One Piece: Sea Devil Sanji

Chapter 10 - Sea Devil

Sanji headed for the supermarket where he remembered he once bought a rare Blue-Finned Elephant Tuna from a half-fishman called Sapi.

He managed to find the fish and bought it once again.

He spotted Usopp shopping for eggs for his weird experiments "Hey, Usopp!"

"Ah, Sanji!" Usopp turned to him "Did you find anything good?"

"Yes" he pointed at the giant fish by his side "Good thing I had run into you. I need you to take this to the ship. I have something else to do"

"What!? That's too heavy for me! I can't carry it on my own! Hey, wait!" Usopp shouted at him but Sanji had already left.

"If I don't find it in the ship later, forget about getting dinner" Came Sanji's reply as he turned a corner.

Once outside the supermarket he blitzed on top of one of the surrounding buildings. He jumped from roof to roof towards the direction of the center plaza.

He landed on top of a building on the edge of the large square. He found the Buggy's pirates holding the town square hostage and at the far end of the plaza he spotted Luffy on top of the tall execution platform. He is caught by a wooden stocks for his head and hands under Buggy's foot.

"Gyahahaha" cackled Buggy as he addressed his hostage holding a sword above his neck "Any last words before I cut your flashy head off. Might as well make the most of this large flashy crowd"

"..." Luffy grimaced at him.

"Well, whatever. Whether you have any last words or not, It isn't like anybody will care for what you have to s-"

"I'M THE MAN...!" yelled Luffy "WHO'LL BECOME THE PIRATE KING!"

"!!!?"

Sanji smirked as silence reigned over the plaza. The crowd were stunned by Luffy's declaration.

"Hah!" Buggy sneered at him "Is that all you have to say you rubber brat!" he lifted his sword up preparing to cut his head off.

"Wait!" a yell cut him off. Buggy looked towards the source of the voice and spotted a head of green head running towards the town square from one of the connected avenues.

"So you've come, Zoro!" Buggy watched him unsheathe his swords and run towards him. He reached the execution area and tried to plow through the Buggy's pirates blocking his way, but it does not look like he will make it. Buggy sneered as he clutched his sword "But it seems you're too late...!"

Meanwhile the sky was darkening with heavy rain clouds and the wind was picking pace. Buggy begins to bring his sword down on Luffy's head. With all seeming lost, Luffy came to terms with his imminent death and smiled telling his friends that it looks like the end. However, at the last second a bolt of lightning hits Buggy's sword electrifying him and destroys the platform.

"..." The fighting stopped in the plaza as everyone looked at the tumbling flaming platform.

Rain started to heavily fall down putting the flames down.

Luffy stood up and caught his floating straw hat before it landed on the ground. He looked fine with not a scratch on him.

"Nahahahaha! Looks like I did survive!" Luffy happily plopped his hat on his head "How Lucky!"

Everyone had their jaws drop to the ground not believing their eyes.

Zoro reached him "Enough laughing and let's leave this town already. We've got more trouble heading our way" he pointed at the marines that emerged surrounding the town square.

"Let's run away!" Luffy and Zoro darted to the nearest exit from the plaza.

Sanji smiled as he eyed someone hidden in the crowd. It was Dragon who made eye contact with him right before vanishing like the wind "Everything makes sense now... I always wondered how Luffy surived that day but It was his doing all along" he shook his head and dashed towards his captain.

In the distance, he caught sight of Zoro engaged in a sword fight with Tashigi and Luffy caught in Smoker's smoke trap.

He picked up the pace and bolted forward appearing to the side of Smoker suprising everyone present. He coated his left foot in Armament Haki and kicked the marine captain on his side.

"Ugh!!" Smoker lost his hold on Luffy as he was sent flying breaking through the glass of a shop window.

Luffy, now free, landed awkwardly on his feet then excitedly jumped on his cook "Wow! How did you do that!? I punched him many times but he always turned to smoke whenever I touch him!"

"I'll tell you later, now is not a good time!" Sanji manhandled him on his shoulder and started running away

"Ahh!!" Luffy was caugh off guard by Sanji "Wha, what's going on!?"

"We have to run for it or we'll be trapped on this shitty island! A huge-ass storm is coming in!"

Sanji turned his head to his right and found Zoro running alongside him after disarming Tashigi "What was that all about Marimo?"

"What are you talking about, dumb-ass?" answered Zoro.

