Targaryen Who Turned Dragon

Chapter 8 - Pirate Rebellion

Although most pirates supported and followed Aerion's rule, there was a faction called "Freedom" who did not. This faction was weak at first but it grew as time passed. Eventually, it consisted of 1,000 pirates which were about 40% of pirates in the Stepstones. The faction grew so much because the pirates wanted to do... well, pirate things. Aerion's new rules prohibited the pirates from doing what they loved while the Freedom faction promised to give back absolute freedom. And so, more pirates joined the faction. To them, Aerion is seen as a soft king and an abomination to the title Pirate King. The Freedom faction was centred in the southern islands... as far from Aerion as possible.

"Where shall we go, Your Grace?"

"Tsk, tsk, tsk. On this ship I am your captain, not a King...remember that."

"Very well, Captain... where are we going?"

"We are going to Pentos, I wish to see my family again. Then we shall go on a rampage in the Narrow Sea and after that, we will return to Bloodstone."

"Sounds like a plan."

I looked around with my spyglass... something was off.

Nine sh.i.p.s... a blockade? But they had the flag of the Stepstones, they were my sh.i.p.s. I didn't order a blockade. I looked even closer and there were sh.i.p.s behind them... the Lannister envoy and a few other Westerosi sh.i.p.s! Those pirates are conspiring with my enemies, damn those traitorous dogs.

"Robb, Jon take a look at this..."

I gave them the spyglass and they too looked shocked.

"Captain... this isn't looking good, we should retreat to Bloodstone."

Jon suggested but Robb disagreed.

"They probably are well prepared for that... nowhere in Stepstones is safe."

"I'll take that risk. We're returning to Bloodstone."

"As you wish, my Lord."

I give the order for the sh.i.p.s to turn back to Bloodstone. We return in half an hour. The enemy sh.i.p.s were trailing behind but we still have enough time to rally the army in Bloodstone and some nearby islands.

"Why have you returned so soon?"

A rushing Duncan asked.

"Good question. The rebels have united with Westerosi sh.i.p.s and their forces are coming here as we speak."

Duncan shook his head.

"We wouldn't be having this conversation if you followed my advice."

"Right, I should have dealt with the rebels a long time ago... when they were insignificant. I will learn from my mistake."

"It's good to learn from mistakes... but before that, we must deal with this fleet of theirs."

"I agree, the rebels will regret awakening the Dragon."

Do we face them on land or sea? Personally, I prefer sea combat as I have no experience in land battles... I can't even ride a damn horse!

I rally up the local garrison which rounds up to a good five hundred men, it's good enough. Half of them were pirates while the other half were organised soldiers. We gathered ten galleys, enough for the army.

"The men are ready... what are your next orders, My Lord?"

I took out my spyglass and looked around. Then I replied to Duncan.

"We shall meet them at the sea."

~

The rebels were in clear sight and we outnumbered them by quite a bit, victory was almost certain. Though they have more sh.i.p.s, they have fewer men overall. I left some-fifty men at Bloodstone just in case, apart from that the entire garrison was here.

"They actually think they can win...those rebels are foolish."

"It may not be that simple, Jon. Freedom wouldn't waste this many rebels... unless there was something more valuable to gain. I think we should retreat to Bloodstone, Captain."

"Damn you, Robb, you always spoil the good things in life."

"It is sometimes good to think... Jon."

"There also a thing called over thinking..."

"There is a thing called careless, J-"

"Cut it out, the both of you. Robb may be correct, this rebel force may be a distraction and maybe Freedom has their eyes on something more valuable... wait. There are Westerosi and Lannister sh.i.p.s supporting the rebels, yes? Doesn't that mean Tywin is... somehow involved? What is the most valuable thing in Bloodstone...?"

"The treasury?"

Jon answered. I shook my head.

"No, The King of the Bloody Seven Kingdoms! If Robb's suspicions are correct... we have lost our most valuable prisoner."

"Do we return?"

"Another force of rebels has most likely smuggled Robert out of Bloodstone by now, in other words, it is too late for that. We shall stay and slay these rebels first."

"Tch, all that thinking for nothing, Robb."

"You wouldn't have thought of this force as a decoy in a million years."

"Whatever you say, Robb the scholar."

The chemistry between Robb and Jon is very interesting. Still, I've lost this battle. What can I gain from the rebel sc.u.m that is more valuable than a king? That's right... nothing.

"Archers, get in position. Draw arrows... get in position and FIRE!"

Hundreds of arrows flew into the air, spilling rebel blood. The rebels with their own volley, though thousand times less deadly. They knew there was no chance in hell they could win... or even come back alive.

After an hour of chasing sh.i.p.s, the battle was won. Those rebels were too chicken for boarding so we had to chase them around until the archers picked them all off. Then we sailed back to Bloodstone.

"Dragonsguard, with me."

I gathered the Dragonsguard and walked down to the prison. The prison guards lay dead on the floor with their throats slit. Not to my surprise, Robert was missing.

"Bloody hell... I was right."

I walked up to the stairs of the prison and returned to the castle, my home.

