Harry Potter And The Dual Lord

Chapter 25 - Money problem

Next morning Arthur was shaken awake. He looked at Peter annoyed who replied with the same annoyed expression "Stop making that face, it's already 7.30 am. You will already hardly have the time to have breakfast, if I didn't wake you up you would have probably missed classes."

Hearing him Arthur was stupefied. He never got up so late in normally. But it had been an exhausting day, and night, for Arthur.

Merlin's competitive spirit had seemingly been awakened by the fact Dumbledore became Arthur's personal teacher. He intensified the already crazy training regime.

Of course it wasn't without results. Although he didn't really learn a lot in one night, he still felt the results were better than the day before.

After a small internal conversation with himself, Arthur had decided to skip breakfast to try creating the endless ink quill. Although he could experience making artifacts in the dream world with Merlin because the latter was able to make materials pop up, he still was told by his master that it would be better if he could try to experiment alone.

But as he changed himself he realized something very important: He didn't have any material for making the experiments. And he didn't have any lab to experiment.

This created two major hurdles. The second one wasn't that difficult to overcome as there existed something incredible called the Requirement room.

For starters this room only shows itself to those who really need something, and if that something exists in Hogwarts then it will be transported into this room. For example if someone needs toilets then toilets will appear.

Same thing here, if Arthur wants a lab then he can make one appear with the Requirement room. Actually there certainly aren't the things needed to construct a lab in Hogwarts, but he just needed to buy them in the near Hogsmead. And even if there aren't enough things there, then he can go to Diagon Alley, but he would need to learn apparition as he wants to keep those experiment a secret.

But even then the Requirement room wouldn't be useless as Arthur would be able to have a secret room. After all, as long as no one sees him entering the room then without personally entering his lab they wouldn't be able to enter his lab in particular.

If someone knew about the room, which is highly unlikely, then what are they going to wish for? Where did Arthur go? It wouldn't lead them anywhere. As long as no one wishes to enter 'Arthur's lab', then no one can enter. And even if they see him enter they would need an advanced spell no student can master to enter.

No, for Arthur the biggest problem would be the ingredients. He wouldn't be able to get any from the Requirement room, and not all of them could be found in Hogsmead so he would definitely have to learn apparition. Apart from that there is the monetary problem.

Although Arthur has made his parents invest in several promising companies to make them win money, those companies won't just rise all of a sudden because he needs it. He still won money thanks to those, but it is not nearly enough to buy all the materials he needs.

First lets not forget it isn't his money, but his parents, who don't know whether the companies will go any further. And the amount of money he needs is exceptionally big because he doesn't even know the materials to construct his quill.

Merlin hasn't told him how to do it because he wants Arthur to use his mind and knowledge to create the quill on his own. This is actually very difficult and way above Arthur's level as this would be the same as creating it himself. Well actually he is as it doesn't exists yet.

But to make a rather extreme comparison, it is not because an engineer wants to create a nuclear reactor that he can do it. It is the same principle here. Arthur will have to use his knowledge about every runes, their reactions to different materials and then learn how they add up together to eventually make the endless ink quill.

Magic isn't as simple as taking the quill and adding runes that would give the quill endless runes. A single rune has different effects on different objects, for example a rune can produce heat on a certain wood, but the same rune would produce frost with a certain rock.

Moreover the quills aren't normal quills already, they are created with integrated anti cheat spells, so they use runes and magical materials too. If in the making of the quill you add one more material or change the ratios for materials by even one tenth of a percent, then the quill wouldn't function anymore.

So Arthur will have to find a formula that wouldn't change the quill's original attributes and add the function of endless ink. That is how complicated artifact making is.

Arthur couldn't help but sweat when he thought of how Merlin created Excalibur. Making an endless ink quill was already so hard, so to make something as powerful and complicated as the legendary sword was just too hard.

Respect rose in Arthur's heart as he thought of that. Of course there are certain rules even in this profession so the maker won't have to remember by heart the reaction of every rune with every material, as long as they learn the rules then they can guess the reaction it will have. The hardest is making it so that not everything cancel each other.

Back to the subject, to create an endless ink quill by himself would ask a lot of money. It would be worth it, first because it's practical but more importantly because this would mean a huge leap in ability for Arthur.

But all of this will be in the far future if Arthur doesn't find a quick way to make money. Arthur could see several options for him to gain money, but most were illegal, and the others unpractical.

After all he could rob the Malfoy family by tricking Draco pretty easily, or use Elena to take from the vampire king.

"Arthur! Wake up!" Arthur looked at Peter with a frown, who said "You have been frozen for five entire minutes, what were you thinking about?"

Arthur snorted hearing him but said nothing and continued putting on his clothes. He really liked Peter for his fearless character. Most people would get scared when Arthur frowns or looks someone coldly, which he unfortunately has the habit to do.

But this guy would always answer normally or with anger sometimes. Arthur then made his dark mist disappear, revealing him in his robes, and asked Peter "Have you eaten yet?"

Peter sneered "What, you think I wouldn't dare go there alone without waiting for the great Grindelwald?"

But as soon as he said that he felt something knock against his forehead, pushing him back until he fell on his bed, dizzy.

Arthur grumbled "Limits, Peter. Limits." But Peter got back up as soon as he said that, perfectly fine except for the big red mark on his forehead.

He grinned and said "You are too easy to anger. But yes, I have eaten." Arthur nodded and said "I'll skip, let's go to class, we'll meet the girls there."

Peter nodded and the two headed toward their next class, double potions with Ravenclaws.

But on the way Peter suddenly remembered something and asked "Where were you last night?" Arthur's heart skipped a beat hearing this, but he answered with a stony face "Reading, I told you already."

Peter teased "Weird, this morning I ate with Karol. And as you know she is like us, she only has one roommate, that is Elena. Strangely, she disappeared last night too. So she checked the common room, but it was empty!"

Arthur looked at him warningly, but he didn't care and said "You were together, weren't you?" Arthur frowned and tried to explain "We were together, but it's not what you think…"

He was interrupted by a loud laughter "Ahahahah".

It was with a bloodied forehead and a big grin that Peter entered the potion class alongside a sullen Arthur.