"That lover spat you just had with that women marine officer. Did you fall in love or something?"

"Wha!?" Zoro almost fell face first to the ground.

"You looked pretty fl.u.s.tered when you fought her?" Sanji smirked at him.

Zoro righted himself and yelled at Sanji with shark teeth "Don't lump me together with the likes of you ero-cook!! She just looked like a dead friend of mine! She even sounded like her! I was surprised that's all! So don't read too much into it!"

"Yeah right..." Sani smiled at him mysteriously then ovetake him forward.

"Hey, what's that look for!?" Zoro followed behind him.

"Nothing..." said Sanji before turning a corner "Don't get lost now moss-head and try to keep up. We need to lose our pursuers before we head back to the ship"

After many twists and turns, suffering under a heavy downpour, the three finally reach the Going Merry in the western harbour. The ship was barely holding up under the stormy weather.

"Luffy!" yelled Usopp when he caught sight of them.

"Look at all this rain!" Luffy, who was let down by Sanji to run on his own sometime during their escape, happily shouted back.

"Yeah, I see! Now hurry up!" Usopp pointed at the rope tieing up the ship to the dock "This rope won't hold for much longer!"

"Nami-san, I'm back!" Sanji jumped on board followed by Luffy and Zoro.

"What took you so long!" Nami frantically shouted then began ordering them around "Usopp, cut the ship free! Quickly, everbody to their posts! We're setting sail immediately!" they readily complied hearing how urgent she sounded.

***

"Yahoo! The ship feels like it'll flip right over!" under the heavy rain Luffy was sitting on the ship's bow excitedly throwing his hands up in the air.

"The winds are blowing west to our advantage" Nami adressed them when they were far enough from the island "We were lucky and managed to catch the tailwind directly towards the entrance of the Grand line" she pointed to the distance "You see that light over there?"

"You mean that lighthouse?" asked Zoro seeing a tall shadowy building in the distance pouring light.

"It's known as the *Light of Guidance*. The entrance to the Grand line, is just ahead of that light" she answered then smiled at them "So what shall we do?"

"I know just the thing" came Sanji with an empty wooden barrel "Since we're about to enter the Grand Line, let's have a little launching ceremony to mark the importance of our voyage!"

Sanji set the barrel in between them on the deck and put his foot on its top "To find the All Blue!"

"D-don't you guys think that entering the Grand Line in the midst of such a storm is a bit..." Usopp was scared as he hugged the mast for safety "Guys!?" he was ignored as the rest understood Sanji's intention and followed him suit.

"To become the Pirate King! / To be the strongest swordsman! / To draw a map of the world!" Luffy, Zoro then Nami put their feet on top of the barrel next to Sanji and annouced their dreams.

Seeing everyone else make their pledge for the future, Usopp approached and hesitantly put his foot alongside them "T... T-to become a brave warrior of the seas!"

Sanji smiled as he made eye contact with Nami then looked at the rest 'I'll make sure everything goes differently this time around' he clenched his fists in determination.

*Crunch*

"Off to Grand Line we go!" They all simultaneously shouted and cruched the barrell under their feet.

"..." an awkward silence descended aftewards as they looked at each other.

"Well, let's go inside..." spoke Nami breaking the silence "I need to wear a rain coat and inspect the map" she headed to her room.

"Alright, I'll prepare some warm drinks" said Sanji as he headed to the kitchen followed by the rest.

Minutes later, Nami wearing a brand new blue rain coat she just bought from Logue Town entered the kitchen then spread a map on the kitchen table. She thanked Sanji as handed her a warm drink then started explaining the concept of Riverse Mountain, the entrance to the Grand Line, to her crewmates.

A close encounter later with Sea Kings, the giant ones expecially, after mistakingly entering the Calm Belt and rowing the ship back towards the East Blue waters, they finally reached the Red Line.

"That's a huge Mountain!" shouted Usopp over the storm pointing at the Red Line "I can't even see the top because of the clouds!"

"It's Huge!" exclaimed Luffy.

"We need to properly steer the ship!" ordered Nami "We'll soon reach Riverse Mountain and the sea currents will be getting stronger! If we don't, we'll fail to enter the waterway up the mountain and crash on it's side then get dragged down to the bottom of the sea, got it?"

"Leave to me Nami-san!" Sanji run to the helm. He grasped it and coated in Haki as he remembered it broke the last time around. He pulled at it causing the ship to veer a little to the right.