"Robb, I want you to extend the Dragonsguard to ten members... maybe you could establish a hierarchy too while you're at it."

"It will be done, Your Grace."

I go past the throne into the corridor where I found my bedchamber. I opened the door and dropped onto my comfortable bed. Izanami just happened to be on the other side, she was reading a book.

"Back from your little adventure?"

"Well... things didn't go as I planned. The rebels blocked the way to Pentos, so I had to raise an army and defeat them. Then I found out that Robert was rescued while I was away. Tomorrow I will head out and crush, the rebel faction, Freedom."

"Uhoh... it seems to me that you got royally finessed."

"Right. By the way... do you recognise the names Aerios, Surge, Rotias, Celia..."

"No, I have no idea."

"Alright then."

The book was probably just some fantasy then.

~Sleep~

Flames burned away my wonderful dream, where I could accurately hit a target a thousand yards away (wish I had that range). Now what? My status, the Dragon or a prophecy? Maybe it's all three.

In a group of islands, a crimson red dragon flew up into the sky. Flames rapidly rose from the ground to stop the Dragon. He flew right through them. Then a powerful hurricane appeared and absorbed the dragon, the flames included.

Bye-bye dragon.

Looks like he heard me.

The Dragon furiously broke away from the hurricane and absorbed it. Then flew into the sky again, stronger than ever, ... but an ice wall appeared. Then the dream ended.

What is all this supposed to mean?

~

I woke up early that day. I quickly got dressed and took my greatsword, it's good to have a weapon close just in case.

Then I gathered up my men and got ready to sail out. The plan was to gather all of our forces and then split into two groups. I would go to the south-west while Duncan would go to the south-east islands. The idea was to quickly end the rebellion before it grows into a bigger problem.

"My Lord... Ren has joined the Rebellion."

Ren of all people. Can't he see that this rebellion is pointless... my victory is assured.

"Another traitor that will bite the dust... anything else, Duncan?"

"No."

Then we took a week gathering all of our forces. My almighty army totalled three thousand and thirty-five sh.i.p.s. Pretty cool. But there was a huge problem, thirty-five sh.i.p.s is not enough for a whole three thousand men. I will have to leave over a thousand men on land... oh well. We can still end the rebellion with relative ease.

I gave Duncan twenty sh.i.p.s, leaving fifteen for myself.

"Don't trip on a sword, Duncan."

He smiled.

"I shall be careful, Your Grace."

We said our goodbyes and split to east and west. For some reason, Izanami wanted to come along... which I didn't mind.

We went from island to island, cleansing them from all rebel influence. It was way too easy in my opinion, Freedom wouldn't just let us kill their followers one by one... they probably had a plan. And where is that Ren... is he in the east or underground? I can't find that man anywhere.

"Aerion... take a look..."

I was happily napping at that time, but then I was disturbed by Izanami.

"Oi, wake up."

"... what? What could be more important than my n-"

"Just look, idiot."

She handed me the spyglass.

"Fine."

I looked around with the spyglass.

"The rebels... finally they're showing some backbone."

I smiled. It was a long time since I have fought a proper battle. I grab my great sword and tell my men to prepare for the up-and-coming exchange. They have slightly more sh.i.p.s and men than we do, but we still had a pretty good chance of victory. I really hope Ren is in one of those sh.i.p.s... I would love to cleave him in half.

"Thank you, Izanami."

"For what?"

"Warning me of the attack..."

"Your welcome."

If I was still napping, I would have most likely been awoken by a fire arrow in my knee.

Thunder cracked through the clouds and struck one of the rebel sh.i.p.s. Then it started to rain and thunder started dropping everywhere. The powerful and violent wind started appearing in every direction.

What in the seven hells is this weather? The strong wind started transforming into a hurricane. Then something came to me... the Prophecy! The fire... it could be the rebellion and the hurricane is... well, the hurricane. But the Dragon recovers, so I might survive this... might.

"Captain, have we angered any gods recently?"

"No, Robb... I don't think... we have."

It was getting hard to breathe because of the heavy wind. The hurricane was slowly creeping up on The Mad King.

"Robb... RUN!"

Then thunderstruck. The last thing I saw was my crew become dust and the Mad King being s.u.c.k.e.d into the hurricane. It all happened too quickly for tears to form on my face. My brain was racing with sorrowful thoughts.

I wish... I wish I could see my family again. My mother, father, grandfather, grandmother, twin sister, baby brother, aunt and uncle... I wish I could see them all again. I hope Viserys and Dany are alright... I wonder how my brother and sister would have looked like if they survived... My brother would probably be a charismatic prince (like myself) while my sister would be a beautiful princess. Now I'm dead too... maybe I can meet them in Heaven... if there is one.

After that day everyone in Aerion's fleet was written off as dead... including Aerion Targaryen. Many were depressed hearing this news while others were celebrating. The last child of Rhaegar was confirmed as dead until further notice.

One day the Prince Aerion Targaryen will rise again and bring terror to the Land... but that day is not today.

End.
