I Slept Through The Apocalypse

Chapter 4 - Another Sleeping Enthusiast

Drip! Drop!

Pitter, patter. Pitter, patter.

Clover g.r.o.a.n.e.d. He knew he was in trouble. He meant to only sleep for an hour but there's no way it could have gotten that dark in an hour. His eyelids were still closed, trying to savor the blissful feeling of resting his eyes. Even so, his eyes could tell that his surroundings were very dark, even pitch dark.

He turned to one side and mumbled, "5 more minutes..."

Clover suddenly noticed something weird when he turned onto one side. Grass… is this hard? He felt a sharp object poking into his back. It felt like a rock. What am I doing lying on a rock though?

He then felt the numbing coldness which made him almost unable to feel his limbs. As a self defense

Listening closely, it sounded like it was raining outside..

"Outside? Wasn't I asleep under a tree?" He finally opened his eyes and jolted onto his feet to analyze his surroundings. He realized why it was so cold. His clothes were dripping wet from the water leaking from the ceiling of the cave.

It was dark. A faint white ray of light illuminated just enough to give clues as to where he was.

"This looks like… a cave? A really small cave...", he also noticed how the cave strangely, was perfectly round.

Cautiously, he walked towards the faint ray of light shining through a patch of rubble. He moved the rocks revealing a small stone hole leading upwards. Clover began to scale the stone hole, which lead to an even larger cavern. The top of the cavern was missing and instead revealed a beautiful sky stars.

"The stars are so bright in the sky. Where am I that I'm able to see the stars so clearly?"

After looking around the cavern which he now concluded resembled more of a crater, he found nothing. He couldn't even find the object that caused the crater.

This confused Clover even more. There were very few things that he could make sense of at the moment. He had no idea where he was, or how he got there. A sense of panic started to build up but before if affected his actions, Clover remembered his lucky charm and reached in his pocket to rub it.

*Rustle*

*Rustle*

A bead of sweat rolled down his forehead. Where was his lucky charm!

"Mom's gonna kill me, she really liked that lucky charm."

Panic swept over Clover like a tidal wave. He was in full panic mode now. Keeping in mind how impractical his actions were, he began calling out for his lucky charm.

"Lucky Charm?"

"Lucky Chaarmm!"

"LUU―"

"Stop shouting, I am trying to sleep!"

The sudden response startled Clover. He looked around but couldn't find the source of the voice. Shocked and bewildered, he called out again cautiously.

"...Hello?"

There was a pause. A low sigh. Then a reply.

"... What do you want?"

Clover still wasn't able to locate where that voice was coming from. He continued to look around for any sign of other life.

"... I'm not out there fool, I'm inside of you."

A warm comfortable feeling gathered in Clover's solar plexus. It seemed to be kicking his c.h.e.s.t in annoyance.

"W―what are you?" Clover stammered as he felt his c.h.e.s.t, "what are you doing inside of me?"

The voice replied with a tinge of annoyance, knowing that his nap time was officially over.

"I am what you've been calling all this time, 'lucky charm'. I have awaken from my slumber and I am currently using your body as a catalyst for gathering energy. Without you hosting, I would fall back into a deep sleep."

"...What? You're just a parasite inside of me? I knew that charm was too flashy to be true. I should have kept it in the attic but instead I chose to carry that little stupid flap around and now it's s.u.c.k.i.n.g my life essence probably!"

The voice gave another kick and spoke in disdain, "Humph! Humans have such low intelligence levels. No wonder they got wiped out so easily on our world. You should be thankful I even considered using you, a lowlife human, as a catalyst. Not only will being a catalyst drastically improve your strength and spirit, it'll significantly speed up your cultivation rate. Which in case you weren't aware of, is dreadfully abysmal."

Clover's head was spinning. There was so much information in that one sentence he didn't how to process it all.

He took a deep breath and calmed himself down, before asking, "Alright, if we're doing this, let's start from the beginning. What do I refer to you as? And how did you get here?"
