The Doctor Who Loves Me

Chapter 42 - The Only Thing That Matters

"Aren't it a bit too much to put a watch over her like 24/7?" Murmured Rui when Xander ended the call on his mobile phone. Xander just talked to his security team and reminded them to keep Yera safe once she left the restaurant. He even heard him said that they should never miss a second out of their sight whenever Yera was not with him.

"It's not 24/7 Rui… Don't exaggerate okay? Of course, there's no watch if she's with me. I told you, I don't want any loose ends and I want my woman well protected. I'm not like that Lyndon who had failed to protect her or who knows he could be the culprit for Yera's abduction that year…" Xander scoffed as he drank his wine.

"You know that you're a manipulative husband but in a very vague way…" observed Rui as he continued to eat his salad.

Xander laughed and said, "I'll take that as a compliment…"

The good chats of the two where interrupted when Xander's mobile phone beeped and as soon as he read the message he stood up.

"Why are you in a hurry to leave? I'm not even finish with my dessert…" complained Rui as he followed Xander on the way out from the restaurant.

"Hmm, I miss my wife already." commented Xander nonchalantly.

Rui clicked his tongue and was about to comment when Xander paused from walking so did he.

"What are you doing here?" Yera asked with raised eyebrows. She forgot her purse in the room so she went back to get it but she unexpectedly saw Xander who seemed to be on his way out with Rui.

"Are you following me?" She asked directly that made Xander flinched but then he quickly smiled and pulled Rui. "This place is one of Rui's favorite eating places. He suddenly pulled me to go here and have lunch with him."

Rui almost choked at Xander's sudden grabbing. He was giving him a signal to say something so Rui said, "Oh yeah, I suddenly crave for lobsters so I asked Xander to have lunch here.

Yera frowned and murmured, "They don't serve seafoods in here I believe."

Xander interrupted and quickly changed the topic before his dear friend sabotage everything. "So this is where you meet him? How did it go? By the way, go back with me. Rui brought his own car anyway…"

Rui's face crumpled and muttered scornfully, "I did?"

Xander patted his shoulder and smiled as he said, "See you back in the hospital."

Rui wanted to tweak Xander's hair as the latter walked with Yera. 'What a liar…' he  complained.

He got his mobile phone and dialed his driver to pick him up. Then he smirked because he would definitely charge every penny of this extra service he rendered at Xander.

....

Inside the car, there was only silence as Xander waited for Yera to open up to him. However, it was really hard for him to wait as he was itching to know how her meeting with Lyndon went.

So he murmured, "How was it?"

Yera did not respond but after a few more minutes he heard her released a deep long sigh. "As expected, he did give me a good offer and said he will wait for my decision because I told him I have to think about it carefully and consider a lot of things." she narrated then she included the offer Lydon gave her.

"Not bad," Xander commented but it was not Lyndon's offer he was interested to know. Xander sighed because he did not want to interfere too much with Yera's personal matters but then he was curious. He was thinking of a good way to ask Yera about the real  thing he wanted to know.

He was about to ask but Yera suddenly spoke, "I think it's not Lyndon… His eyes are sincere. Those are the eyes of someone longing for a loved one. His eyes…"

Xander was holding his breath as he listened to Yera.

He could not help but comment, "Looks can be deceiving and eyes too… Don't you know that? That's why the entertainment industry sells well. People can gain the best actor and best actress awards because their acting is very good and genuine even their eyes speak how good they are."

Yera knew Xanderd did have a point so she must not let her guard down.

"Hmm, how is he? I mean physically? He did get old right?" Xander blurted out of nowhere that made Yera flinched. 'What's with that question?' she mused but then gave Xander an answer as she said, "He's still the same, tall dark and handsome… He's the type who will never age because he takes good care of himself."

It was true, Lyndon was fit and healthy too because he loved to work out.

"Who do you think is more handsome? Me or him?" Xander bluntly asked that almost made Yera choked on her own saliva.

She turned her head and deliberately looked at Xander in disbelief who quickly gaze at her to give her his most sweetest smile followed by a wink before turning back his head on the road.

"Aren't you going to answer? Because I intend to stop the car at the side of the road and wait for your answer…" Xander said grinning. He knew he was acting childish once more but he could not help the urge to do so.

Yera, as usual, did not have the energy to debate why would he ask something like that so she honestly said, "You are…"

"But not anyone have the same opinion. Maybe for me you look better than Lyndon but then to others Lyndon may look better… Simply depends on the eye of the beholder as what the saying goes…" Yera added casually.

"Others opinion doesn't matter. Whatever you say is the only thing that matters to me…" Xander uttered in a serious tone.

Yera's heartbeat thumped abnormally once more… 'What's with him?' she complained silently as she chose not to comment back because she was left speechless and she did not know how she should respond. She simply could not find the words...
