"Lady Lingxi!.... Lady Lingxi.....open the door..."

The soft knocking eventually started to turn into successive ramming. Yanyan kept on pounding on Mu Lingxi's door but she did not get any answer from her young miss.

She saw her young miss returned to her room this morning. She seems to be in a bad mood so Yanyan decided not to disturb her.

Until lunchtime came. Just like usual, she was tasked to bring the meal to her young miss' room. Yet when she asked for permission to came in, no one responded.

Which is very uncommon to her young miss, who was definitely a food lover. Every time she will bring food to her room, her young miss never fails to greet her with much enthusiasm.

It's either the black cat who will first greet her at the window or her young miss who would personally open the door for her to come in. As if she was inviting a friend instead of a maid.

But this time is different. She had been knocking on the door for quite some time now but still, no one was responding to her call. There is no movement coming inside the room.

Yanyan's constant knocking on the door of Mu Lingxi's room causes a ruckus to the servants passing by. Not too long later, the head of the Mu clan arrived.

"What's happening in here????"

Mu Ruochen questioned the maid who was pounding hard on his granddaughter's door when he arrived at the small terrace leading to the only door where Yanyan was busy calling Mu Lingxi's name.

Yanyan was petrified when she heard the familiar voice of their head clan.

The maid's sickly pallor got worst as her face turned ashen. With a quivering voice, she asked,

"H-he-head clan???????!"

She almost peed on her skirt as her legs almost turned into jelly and losses its strength.

Yanyan slumped on the floor and started bawling. She was too afraid to see their head clan since she was suspecting that her young miss was up to no good.

"I-- I-- I was about to bring young miss her meal for today but she was not opening the door, and there is no movement inside."

"TSK! Move aside! What are you crying for???"

Mu Ruochen kicked Yanyan away. He was too irritated to see her face crying like that.

His harsh treatment shocked everyone watching the commotion.

Mu Ruochen was known for being gentle and a doting grandfather. But behind those sheep's skin, his wolf-like attitude was hidden. Only those servants working under the Mu clan for a long time now was privy to this matter.

Only a few knew this temper of him, and Yanyan was not an exception. She had been working on the Mu clan residence for as long as she could remember. She basically grew up as one of the clan's loyal servants, just like her parents.

The memory of her mother being pummeled on the verge of death was still fresh on her mind as if it just happened yesterday. She was still suffering from nightmares every night because of that incident.

Yanyan was not sure what exactly happened that night. But one thing she knew, was that her mother was accused of helping someone escaped.

Her mom's dying wish was haunting her all throughout her life. She could still hear her whenever she tried to close her eyes.

"You have to stay here and take good care of our young miss. Make sure that-----"

Her mother said before she closed her eyes, never to open again. The hand of the mother that was trying to reach her daughter's face for the last time fall on the ground. Motionless. Lifeless.

Mu Ruochen was not around that time, or maybe she just cannot remember if he was there or not. But Yanyan was certain that Mu Ruochen knew all about that beating and pummeling that night but he never interfered nor justify her mother's death.

So she grew up fearing the head of the Mu clan. Deep in her heart, she knew that the smiling and gentle face of their head clan was too good to be true.

After all, how could a kind-hearted man sustain power and rise above the ranks and establish a strong foothold for a long time???

Many was deceived by Mu Ruochen's facade but Yanyan knew him all along. She knew he was a sham.