"That's good enough Sanji-kun!"

"I can't believe it..." Zoro was astonished using a bonoculars to see far away "The ocean is... Really going up a mountain..."

"I see it! It's a magic mountain!" Luffy was orver excited as usual.

"I told you it's not magic Luffy!" Nami was exasperated by him "Didn't you hear anything of what I said earlier!?"

Luffy rubbed his chin "So it's a mystery mountain then, right?"

Nami sighed tiredly "I shouldn't have expected you to understand..."

"I can't believe we're going up a mountain using a ship..." Zoro crossed his arms "I've never heard of such a thing before..."

"I've heard a bit..." said Sanji who came back on deck. He remembered the Germa sh.i.p.s that could literally scale up the side of a mountain.

"We starting to enter the waterway!" Usopp pointed at the front where the ship just entered the river going up the mountain.

The Going Merry passed by the gates built on the river's borders and started following the speeding water current going up.

The weather began to clear up the far up they sailed. Half an hour later the ship reached the summet of the mountain where four other rivers meet up. Three are similar to the one they just came from but the last flows down directly into the Grand Line.

"Yahoo!" Luffy hugged the bow of the Merry as it was blown in the air by the ascending water current then flopped right in the middle of the river flowing down "Full speed ahead! I think I can see the Grand Line!"

"BUOOOOOH!"

"Hm? Did you hear something just now?" said Zoro who stood by his side.

"Who cares! Woohoo!" Luffy was having too much fun as the trip down was much faster than before and minutes later they were almost to the bottom.

"BUOOOOOH!"

"What's that..." Usopp was using his new pair of goggles he got from Logue Town to see beyond the clouds down below "There is a mountain up ahead!"

"A mountain? That can't be! Once we pass the Twin Capes up ahead, we should reach the open sea" said Nami.

"BUOOOOOH!"

"That's not a mountain!" screamed Usopp "It's a whale! A huge a.s.s whale!"

The rest were alarmed as the ship was speeding ahead right into a collidion couse with the whale barring the exist like a giant black wall. Sanji was calmly smoking his cigarette as he knew what's going to happen next.

He watched as Luffy somehow slowed down the ship by firing the front cannon. The ship was saved from collision but its bow wasn't lucky enough and broke after craching into the whale. Luffy wasn't thrilled by his favorite seat getting destroyed and attacked it. He almost fell obverboard in anger but Sanji caught him at the last moment. The whale in response opened its giant maw and swallowed the ship whole.

They ended up in its stomach where they met an old man named Crocus living on a small island shaped boat. The boat had an iron hull to withstand the stomach acid. After an initially intense confrontation, he pointed them toward an escape route to the outside so their ship won't be dissolved in the stomach acid.

Right then, two mysterious people announced their presence and jumped from a side hatch built in the stomach attacking Crocus with bazookas. However the attack surprisingly did not damage him and they were quickly apprehended and tied up by Sanji and Zoro. They called thelselves Mr. 9 and Miss Wednesday

The old man thanked them for the help then led them outside the whale. He revealed to them that he is a doctor and the caretaker of the whale named Laboon as well as the overseer of the Twin Capes Lighthouse that guides sh.i.p.s coming down from Reverse Mountain into the Grand Line. He further explained that the two rogues that attacked him were from a nearby island that came to hunt Laboon in order to feed their town.

They reached outside to the open waters then docked on the Twin Cape. The strawhats disembarked and joined Crosus on land except for Sanji who stayed in the kitchen to cook the Blue-Finned Elephant Tuna for lunch.

After preparing many dishes, he came ouside where he found Luffy painting Laboon's heavily scarred head by his jolly roger 'It appears Crocus has finished telling them about Laboon' he set the table outside the lighthouse with plenty of food then called for the rest.

He looked to the side and found the two captives fidgeting nervously and sweating bullets. He approached them and crouched down in front of Miss Wednesday. He smiled at her then said "Are you alright Vi-I mean Miss Wednesday?"

Her face paled a little as she almost swore he was about to say her real name but she convinced herself it was her imagination "Please, you have to let us go" She pleaded "We're already long overdue in our mission to catch the whale. If we don't hurry back and report to our boss, we'll be in some serious trouble"

"Is the trouble perhaps has something to do with them" he pointed to the sky.

