'Heh. These Yabans following humans are a disgrace to the great Yaban race.'

As Joshua proudly walks the streets he scoffs at the domesticated Yabans following the children. Seemingly ignoring the fact that he had been constantly dissing his species, he now refers to his race as the "Great Yaban Race".

This is probably due to the fact that he succeeded in "skillfully infiltrating" the town. This success was getting to his head, but would probably die down in a couple of minutes.

'Anyways I probably have about an hour or so before it starts to get dark I need to explore the layout of this town before that. If not, at least find a place to sleep through the night.'

Wandering aimlessly through the town which was too large for a small Yaban to explore in a day. It was then that Joshua happened upon a skewer stall, attracted my the aroma of grilled meat.

'MEAT!'

'I haven't had meat since I came here. I've been living of the damn grass and sun, and let me just say that grass is NOT tasty.'

'It may be edible I guess because I am a Yaban, but I'm still an avid meat lover at heart!'

Joshua hides at the corner of an alleyway next to the skewer stall and patiently waits for his chance. Of course this is risky as a chance might not come and Joshua would have wasted the day.

But fret not Lady Luck is making up to Joshua for the first night and a chance occurs thirty minutes in the wait.

The stall owner drops a skewer on the floor and curses, but is too busy with the customers waiting for him that he can't find the time to pick it up and throw it away.

*sheen!*

Joshua's eyes light up at the sight.

'My time has come!'

Joshua sneakily approaches the skewer trying not to let the people notice him and grabs the skewer. Josh then quickly retreats to the alleyway away from sight.

'Phew I don't think anyone saw me as it would be suspicious that a grass eating Yaban would try to get a meat skewer.'

Joshua goes deeper into the alleyway hitting a dead end filled with a few broken crates. He worms his way into one of the empty crates through a smashed opening dragging with him the meat skewer.

*Phew!*

Now away from sight Joshua heaves a sigh of relief and turns his attention to the skewer that is still warm.

'Well, Bon Appetit!'

Joshua starts to gorge on the meat skewer eating with a face of absolute bliss.

'It's sooo good! Though a bit plain probably due to the taste buds of Yabans not being made for eating meat, but still 120 times tastier than grass.'

*Burp*

'That was amazing now I should probably go back to looking for a school or something similar as I planned.'

Joshua steps out of the crate and sees that it is getting dark already.

'Darn maybe I'll just go back and sleep in the crate then continue tomorrow.'

"Mom do I have to go to school?"

It was then that Josh heard a little boy complaining to his mother as they walked past the alleyway.

"Don't worry it'll be fun. It's only going to be your second day of school tomorrow and you are already complaining"

The mother chides her son with a gentle smile on her face.

"But it's sooo boring! All we did was learn each others names, when do they teach me how to level up? I want to become a hero!"

"Don't worry they'll start teaching you that tomorrow, be patient my little hero."

"Really?! I can't wait!"

Hearing that Joshua was shocked.

'Am I so lucky? First the skewer now this! Maybe I really am a protagonist... Naw. That kind of thinking will get me killed. Plus from their conversation the system definitely is not unique to me. Was kinda hoping it was though, but I guess it being universal makes it easier to learn about so it's not so bad.'

'Anyways I should follow that kid to his house and sleep somewhere nearby so that when he goes to school I can follow him!'

Joshua waited until the family of two was a bit farther ahead of him until he started to follow them. This way the family would not notice him following them.

Not that they would mind if they saw him following them, but just to be safe Joshua did not take any chances.

After following them for only a short five to ten minutes Joshua had left the market area where the skewers were being sold and entered what looked to be a residential area.

In this area there were quite a few more Yabans in the area letting Joshua blend in more with his surroundings.

As Joshua followed the two he curiously looked around the houses. They looked a lot better than what Joshua had imagined in his mind.

After giving a quick glance at the buildings, Joshua continued to follow the child and his mother to a house that was not as large as some of the others in the area, but also not the smallest. Somewhere in the middle.

While the mother took out her keys to open the door Joshua hid at the side of the house that blocked the night breeze.

*kacha*

"Alright get in my little hero, you'll have a big day awaiting for you tomorrow. It's getting late now so got straight to sleep after washing your teeth. You'll need the energy for your epic adventure tomorrow after all."

"Okay mom! After I become a hero no one can boss me around! Hehe."

The mother narrowed her eyes at her sons words and asked.

"Not even your mom?"

"Look at the time! I need to get ready for bed! Goodnight mom!"

The boy panicked at his mother's words and scurried in after giving a lame excuse.

Joshua making sure that this was their home settled down on the grass.

'With the wall blocking the wind and my fur it's pretty cozy so I might as well sleep here until the boy goes to school tomorrow.'

With that Joshua settles down and closes his eyes with peace of mind that no wolves would pop out in the middle of the night to gobble him up.

At that moment the boy aspiring to be a hero and Joshua coincidentally had the same thought.

'I can't wait for tomorrow.'

The boy looking to chase his dreams while Joshua looked forward to finally getting answers to his innumerable questions.
