RWBY: The Phantom Of Remnant

Chapter 75 - Bandit Raid Part 2

Night quickly arrived. Magna and June blended into the nightlife of the small village the tribe was raiding. Though Magna never expected how active the village was.

However, it was to be expected. This village had a medium sized dust mine just 5 minutes away.

There was only one upside to this operatuon. Apparently, Weiss's father owned this mine. Raven had made it clear who they were stealing from as she wanted to stay far away from any mines affiliated with the Schnee dust company.

It wasn't that she was afraid but she knew that stealing from them would bring her tribe unnecessary attention.

Anyway, back to Magna and June. Their role was simple. They needed to find the villages central power unit and break it. From there, the tribe had an hour before auxillary power came on line.

Obviously, Magna questioned why it would take that long but Vernal told him the village hasn't adapted to the latest technology.

Jacques apparently feared his 'workers' rebelling if they had the means to, so the village was quite… behind in the times. They even had to wash their clothes by hand because there were no washing machines.

Even though they lacked technology, the villagers were surprisingly happy. Sure, they didn't have TV's or scrolls but they made up for it with other means.

The villagers were rather sociable, everyone talking to someone about something. Men flirted with woman, house wives gossiped amoung other house wives. This village was actually a rather nice place.

However, the one thing that worried Magna was June. Ever since they arrived, June hasn't said a word.

Magna asked her what was wrong, multiple times in fact, but she stayed silent.

As they came across the only stone building throughout the village, June suddenly trembled as she said, "Magna… after this, can we leave?"

"Do you mean…" Said Magna as his eyes widened in surprise.

June nodded, "After this, I owe Raven and her tribe nothing. When we're finished here, please help me escape."

A wide smile appeared on Magna's face as he burst into a bout of hearty laughter, "Finally! Don't worry June, no one, not even Raven, can stop me if I want to leave."

June gave Magna a small smile before turning back to the building. Sneaking inside wasn't very hard for the pair, considering no one was guarding the place.

It only took them a few minutes to find the main power switch. June took a deep breath as she pulled the switch down.

She knew that once the power was gone, the others from the Branwen tribe would swoop in like vultures, picking apart the village for anything valuable before leaving.

However, she needed to do this, no matter how much she didn't want to. Her stubbornness made her absolutely refuse to leave without paying Raven back for saving her.

Magna could see the tears in her eyes as the power turned off. Screams resounded outside the building while Magna softly comforted the young maiden.

He sighed as he conjured a small ball of water and doused the controls, short circuiting everything. Just as people burst through the doors, Magna wrapped June up in his arms as they fell into the shadows.

Thanks to it being night, Magna could basically travel anywhere he wanted, undetected and unhindered. He wanted to leave, get as far as he could while it was dark but he couldn't.

June told him that she left something back at the tribe. When he asked what could be so important that they had to go back, she told him it was the only thing she had left to remember her family, a locket with a picture of her family.

Outside, Magna could hear the screams of panic as well as the sickening laughter of the Branwen bandits. He and June quickly made there way back to Raven as she was the only one who could bring them back to the camp.

However, once they arrived infront of her, Raven glared at them as she growled, "What are you two doing back so early?"

Magna calmly replied, "We finished what you asked and wish to go back. June can't use her 'semblance' properly and I refuse to steal for bandits."

Since there were people around them, Magna decided to hide the fact that magic was real. Raven, however, was livid.

Her crimson eyes bore into the pair as she roared, "Get back out there and help!!! I don't care if you don't want to steal or if she can't help, you two are apart of the Branwen tribe!!!"

Before Magna could snap back, June grabbed his hand. He turned towards her, a confused look on his face, as she slowly shook her head. Magna took a few deep breaths before sighing, "…Fine."

Magna pulled June into his c.h.e.s.t before returning to the world of shadows. Obviously, Magna was against stealing but June didn't really mind. She didn't have a home anymore, nor did she have a family so she took what she needed to survive.

As the pair sped across the village, Magna sneakily knocked out some of the more… brutal bandits. Some of them tried to take advantage of the situation, pushing down unsuspecting woman and trying to ravish them.

Magna wasn't having any of that as he hit them alot harder than necessary. He even sent some of them flying since they laughed when the woman underneath them burst into tears and begged for freedom.

After an hour, Raven ordered everyone to retreat. The auxiliary power was about to come online so she made everyone gather up. Magna and June softly chuckled when they saw that some of the bandits had large bumps and bruises on their heads.

Raven raised an eyebrow at her injured subordinates but shrugged as she opened a portal, "Alright you lot, everyone in! Make sure that we leave no trails behind."

Magna didn't hesitate as he grabbed June and zipped into the portal, carrying their 'spoils'. Raven glared at him as he flew past her but Magna didn't even spare her a glance.

As he and June appeared on the other side, a few bandits came over to log the stolen goods. Magna quickly gave them what they wanted and dashed to June's tent with June in tow.

The men sniggered in a perverted manor as one of the bandits said, "Wonder what's got him in a rush?"

Inside June's tent, June quickly put together a small bag of clothes and grabbed the small silver locket that sat beside her sleeping bag.

She also packed a small amount of rations. Once she was sure she had everything, she smiled towards Magna and nodded.

Magna quickly grabbed her and slipped into the shadows. Since it was still nighttime, no one noticed the shadowy blur silently leaving the camp grounds.
