One Piece: Sea Devil Sanji

Chapter 9 - Surprise

Celebrations continued for three days straight around the island. But eventually life returned to normal right after. They picked themselves up and started to work on rebuilding their community.

Sanji left Arlong Park and relocated back to the Going Merry where he helped Nami plant three tangerine trees, taken from Bellemere's plantation, on the deck above the kitchen. She also commissioned a carpenter from her village named Teru to install a bar in the women's room so she could enjoy a late night drink when she she's working on her maps.

On the fifth day since they docked on the island, she visited the doctor of her village, Dr. Nako, to remove her Arlong insignia tattoo, but he couldn't erase it entirely, leaving a visible scar; caused by the indelible nature of the tattoo. Nami chose to cover it up by getting a new tattoo which was a cross between a tangerine and a pinwheel, in honor of both Bellmere and Genzo. Nojiko also gave her a gold bracelet as a keepsake, which Nami began to wear regularly on her left wrist ever since.

On the sixth day, Sanji was chatting with Nami when they suddenly heard loud yelling coming from the forest right outside the village. The turned around and spotted a green boat flying right above the trees.

"Yahoo!!! It's like we're really flying!"

"That's because we were sent flying, you idiot!!"

"We're gonna faaaaaallll!!!"

The boat landed harshly bringing down many trees but it didn't stop and continued to rapidly slide on the ground and some rice fields on its path until it crashed on a cliff side producing a giant cloud of dirt.

"Well... It looks like the idiots finally arrived" Sanji looked at Nami "Let go and greet them"

"Why can't they not cause a ruckus and dock like normal people" Nami walked up behind him and sighed tiredly "I'm sure the people will think someone is attacking the island at this rate"

At the crash site Luffy and the rest were picking themselves up from the remains of the broken boat.

"Ha ha ha!" laughed Luffy as he put on his fallen straw hat "That was fun!"

"You idiot!" Usopp jumped on Luffy shocking the life out of him "Are you trying to kill us!"

That's the scene that Sanji arrived in "The hell do you lot think you're doing!?"

"Oh, Sanji!" Luffy wiggled out of Usopp's grasp "We've obviously come to get Nami back. Haven't you found her yet?Where is-" at that moment Nami came out from behind Sanji "Ah, Nami!"

"Hello guys..." Nami hesitantly greeted them.

"Nami, you thief!" Usopp forgot about Luffy and shouted while pointing at her "How can you double cross us like that!? I thought we were friends! Where's the Merry!?"

"Shut your shitty mouth Usopp before I shove my foot up your ass! Don't talk to her like that!" Sanji sent him a glare that scared him shitless but he stood his ground with shaky legs "But she betrayed us and left us behind! She's not one of us anymore, how can you defend her!?" Sanji butted heads with him causing his long nose to bend upwards "It's not up to you shitty bastard whether she is or not! That's only the captain's decision to make! Now don't b.u.t.t in and complicate things, if you have any questions they'll be answered later!" Usopp still didn't back down "B-but she took our ship! That ship's important to us!"

Zoro who was helped out of the wreckage by his two followers Yosaku and Johnny patted Usopp on his shoulder "I hate to agree with the ero-cook but he is right. It's up to Luffy wether she's still our comrade or not. Let them talk it out between themselves"

Seeing Zoro not give his opinion on the matter, Usopp finally relented. He followed Zoro to the side and sat down under a tree. Sanji lit a cigarette and returned to Nami who had a sad expression. He squeezed her hand and gave her an encouraging smile as he gestured at Luffy with his head. She smiled weakly back at him and nodded.

Nami looked at Luffy "So... Um, I want to say that-"

"Are we still crewmates?" Luffy cut her off.

"Eh!?" Nami was taken off guard by his abrupt question "Well, yes... I don't know... Do you still want me to?"

"Will you still be my navigator?"

"Yes... If you're ok with me"

"Yeeessss!!" Luffy happily yelled then breathed a sigh of relief "Phew, I was afraid you wanted to leave the crew!"

"So... you're not angry with me?" she didn't expect that kind of reaction from him.