She followed his finger up and her face paled even further "Oh no, we're too late! It's Mr. 13 and Miss Friday!"

"It can't be... That's... The Unluckies!" shrieked Mr. 9 beside her as he saw a small brown-furred otter with white fur around his snout wearing a long-sleeved blue coat with purple dots as well as black sunglasses, riding a large, black-feathered vulture, with white feathers toward the neck, pink skin, a light yellow beak and wearing a yellow aviator cap dotted with red flowers, and black goggles.

The new arrivals swooped down fast towards the two captives.

"No wait! There's a perfectly good reason why we're late!" frantically yelled Mr. 9 followed by Miss Wednesday " W-we were just on our way back to make a report to the boss! We havend't betrayed the organization...!"

"Hey" came the calm voice of Sanji as he patted the head of the blue haired girl "Don't worry, nothing will happen to you"

At the same time Mr. 13 ignited a wire on a pink package and dropped it towards them "Be careful!" shouted Crocus the only other person who noticed the aproaching danger.

Sanji knew it was a bomb so he didn't waste time and jumped towards the falling package. He kicked it right back to Mr. 13 and Miss Friday where it exploded blowing them to small pieces.

Sanji landed back on the ground "Well... That was anti-climatic..."

"..." Mr. 9 and Miss Wednesday looked at the explosion in the air with their mouths hanging open.

"What happened!? A-are we under attack!?" yelled Usopp as he hid behind a protruding rock.

"Sanji-kun, are you alright!?" Nami and the rest came running to Sanji except for Luffy who wasn't perturbed and was preoccupied by gorging himself on food

"Ah, Nami-san! You're worried about me!" Sanji jump and enveloping her between his arms and started rubbing cheeks with her "I knew you loved me Nwami-swan!"

"Let go of me you bartard!" she kneed him on the stomach planting him on the ground "Hmph, I should never let my guard down around you. And here I was afraid you got hurt or something!"

"Ugh, I-I L-love you too N-Nami-san..." Sanji mumbled weakly as he clutched his stomach.

Zoro sternly looked at the two captives "Tell us what just happened"

"..." Mr. 9 swallowed and looked at his partner then back at Zoro "Your crewmate just ehm... killed two assassins sent after me"

"Assassins!? Just who are you guys?" said Usopp who approched the group after making sure there is no danger.

Mr. 9 cleared his throat and adopted a dignified look "I'm king- Owww!"

He was cut off by Nami pinching his cheek in irritation "Liar. Tell us the truth or we'll throw you to the ocean"

"We canno't say!" said Miss Wednesday as she prostrated herself in the ground "We'd rather not keep hush-hush about everything, but *mystery* is our organization motto. And so we absolutely canno't tell you anything more. Please let us go, your friend just saved our lives we'll make sure to return the favor in the future"

"Your names are Mr. 9 and Miss Wednesday right?" said Zoro as crouched in front of them. He rubbed his chin as he scrutinized them "Something about those names have been bugging me ever since I heard them... I feel like I heard it before... or not..."

"..." they started sweating under his scrutiny.

"Yummy!" came Luffy voice from behind them "Sanji, I want seconds!"

They turned around and found the table cleared clean from food by Luffy. They saw him patting his stomach while picking his teeth with a small fish bone.

"Aghhh, Luffy you bastard!" fumed Usopp as he drop kicked.

"You ate everything by yourself not leaving even the bones!" Zoro joined in and started punching him to the ground.

"Ahh! I'm sorry!" they ganged up on Luffy and beat him around until they heard a sudden breaking noise. They halted and turned around finding a smashed Log Pose on the ground. Cold sweat drenched their backs as they felt the incoming danger.

"YOU IDIOTS!!" Nami unleached her Bo Staff and started beating the crap out of them "That was the Log Pose that Crocus just gave me! Didn't you hear what he just explained about the hazardous nature of the Grand Line! It's our only way to navigate from island to island! Now we're stuck here because of you!"

She continued hammering on them for a while until she was satisfied then kicked them in the water "Go cool your heads in the sea!" she took a deep breath then looked at the old man "What do we do, Crocus! Our precious Log pose..."

"I'm sorry but that's the only one in my possession..."

"We're doomed..." her shoulders dropped at his answer.

