Meilin stood there speechless, she'd never been asked that question before.

Criminal records...murder...now it all made sense. "You're lying. You didn't kill anyone" Bao burst into laughter "what makes you think that?"

"You might be aggressive but I'm sure you'd never consider killing anyone. You did go to jail but it must've been for something else."

"you don't know anything" he just wanted to leave. He was running out of patience and he had work to do.

"I like you for you Bao" he looked back at her, shook his head then walked away. She felt weak internally, like she just wanted to let out everything she bore in her c.h.e.s.t, hatred and love for the mysterious boy she cared for.

Years had passed after their confrontation and they never crossed each other's path again. He worked day and night to earn some money he could use to feed himself and other times, he'd just take breaks even if he'd be yelled at by his boss.

There was no day she didn't cross his mind, he missed her. There was no denying. Even when he saw her walking beside other boys, he was hurting. He was having flings here and there but his heart belonged to another.

He wish he could tell her what really happened, why he lost hope and trust in humanity.

What he'd gone through behind a cell. The trauma and sadness all had an effect on his sanity. He shouldn't have listened to Big bro Zhang, they failed to get away with the money, well he and the other gang members failed but Zhang was the only one who managed to escape with all that money and left his gang to suffer in the hands of the cops.

He still had nightmares of the beating and torture he got from older cellmates, how they'd terrorize him day and night. His scars could always testify.

His shift closed early the day of meilin's graduation. He had nothing else to do, so he he made his way to his old school. It was a perfect opportunity to see her before she probably moves out of state for college.

He felt dirty seeing people in fancy clothes, he just closed from his Friday job and still had his pizzeria clothes on. He could hear people laught to but he ended up ignoring it.

He took a seat to watch what was going on and at the Same time look out for the girl the treasured in his heart. Everyone graduating looked so nice. It made him wish that he took school seriously, but his life wasn't cut out for success and he'd forever pay for his sins.

"And now it's time for an opening speech from the school president" his eyes widened, he didn't think he'd be able to find Meilin so soon. Hearing her talk on that podium brought him to tears. He was proud of her. Proud she didn't waste her time on him, with her popularity and all, he was sure she'd have a boyfriend or something.

Maybe he'd find her later and thank her for being part of his life.

Once the graduation ceremony was over, he hurried to find Meilin. She was about to leave when someone called her name. She turned to answer and figured out it was Bao.

He had a smile on his face as he walked forward to Congratulate her. "Bao what are you doing here?!" She was shocked then she scanned him head to toe before she assumed where he was coming from.

"I only came to congratulate the pretty girl in front of me" her cheeks reddened and she immediately turned away. "Yeah...uh...thanks" she thought for a moment "what would you like to do? Mind coming to my place?" He shrugged. Now that she had her one way ticket to freedom, she wanted to get out from her highschool premispremises.

Bao went to meilin's home after he got invited  and she served him tea with snacks once he settled down. They both were seated on the opposite sides of the table eating and trying to think of a conversation.

"What's your college plan? Out of state?" Meilin shook her head "It's still here in the city. I didn't want to go somewhere far away from Ma"

Bao could understand, at least it was good for a start. "You've really grown. You should be like seventeen?"

"I'll be turning 18 soon, but right now I'm still seventeen"

"What about you?" Her question made him laugh hard "Well...I'm 21. I'm an old guy"

"Grandpa" she chuckled and that same moment, the door opened. Hana, her mother walked in with some grocery bags and stood shocked at the door step.

The two got up, scared of how she'd react. Meilin didn't tell her about him, and Bao didn't know how to introduce himself to her. The situation wasn't so bad because he hadn't even done anything to her...yert. They're just mainiting it at a friendship level for the mean time..

Bao cleared his throat and Meilin walked forward to meet her mom "Can we please talk in the kitchen?" She promised bao she'd be back once she tells her mom about him.

They'd spent minutes inside the kitchen and bao started to think he wasn't welcome. He got up and left without telling her and he felt bad. Meilin heard the door click and she went out of the kitchen to check if he was still there. Him leaving made her sad, she didn't have his contact and she was yet to solve his mysteries. Bao was on his way out when he bumped into a familiar face. "Shit" he cussed silently.

He unfortunately had to run into the same man that arrested him five years ago. He could still remember the cold expression of his hooded eyes. He lives in the same neighborhood with Meilin and he saw where he was coming out from "why today?" He asked himelf before walking away just when the man was about to  say something. Once Bao turned back, he noticed he was heading for Meilin's front door, probably to tell her mother what he's been hiding.
