Larger Than Life, Bigger Than Us

While Doctor Shi was examining Lily, further away, in the office, Song Jae and LingLing were in a heated discussion.

" Brother, why wasn't I aware that you were engaged? How could you hide something that important from me? Am I not your brother??? I know we did not grow up together but I am still your family! Am I an outsider???"

LingLing was furious that such information was not shared with him. His big brother was his idol so he should have known every single thing about him.

"It was decided before I was born and I wasn't aware of it until 9 months ago. I was planning to introduce you two formally but we had a fall out and she had gone for a trip. I didn't even know she was back until I found her lying on the side of the road. Anyway, is all of this that important? You know we have bigger plans to accomplish no? Shouldn't you be more concerned about that? What's the progress so far?" SongJae's tone was icy when replying to his hot headed brother.

"Then why wasting your time with her? "

"She is crucial for our success. You must treat her well! Understood?"

LingLing nodded to buy peace then walked away still angry. SongJae could plainly see that Lingling still thought Lily was just a burden. SongJae sighed.

Lily was trying to stay calm but her mind was spinning with what the doctor said. She stared a long time at Doctor Shi. He didn't seem to be joking. His good looking face framed by gold thin glasses was looking back at her in all seriousness.

"Miss Sheng, I think you suffer from amnesia. You don't remember anything prior to when you woke up?"

"Doctor Shi please call me Lily... let me try remembering" As Lily was trying, an intense suffering came over her, threatening to split her head in two.

Doctor Shi seeing her grimacing under the pain, felt a little bad. She looked so young and defenceless. It made him want to protect her and shelter her from all the wrongs of this world. The doctor didn't understand his feelings very well, after all she was just an acquaintance and today was the first time he met her.

" Miss Sheng!... hum... Miss Lily... it's enough, you don't need to force yourself! We have a lot of time ahead so, let's take it easy ok?" As he was speaking, he put both of his hands on her shoulders and looked at her in the eyes. She felt comforted somehow by what he said.

"Doctor, will I ever recover my memory? Why is it that whenever I try to remember I am in agony?"

" I believe you must have sustained a trauma and your body is protecting from hurtful memories. Once you will be mentally strong enough, you may be able to remember...or not. It's hard to say at this stage. In any case, you need to take good care of you in the meanwhile."
