The CEO's Rented Wife

Chapter 82 - 'Can't ask for another pair of sandals'

Lina walked slowly towards Wang's office. She knocked on the door and was asked to come in by Wang.

Wang was already waiting for Lina's arrival. He wanted to know about her foot's condition. "How is the pain now," asked Wang as he observed Lina walking slowly in the high-heeled sandals, trying to control herself from crying.

"Mr. Wang, I wish to go back to my home after I discuss your schedule for tomorrow," said Lina as she gave a forced smile. The words of Aunt Ning went through brain.

"Lina, I think you should have straightaway gone to your home. I would have dropped you on the way," said Wang as his heart melted after watching Lina's injured foot wrapped in the bandage and being awkwardly tilted in the high-heeled sandals. "You worked hard the entire day. Plus, the pain might have further drained out all your energy," continued Wang.

"Sir, I had to complete my work. I have replied to all the mails and have made your to-do list for tomorrow," replied Lina. "There was a lot of work to do. I cannot skip my work. This would have created a lot of inconvenience for you," shared Lina.

"You can hand over these doc.u.ments to me and go back to your home," ordered Wang.

"As you say, Mr. Wang. Thank you for understanding my situation," Lina, again, gave a forced smile as she tried her best not to let her facial expressions express her pain.

Her pain was not hidden from Wang. He watched her injured foot for a few seconds and spoke again. "Lina, why are you wearing these footwear? They would further aggravate your pain. You should wear something flatter. Should I ask for a pair of company's shoes for you?" suggested Wang.

"Errr.. I brought my shoes along me with to the office, but I cannot wear them. They are torn from many places," lied Lina.

Wang had always wanted to know the reason why Lina carried her shoes along with her to the office. And, now was the time. "Shoes! What shoes are you talking about?" Wang inquired.

"Oh! Nothing serious! It's just that I find it hard to walk on high heels. So, I always wore sports shoes while going back to my home. Plus, I don't want my sandals to get dirty. I can't ask for another pair of sandals," confessed Lina.

Wang was surprised. He wanted to know more. "What do you mean by 'ask for another pair of sandals'? Who is the one from whom you have to ask for new sandals?" inquired Wang.

Lina realized her mistake. She should not have said that. "Err.. Umm.. M.. my grandmother! I am talking about my grandmother. She's the one who manages the entire finance of our house. She has saved a little money for all of us. If I spoil these sandals, I might have to ask for a new pair of sandals from her. And, I don't want this to happen," Lina made up a story to make up for her previous fault.

"Hmm… I see!" sighed Wang. His expression clearly indicated that he was not convinced. He looked at Lina for a few seconds and spoke again. "You can give me those doc.u.ments. I'll check them by myself. You can go back to your home now. I'll ask Robin to drop you at your house. Just give some rest to your foot," Wang ordered.

"I will, Mr. Wang. Thank you for your help. If you need to discuss anything about the to-do list, please feel free to call me anytime. I have a copy of the list in my mobile. I will make the suitable changes," smiled Lina as she began to walk out of Wang's office. "Have a good night, Mr. Wang," greeted Lina.

"Good night to you too, Lina," Wang greeted back.

Lina, slowly, walked out of Wang's office. Wang kept on observing Lina, as his minded pondered over the conversation that he just had with her.

Lina walked towards the lift and reached the ground floor. She asked the receptionist to call the helper along with a wheel chair. The pain was getting too much for her to tolerate.

Soon, the helper was there and he took Lina to the parking area where Robin had been waiting for Lina's arrival.