"Why the long face Nami-san?" Sanji, who recovered and stood back up, aproached her and held her left hand. He fastened on her wrist a watch with a glass orb sitting on top, and a needle floating inside the middle of that orb suspended from the top by a thin piece of metal or wire "If you need a Log Pose, I have a spare"

"Wha!?" she was surprised as she looked at her new Log Pose "Where did you get this?"

He pointed at the two captives "I figured they must have a Log Pose of their own to help them sail around..."

She looked at them then sighed "... You're right. I should've thought of it too... We're saved, thank you Sanji-kun" she smiled at him.

"Happy to be of service my lady" he smiled back then led her to a chair "Wait just a second I'll serve you your lunch"

"But I thought Luffy ate everything?"

"I always leave some just in case Luffy happens"

"Hahaha, you talk about him like he's some kind of a natural disaster"

"Hahaha, he may as well be" he laughed as he headed back to the Going Merry.

Sanji came back with more food and placed them on the table where Nami was taking notes as she listened to Crocus sitting accross from her telling her about the chaotic weather in the Grand Line. Then he approached Mr. 9 and Miss wednesday and released them from their binds. He smiled as he held his hand towards Miss Wednesday "Your hand miss"

"..." she was bewildered at first but then smiled and grabbed his hand "Why thank you"

He helped her up then led her to an empty chair ignoring Mr. 9 "Don't be shy and help yourself to anything you like" she hesitantly nodded at him and sat down.

"What're you doing Sanji-kun?" Nami whispered at him as he sat to her left "They're dangerous. You shouldn't have freed them. You don't know what they could be plotting"

"Don't worry Nami-san. They know better than to start trouble with their only way out of this place" he pointed at her then at the Log Pose "Besides, I'm here to protect you. I won't let anything happen to you"

She looked at him for a moment then shrugged her shoulders and went back to eating her meal. She swallowed a spoonful "Mm, delicious! Your cooking keeps surprising me everytime Sanji-kun! I don't think I'll ever get enough of it!"

"You still haven't seen anything Nami-san" he winked at her as he gave her his best seductive smile "I plan to seduce your palate and make you unconsciously succ.u.mb to me through my food. They say the shortest road to a man's heart is his stomach but I think it's the same for a woman too"

She rewarded him with a smack to the head and ignored him. However he could see the redness of her cheeks as she dug in avoiding his gaze.

Meanwhile, Zoro came back ashore dragging Luffy from the water and followed by Usopp. They were super hungry so they joined the rest on the table to eat.

After lunch, Usopp started working on fixing the damage on the ship. It appears that Luffy broke the mast of the Going Merry and planted it on top of Laboon's head when Sanji was cooking. So he had to patch it back together alongside the broken bow of the ship.

Meanwhile, Nami went to her room to change her clothes and study the map for our next destination, Zoro chose to take a nap as he has nothing else to do and Luffy was playing on the back of Laboon.

Mr. 9 and Miss Wednesday somehow convinced Luffy to give them a ride to their home Whiskey Peak, the only city on Cactus Island.

Sanji washed the dishes and was now sitting on top of the lighthouse gazing at the sea enjoying a smoke.

"What are you young man?" said Crocus as he came and sat beside him "You may have fooled everyone else on your crew but there is something very wrong about you"

"Oh..." Sanji took a drag from his cigarette and slowly exhaled the smoke "I don't know what you're talking about"

"As a doctor, my Observation Haki is very attuned to blood and life energies. I sensed you the moment you entered the Grand Line and never have I sensed anything as dreadful as you before. You reek unnaturally of blood and fire... So wha're you?"

"Just a chef on a pirate ship..." Sanji continued to calmly smoke his cigarette.

"A chef you say..." said Crocus as he thought about something "I travelled all around the Grand Line, and tried all kinds of exquisite foods even the 99 secret recepies of the Kamabakka kingdom.... However, I've never eaten anything that come close to what you cooked earlier and I'm not talking about the taste... There's something I felt in the food... It was somewhat familiar to me but I can't exactly put my hands on it... Nevertheless it's something which should be impossible..." he deeply looked at Sanji "So what're you?"

"You're the first person to notice anything different about my food so far" Sanji smirked as he exhaled a plume of smoke "You truly can't underestemate any of the former Pirate King's crew members..."

"..." Crocus remained silent as his lips thinned.

"As for what I am?" Sanji thought about his past life "I don't know, but if I had to chose something I'd say a devil, a Sea Devil..."