"Eh? why?"

"You know, for running away with the ship?"

"Oh! Do you still have the ship?"

"Yes..."

"Then it's alright, shi shi shi!" Nami and the rest sweat dropped at how nochalant he is.

"Hey, Luffy! You can't let her back like that!" Usopp stood back up and grabbed Luffy by his collar shaking him back and forth.

Luffy ignored him and continued to laugh.

"I don't care either way but I'll accept Luffy's decision" Zoro stood up and crossed his arms as he faced Nami "But if it was up to me I won't chase after you. No good will ever come from a thief. So you better not betray us again or that'll be it for you..." he partly unsheathed his sword to emphasize his words.

"Like I'd let you do as you please marimo!" Zoro blocked a kick from Sanji with his sword. The attack was a bit strong for him and was pushed back causing his Mihawk wounds to reopen. Blood seeped from his bandages as he crouched down clutching his c.h.e.s.t in pain "Does a swordsman hurt ladies, you third rate swordsman?"

"Bro/Brother" Yosaku and Johnny worriedly run to Zoro.

Zoro ignored their help and glared at Sanji "Ugh, watch your mouth, punk! This has nothing to do with you so don't b.u.t.t in or your head will go flying!"

"I'd like to see you try in your crippled state" Sanji puffed from his smoke as he grabbed him by the scruff of his shirt. He dragged him towards the village ignoring his indignant yells as he decided to take him see a doctor "That's a serious wound you got there. I bet you shoddily patched it up on your own like a fool. Are you trying to kill yourself or what?"

"It's just a flesh wound so let me go!" he tried to free himself from Sanji's grip but failed miserably.

Sanji turned to his captain "Hey Luffy! I'll be taking the moss-head to see a doctor. In that regard we need a doctor on the ship so you better promise me to find a good one to join us later"

"A doctor? That's a good idea! I promise then" he scratched his chin in thought "But we'd need a musician first"

"Eh!? But why?" asked Usopp.

"Tsk, I can't believe you're this stupid Usopp" Luffy shook his head at him then continued sagely "It's because we're pirates and pirates got to sing, you know"

"Oh, you're absolutely right!" Usopp nodded with him in understanding.

Sanji sighed at their stupidity and looked at Nami who walked awkwardly at his side. Even though Luffy allowed her back to the crew he knew she still felt bad especially towards Usopp, who is still clearly mad at her as she knew how much the Going Merry meant to him. He pushed her towards Usopp "Usopp, go with Nami-san to the ship. She'll show you its new modifications. Meanwhile, I'll take the rest and show them around town"

"What? Modifications! Nami, what did you-" Usopp swallowed his words when Sanji sent him a glare that promised pain if he said anything else "*cough* I mean that sounds good"

Nami was surprised by Sanji's action but immediately understood his true intention and looked at him in gratitude. She turned to Usopp and told him to follow her.

Sanji left Zoro in the hospital and guided the rest around the town. He introduced them to Nojiko and Genzo and showed them Nami's home and Arlong Park.

When the evening sun was casting a long shadow they picked up Zoro, who refused the doctor's advice to stay bedridden, on their way and headed towards the ship. They found Nami and Usopp around the kitchen table happily talking to each other. Sanji knew then that they've sorted their issues and everything is back to normal between the two of them.

Luffy decided to hold a party in celebration of Nami's return to the crew so Sanji quickly cooked up a feast. The festivities on the Going Merry continued until late at night where the crew ended up passed out in the kitchen from too much drinking.

Tomorrow morning they woke up groggily from hungover. After eating breakfast they discussed their next move and decided to leave today towards the Grand Line. As for Yosaku and Johnny they decided to stay on this island and settle down after Nami returned their stolen treasure. They left after wishing the strawhats good luck on their future adventures.

Nami told them to wait for her on the ship as she has something to take care of back at her house.

The villagers heard that Nami was leaving today with Sanji and the rest so they congregated at the docks to bid her goodbye.

A couple of hours later, Nami came running on her way out of the village shouting for the crew to set sail. Earlier she left for Nojiko's house where she left her entire treasure that she amassed through the years for the village. She whished to say goodbye to no one as she run right through the villagers and leaped unto the Going Merry after stealing all their wallets.

