The CEO's Rented Wife

Lina's anger made her forget the pain. Although her foot was badly injured, her focus towards making sincere attempts in trying to control her emotions made her forget any pain. She thanked the helper for his help and asked him to take back the wheel chair. She decided to walk towards the nearest lift.

Lina walked swiftly as she tolerated the pain that rose immediately because of the sudden movement and the weight being put on the foot. Yet, Lina paid no attention and kept on walking. Tears rolled down her eyes because of the pain, but she did not stop. She reached the lift and was soon in her office.

Lina entered her office and sat on her seat as she noticed Wang watching her from his office. Lina and Wang's office were besides each other and were separated by a glass wall.

Wang observed that Lina was very upset, and yet, she continued with her work with determination.

There was a mountain of emails that had arrived during the day that needed organizing and responding to and mountains of mail arrived that needed filing – Lina began to work on them. Later, she checked all the voicemails and made sure all the administrative and other items on the day's list have been tended to.

The last task was to work on Wang's to-do list which she had to update at the end of every day. She had to discuss this with Mr. Wang so as to list out the next day's priorities. Lina decided to visit Wang's office for the discussion. Her foot pain was now too much to tolerate. She looked for her comfy sports shoes that she always brought with her to the office, so that she could wear them when going back home. She did not want to spoil her expensive high-heeled sandals. Plus, her foot was already injured. She would not be able to walk on such high heels.

Lina searched in the area where she had kept her shoes, but could not find them. She looked for them in the office's cabinet, but they were not there.

Lina's search for her sports shoes was interrupted as Chunhua entered her office suddenly. She had a wicked smile on her face.

"Searching for something?" Chunhua asked Lina with an expression of a warrior who had won a battle.

"Err.. Nothing," replied Lina.

"If you are looking for those ugly sports shoes of yours.. stop looking for them. The cleaner threw them away," giggled Chunhua.

Lina was stunned. "What? Why did you throw them away? They were my property. Who gave you the right to touch my things?" yelled Lina.

Chunhua winked at Lina and gave another wicked smile. "I did not say that I touched your shoes. I said that the cleaner has thrown them away. He found them when he was cleaning your office. He might have thought that the shoes were discarded. They were torn from many places. I was passing through the corridor when I saw the cleaner taking the shoes with him. I thought that I should inform you about this. You already are in so much pain," laughed Chunhua.

"You are such a liar," rebuked Lina as she stared at Chunhua.

"I don't need to lie, sweetie. Anyways, I'll go now. I have some important work to do," said Chunhua with a bossy expression. "And, I don't think you need to worry about those shoes of yours. Those high-heeled sandals look good on you. And you look pretty comfortable as you walk wearing those high heels. I am sure they will comfort your injured foot," winked Chunhua. Her expression clearly showed that she knew about Lina's hatred for the high-heeled sandals.

Chunhua walked out of Lina's office and headed towards the lift.

Lina had no other option but to wear her high-heeled sandals. She walked slowly, as the injured foot's pain further intensified due to the high heels. She walked towards her office's door as she carried all the files and doc.u.ments that she needed to discuss with Wang, before she could call it a day.

Wang had been observing everything from across the glass wall. He had already noticed Lina's routine of wearing sports shoes before leaving for her home, but never mentioned it.
