Pokemon: The Wandering Guardian

Chapter 12 - A Fiery Situation

2 days later

At the entrance of Viridian City

A young man around 5'5 in that is fairly well built and sharp features is walking towards the middle of the city while mumbling to himself.

"Every time I arrive in a city It reminds me of how much I don't like cities in general. They have too many people, everything is rushed and on top of that the noise." "I guess I should head to the Pokemon Center"

Walking for a couple minutes he sees many different wild Pokemon such as Rattata and Pidgy in the various alleyways while various trainers' Pokemon and pets can be seen on the streets mixing in with the people.

It would be a lot more crowded if the leagues didn't put rules into place so cities could not be as chaotic. Civilian trainers are allowed to have 2 Pokemon on them, League trainers can have at most 8 Pokemon. While the corporate trainers who sell or trade live Pokemon have to have a specific registration with the league's approval varying on the quantity of Pokemon.

I head to the Pokemon center which tends to be at the center of each town. Most of them are built relatively near the gyms but since Viridian doesn't have an official gym registered to the Indigo League the Center would be near the police station.

I walk for a while and come to a 3 story building with a red roof and a poke ball symbol out front. I push open the doors and am greeted with the smell of antiseptic and a large open lobby with many Pokemon and people.

On the far side of the room is an extremely large counter with a couple of nurses and Pokemon behind it. The head nurse/receptionist has extremely long pink hair a white apron and a gentle face. She has the defining features of the Joy family who is commissioned to run most of the Pokemon centers in the Large cities over many regions due to their medical expertise and how easily they connect to their partner Pokemon Chancy.

Since I do not have any Pokemon to get healed I hurriedly weave through the crowd head to the stairs on the side of the room that leads to the second floor.

The second floor is where there is an official Store where trainers can buy simple trainer items and some common Pokemon. Trainers can trade registered pokemon for League credits at a discounted price. The Pokemon is then given a thorough check-up and then redistributed to other league stores and facilities generally marking the Pokemon at a higher price. This was done to help fight against the various Black Markets which used poaching methods and often sold mistreated Pokemon.

First time trainers who go through primary education and do not live near cities with sponsored Labs are given a voucher and a small number of credits as an entry trainer package. The voucher on their accounts allows them a single entry into a starter lottery which is constantly updated with young regional pokemon.

Along with the store, There is also a common area with Phones, PCs and a Trading machine for trainers to use with each other. On the opposite side of the store is a counter where administration clerks post regional information and tasks for the trainers from various organizations.

After Lan made his way up the stairs he checked in at the Admin counter. He was ushered to sit down in a small waiting room.

Soon a woman in a police uniform abruptly opened the door. She has blue curly hair that was still bouncing even when she was bending gasping for breaths.

She asks " Are you here for the emergency task?"

Lan nodded his head while yelling in his head 'great the Professor didn't mention it was this urgent… now I am in for it'

???: "My Name is Amanda Jenny you can call me Officer Jenny. Can you follow me and we will talk about the task while we go? The task has been getting more severe by the day."

Lan: "Okay lead the way"

They both quickly walk out of the Pokemon Center and get onto Officer Jenny's Motorcycle and cart and Jenny drives them toward their destination.

Arriving at a League restricted Breeding ground. Officer Jenny and Lan quickly make their way to a large warehouse that housed an extremely large yard where there seems to be an obstacle course set up.

Jenny explains "As I said on the way over here all of the newly certified Officers come here and get their new Pokemon which becomes the officers' partner while on the force. This year's batch of cadets where assigned Growlithes like usual. Everything was fine for the first week then a couple days ago swarms of Bedrill came and attacked us during our drills.

We eventually fended them off and our Growlithes and Arcanines were badly poisoned. The Nurse Joys who work for this facility helped out by trying to treat the Pokemon but some of them were poisoned with something that our current antidotes can't treat. The sick pokemon are getting worse by the day.

To get an antidote we need to draw the blood of one of the younglings since they were afflicted with a seeming worse poison that is targeting their immune system. Our problem is that the young Growlithes are being protected by the older Arcanines who are overprotective of the young ones not allowing the nurses or officers near the ones for treatment.

They seem skeptical of us now since we were originally the ones that asked them for the young Growlithes but the new officers couldn't protect them. That's why we need Professor Oak's help"

Lan "…"

Jenny looked with a pleading look and puppy dog eyes pleading for help.

Lan "… I'll help but don't get your expectations up" as he started to follow behind Jenny again.

....

Entering into the warehouse I saw a large group of small orange and black canine-like Pokemon in the back corner surrounded by many massive Pokemon that were radiating fury at the officers and breeders near them.

I take a look at the warehouse which contained many different Pins separated by various gates along with a very large open pen in the back where the commotion was taking place. Looking around and all the stalls seem to be empty.

I slowly approach the corner of the facility where the commotion was taking place. Making my way in front of the crowd I see a disturbing scene. Many young pokemon all laying in a group suffering and whimpering.

I quickly take out my Pokedex that Professor Oak gave me and opened it up and pointed it at the Pokemon.

Beep boop bob Beep…..

A highly mechanized voice spoke

....

Growlithe

The Puppy Pokemon

While it's quite friendly towards humans once it's grown used to them, in the wild, it must be quite fierce to defend its territory.

....

Arcanine

The evolved form Growlithe

Some consider it as a legendary Pokemon. Legends tell of it's fighting alongside a general and conquering a whole country. They are very protective and loyal to their trainers and Pack

....

From the sudden loud noise of a voice, all the eyes of the officers and Pokemon were focused on me.

Shrugging my shoulders and inwardly cursing I say "Sorry first time using it and I haven't seen this these pokemon before"

Everyone looks at me weirdly but that is not what they had on their minds. They were trying to figure out what sort of device that I had. Suddenly Officer Jenny puts a hand on my shoulder and introduces me saying " This is Researcher Birch he was sent by Prof. Oak to help with our situation".

Everyone nodded and returned to their little standoff but it seemed the atmosphere was not as tense as before.

Suddenly my c.h.e.s.t started to heat up. It became stronger by the second and started to pulse. It felt as if my tattoo on my c.h.e.s.t was burning my skin with a thousand needles. I clenched my fist over my c.h.e.s.t trying to desperately relieve the pain. But no one noticed my odd behavior.

The pain stopped...

BOOM!!!