Seeing her actions, Sanji cheered for her while Luffy laughed, Zoro said she might betray them again and Usopp sighed saying she had not changed.

The villagers were stunned at first then began calling her a thief and shouting for her to return their money. The shouting continued but it gradually changed to heart felt goodbyes and whishing her safe travels.

"Goodbye everyone!" Nami happily waved at them "I'll be off now!"

Three days Later, the strawhats arrived at the Polestar islands. They docked on the famous Loguetown, the last stop in East Blue before the Grand Line. The city covers nearly the entire island it is on. It's is otherwise known as the town of the beginning and the end as it's the birth place of the pirate king Gol D. Roger and his execution spot.

"I'm going to see the execution stand!" Luffy immediate run to the center of the town very eager to see the famous landmark.

"I'm going to go look for some equipement to buy" Usopp left right next.

"Zoro, you earlier told me you want to buy new swords" Nami smirked evily at him "I know you're broke so I'll happily lend you some money. At 300% interest, that is"

"Witch...!" Zoro grumbled but evently took the money and left as he needed two new swords to replace those that Mihawk broke.

"What about you Sanji-kun? Do you need some money too?" she addressed the cook but he didn't answer. She turned to him and found him sporting a solemn look. She walked up to him and patted his shoulder "Sanji-kun?"

"Ah, Nami-san!" he regained his senses as she touched him "I'm sorry. Were you talking to me?"

"What's wrong...?" she worriedly looked at him "Are you concerned that I'll charge you as much as Zoro?"

"Eh!? What're you talking about?" he was confused by her.

"Well... You ignored me when I asked you if you needed money so I thought you're mad at me that I'll try to swindle you just like Zoro... I can lend you money at just 50% interest if you want..."

"Oh... Ha ha ha Nami-san, I love too much to ever be mad at you! This town is just so big. I was just distracted thinking of how much good ingredients and food I can get here"

"Are you sure?" she looked at him not entirely believing him.

"Well... How about a kiss to-" Nami punched him to the ground before he continued.

"Pervert!" She huffed at him "Is that all you think about in that blonde head of yours!"

"Love is a hurricane, Nwami-swan!" he swirled back up with heart eyes and a smoking bump on his head "I can't help it!"

"Yeah, yeah... Anyway, If you don't need any money I'll be going. I have some shopping to do" She turned around and waved at him as she left "See you later"

"Later" Sanji happily waved back at her. Once she disappeared in the sea of people his smile receded. He chewed on his cigarette and put his hands on his pockets as he walked in certain direction 'What're they doing here...? Were they also here the first time we arrived in Logue Town or is this a result of something I unkowingly changed...?'

Sanji developped a habit of always scanning his surrounding with his Observation Haki. Earlier he sensed many very familiar auras during one of his regular scans. He recognized Smoker and Tashigi of the marines, Bartolomeo the futute captain of the second ship of the Strawhat's grand fleet, Buggy the Clown and Alvida. They are of decent strength at the moment but they are too weak to give him any concern.

The last two on the other hand are another story altogether. One of them would give him some trouble in a battle but he's sure he can beat him. The last one though completely outclasses him. His aura is the second strongest he has ever felt in his combined two lifetimes.

'We were allies in my past life so they shouldn't be enemies. But I shouldn't take my guard down around them' Sanji turned a corner and found a tavern called the Singing Crow. He pushed the door open and entered inside. He grabbed an empty chair and walked where he spotted two cloaked figures and sat down at their table "I hope you don't mind if I joined you"

"... What're you doing young man!?" said one of them clearly a man by his deep voice.

"I just couldn't help myself but come and say hello when I sensed such a famous person is in town"

"Oh!? So you can sense me?"

