Jack Schnee [RWBY]

Chapter 18 - Hero's Requiem (The Unshakable Hero)

I glanced around and saw that I was in a thriving country filled with different stalls and smiling places. I talked to the people around this city and all they could talk about was the great hero who stopped the war and brought peace to the Diamond Empire. Some say he was a genius that could make 10,000 plans in a single second. Others say that with one punch he could crush mountains and have delayed entire armies by himself. All of them were positive things that you typically only hear of a person after their death, but this hero still lives on. I found out that to meet this amazing hero that you have to enter in the annual fighting festival and win. It just so happens that the festival starts tomorrow and all the participants have to be below the age of twenty. The winner of the festival gets to meet the hero and has a chance to become his disciple. Once I heard the news, I rushed over to sign up for the chance to meet this legendary hero. After waiting in an absurdly long line, I was able to finally sign my name up to compete. After signing up, I could hear the laughter of someone several feet away. I glanced over at them and I could see that all of them looked fairly strong. The one laughing was a short guy with long black hair. When I looked into his eyes I could feel the contempt in his eyes. The one next to him was slighter taller than him with green eyes and short green hair. He looked apprehensive of his surroundings and was the exact opposite of his companion.

Frank: My name is Frank and this is my partner Ralph.

Ralph: Hello.

Frank: I'm doing you a favor and letting you know that I'm the best here and no one else stands a chance.

Ralph: Frank's really strong, so if you fight him then please give up.

Frank: Ralph grow a spine! You can't act weak when you're around me. When I win, I'll finally prove once and for all that I'm the greatest of all time. Only second to the great hero himself.

Jack: Well, I hope we meet each other in the finals then.

Frank: You? I'd be surprised if you got through the first battle let alone the finals.

I simply wave my hand and head off to explore the town a bit more before sundown. Everyone but Frank seems to be happy and thriving in this town. Everyone seems to have a place to call their own and things they want to do. It was hard to find anyone that was really unsatisfied with their life. I did learn that is probably because the war was so bad that people were struggling to survive and people were dropping like flies every day. Now that it's over, they can appreciate what they have and look forward to the future. I also learned that people come from all over to get a chance to meet the hero, so they scheduled events to weed out everyone that's too weak. Thankfully, I found a nice person who allowed me to sleep in his attic. Next time I go inside this book I'll be sure to bring camping supplies. I slept like a log and woke up the next day.

I leisurely walked to the festival and once again surprised the number of people present for this event. I go over to a very wide building that will hold the first event. Awaited a while until a woman wearing a fancy robe came in and walked to the center of the room. In her hand, I could see she had a dark crystal ball that had various lights in them that looked like they were struggling to break free. The woman spoke to the crowd of people and told them that the first test will be a test of will. This crystal ball has the power to read your soul and soon you will face your greatest enemy. It may be in combat, strategy, or even a certain person. Now I know that some of you might not have any enemies or believe that in your heart you are unrivaled, but everyone has someone or something they must face. To overcome it means that you have passed the test. The first 16 people to pass this test will go onward to face each other in a tournament to decide who will become the hero's apprentice. The orb in her hand glows a variety of colors and one by one everyone is falling unconscious. Since I know this is a test, I willingly let myself be affected by the magic and fall unconscious like everyone else. I opened my eyes to see that I'm back at Beacon Academy. I'm in a class where Prof. Freeze is deciding who should fight next. I wonder who is my greatest enemy? Is it Cinder? To my surprise, she says that Jack Schnee must fight Jack Schnee. I look to the other side of the room to see another version of myself walk down to the stage. He looked exactly like me in every way. I couldn't believe that such an impostor could exist. Why is he at the school? I rushed down to the stage and ask him who he was. He just smiled and said, I'm Jack Schnee.
