How To Stay Immortal

Chapter 2 - Same body, different name, different history

Finding himself descend into the lower Realms Gaulle is happy to notice, that he is neither falling to fast like in his first note to slow like in his last incarnation.

-With my current speed, I should be descending somewhere in Midgard like all the other Deities now Gods or Goddesses before me.- He thinks praising this personal luck.

-Midgard means 'middle-ground' and is the realm that humans and other mortals dwell - though it is not uncommon for the gods and other creatures to make an appearance. The major feature of Midgard is the Lake of Nine, a large traversable lake with a city build on an island in the center. This city called 'Jirnem', meaning 'yearning' in the tongue of the gods, is said to be the trading center of all Nine Realms.

The 'Nine Worlds' or 'Nine Realms' are unified by the cosmic fabric known as Yggdrasil. Despite existing in the same time and place most races inhabiting the Realms aren't even fully aware of other realms beyond the one they are living in. The six races are the Aesir (sky titans) of Asgard, the Vanir (earth titans) of Vanaheim, Menn (humans/dwarfs) of Midgard, Jötnar (giants) of Jötunheim, the Alfar (elves) of Álfheim and the Nair (corpses, the dead) of Helheim.-

Having lived as both a Nair as well as an Alfar, Gaukler doesn't really care anymore if he becomes a dwarf or a human as long as he ends up in Midgard. Having the by now familiar feeling of incarnation the young deity let's his conscious slowly fade out before awakening in his third body.

Coming to live is never easy, not the first time and even less the second time around. No deity ever before him had tried incarnating a third time, know Gaukler knew why. -This f.u.c.k.i.n.g hurts.- Thinks Gaukler while having his consciousness assaulted by memories not his own.

The now descend deity had transcended into a body nearly identical to his astral one. The body he now calls his own is called Dante Elcraft. Dante is a young boy with brown hair and a scarred face. He has light freckling and his eyes are an icy blue.

He is dressed currently dressed in common clothes consisting of a white dress shirt, brown pants held up by a pair of straps that pass over the shoulders and fasten to the waistband as well as a pair of black shoes. Despite being part of the aristocracy Dante had always been a shy and easily frightened kid, always eager to please and never to disappoint or annoy anyone.

Sorting through the memories of the now deceased Gaukler learns all kinds of things before being able to take full control over this new body of his.

Aside from his aristocratic status in society the five-year-old had for the most part been an outcast of society. As the second son of a former maid turned mistress Dante as well as his mother had always been the dirty little secret of the Elcraft Family.

Being born and raised on the Country Estate of the Elecraft he had a great childhood living together with his mother Elenor. Having a by far better than most bastards of aristocrats, Dante had been oblivious to the cruelty of the world. Everything came to a dead end when two weeks ago his father called the mother and son pair to the Elcraft Townhouse in Yharnam. Reason the celebration of Dantes elder brother Vincent entering the Academy of Worthington.

-An old institution of learning, the Academy of Worthington is built in a peaceful, situated at a secluded lagoon the Lake of Nine and thus far away from the city of Yharnam. It is here the elite of the aristocracy studies and explores the depths of human knowledge. The Academy is where the 'Ascension' is explored by study the human flesh and blood.-

With the believe to finally earning his fathers recognition for himself and his mother, Dante had high hopes for Vincent's party. The illusion of childish hopes had finally been shattered by his father's horrific announcement.

-''For entering the Academy of Worthington, I, Cornelius Elcraft herby gift my mistress Elenor Elcraft to my eldest son Vincent Elcraft as study material.''... - Gaukler learns through the scattered memories of Dante Elcraft, thinking. -... What a f.u.c.k.e.d up family! Gifting a twelve-year-old boy a twenty-one-year-old woman to study?!-

Absorbing and scanning the remaining memories of the deceased, Gaukler learns how the former host of his body died. After seeing his beautiful mother Elenor being given to his elder brother via collar and leash, the gentle five-year-old Dante died that evening.

Having sold everything away the child had made up his mind to rescue his mother from his brother before that one would leave for Worthington. Dante had bought a handgun, a Scotfield Revolver to be precise and ambush his brother coach on the way to the docks in the east of Yharnam. The poor boy had been able to stop and confront his elder brother but died tragically in the following shootout.

Thinking about his current situation and slowly gaining full control over his body Gaukler decides to fully embrace his new identity as Dante Elcraft and succeed where the former had failed. -I will save your mother boy. Rest in peace knowing that she will be safe with me.-

Thinking that Gaukler finally gains full control over his new body just as if the former Dante gave his consent for him using it from now on. Snapping open his eyes the new Dante snaps open his eyes. Looking into a greyish sky he instantly realizes that this place is not the Midgard he was expecting from his godly sibling's descriptions. Feeling an insane thirst for anything liquid to wash his throat he sits upright and finds himself in a narrow street between two house fronts, paved with cobblestones. Gaining his senses Dante is assaulted by waves of laude noises and all kinds of smells.

-Noise, noise, everywhere noisea.- He thinks because it doesn't matter which way one turned, the city is awash with noise. Noisy traffic, noisy industry, street musicians, the cries of street-sellers and street collectors echoed through the streets while the air essentially composed out of horse dung slowly intrudes into him.

The side street Dante is in stinks even more than the larger street up ahead because the dung is shoveled from the main street and dumped into this one. Tumbling to onto his knees the now 5-year-old fights for every inch to reach the nearest source of water, in this case being a muddy puddle of water from the last rain shower.

Lowering his head into the puddle of water to drink, Dante feels the bud of a gun poak his belly. Removing the gun and taking a sip of water, he internationally curses Fortuna. -You had to screw with me a third time, you just had to do it. Just wait for my glorious return and your humiliation! I will make you my first wife and force you to tolerate my harem. You just wait for my vengeance Fortuna!-

Feeling the water run down his throat to quench thirst, Dante finds two things on his body that are not part of the memories he just went through.

Aside from clothing and gun he has a broken lantern hanging from his left arm and a small black book under his dress shirt.

Recognizing both book and lantern Dante is shocked to what lengths this goddess had gone this time to screw with him. -I just knew it she had to screw with the 'Immortal Lanter' and the 'Book of Creation'-

Opening the small black book a note falls out of the otherwise empty pages. Catching the paper Dante reads its contents.

- I made some small adjustments for my favorite little deity. First up the small portable lantern is a prototype version of the 'Immortal Lanter you requested. It works on thalami for happy killing to stay immortal. Second I emptied the 'Book of Creation' of its contents, good luck forging your own path to godhood. Yours truly the Goddess of Destiny, Fortuna.-