"It's not like you're masking your presence per se" Sanji too a puff of his cigarette "This may be the weakest sea but you shouldn't be this careless. You don't know who you may attract with such a beacon of an aura, Monkey D. Dragon"

"Yours is not too shabby too" the leader of the revolutionary army leaned forward exposing his tattoed face "If you were in my organization I'd say you'd be the second or even the strongest after myself"

"You praise him too high sir" spoke the second cloaked figure in a feminine voice. She is a tall, slim beautiful woman with short, purple hair in a bob cut. Her eyes are covered by a pair of black-framed sunglasses with red lenses. She also wears red lipstick and smoking a cigarette "He doesn't appear that impressive to me"

"Belo Betty, the famous commander of the East Army in the Revolutionary Army" Sanji stood up and bend down as he kissed her hand "It's a p.l.e.a.s.u.r.e to meet such a gorgeous lady"

"You have some manners at least" she exhaled smoke from her red lips "It appears you know who we are but I know of you too"

"Oh...? I didn't know I was that well known" he returned to his seat.

"I make my business to know about all the interesting people in East Blue" she reached insde her red jacket and pulled a red book. She opened it to a specific page and showed it to her leader.

"Mmm, this is surprising..." Monkey D. Dragon quickly read several pages "A fighting cook that worked under the former pirate Red Leg Zeff on his floating restaurant the Baratie where you made a reputaion with your delicious food, combat prowess and ruthlessness... Recently joined the strawhats an upstart pirate crew... But more importatly the runaway prince of the Germa Kingdom... You're quite the complex individual prince Vinsmoke Sanji"

Sanji wasn't surprised they knew his true identity "I'm impressed by your organization's intelligence gathering skills"

"Information is power young man. We need every advantage we can get to win our war for freedom so we try to gather as much information about anything of importance as we can" he handed the book back to Belo Betty "So what can I help you with?"

"Nothing really. I just wanted to greet my captain's father..." Dragon lost his smile and regarded Sanji with a hard stare. Sanji lifted his hands up to calm the man down "It's not like it's that hard of a secret to figue out. You're known around the world as Dragon of the Revolution but anyone with the knowledge of your full name could easily make out the connection. You two possess the same family name afterall"

The man kept staring at him for a minute then sighed "... It's my old man fault. I wanted otherwise but he wanted him to grow up to be a marine and take up his name. Although it appears fate has other plans for him... He's a pirate now and sooner or later the world will know of him"

"Are you going to stop him?" Sanji asked worriedly.

Dragon grinned hearing his question "There is no reason to stop a man from setting sail. It's his d.e.s.i.r.e so I have no right to stop him"

"That's good to hear" Sanji relaxed his tense shoulders "I'd have hated to come to blows with you"

"Oh... So you were prepared for a fight If I decided otherwise" Dragon's tone was filled with amus.e.m.e.nt "You do realise you have no chance against me alone not counting Betty here is by my side"

"That may be true" Sanji smirked at him "But I'am confident I can slow you down enough for them to escape the island"

"Ha ha ha, my son has chosen a good comrade. I like you young man, you have courage"

"Hmph, I would say foolish instead" commented Belo Betty then she turned to Dragon "Sir, I think it's about time that we leave this place"

"Mmm..." he pulled out a watch "You're right" He stood up followed by her then looked at Sanji "It has been interesting meeting you prince Sanji but we've things to do"

Sanji stood up "I've to get back to my crew too" he shook their hands.

Dragon patted him on the shoulder "Take care of my son"

"I'll do my best" Sanji said as he watched them leaving but he remembered something "Wait...! There is something I need to tell you"

They halted on their way out and turned to him. He walked up to them "Your second in command, the chief of staff, is called Sabo right?"

"Yes... Why?"

"Well, Luffy once told me that he had two sworn brothers from his home island. A still alive one named Portgas D. Ace. Yeah, the same second commander of the Whitebeard pirates. And the second is a dead one called Sabo..." a look of surprise appeared on their faces "A funny coincidence don't you think?"

"You don't mean..." Belo Betty was astonished.

"Hahaha that's funny indeed" Dragon laughed "Now I want to see Sabo's face when he hears this"

"Well, that's all I wanted to say. I'll be taking my leave now" The two revolutionaries followed Sanji outside the tavern. Sanji nodded at them and separated from them as they walked in a diferent direction.
