback since you're going on the field. The question is, why should we do with the refugees we have now?"

One of the Vanguard team leaders would speak up. "Well we can send them away, if they run into the Empire though, they probably be killed."

"Why do we have to take care of them?" Another officer will say.

"What do you mean by that? We took them in, it is our duty." Another responds.

"Not what I mean, we are here acting like they are unable to take care of themselves. They clearly are able to support themselves, all we need to do is provide a hand. They don't not need us to babysit them." That last officer responds.

Stanford speaks up. "I agree. We can't hold everyone hand. If we are going to help people, they need to help themselves. We will work on details on setting up a location for them to call home. However though, this is not an invitation to bring everyone you see. Only people who are willing to aid us or are facing persecution. Any questions?"

As everyone settle down a little, knowing the plan. There will be no new questions on this topic.

"Alright, the final part of today brief is that some of our fellow NATO allies will be coming. The Canadians and the British Royal Marines would be here in a week. The French and the Japanese would be arriving by the end of the month."

"One last thing. Before I forget... it is not on my list. On top of the recon missions, we will be beginning escorting science related missions. Details are still being worked on. As of now, keep going out, continue making contact with locals, find out everything you can about the Empire and this world.

And the General will stand up, one of the officer's yells "Attention". Everyone will stand up and salute and the meeting will end.
