The Heavenly Crystal

Chapter 20 - Bright City

The next morning, they halted their practice to make temporary housing outside the mansion for the women that came the other day.

Roan bought the materials and began working on the temporary rooms for the ladies. Aside from collecting metal scraps, Roan and his two friends also worked as part-time construction workers on Ridge City for quite some time. After they finished making the building they were working with, they never had the opportunity to continue doing part time jobs again. So they were rather experienced in carpentry.

"Mark, continue your surveillance on that subdivision, but this time, no more reckless decisions. If you see something, just endure for now. When the the others have enough experience, then maybe we can try saving the inhabitants of the subdivision." Roan calmly spoke as he looked Mark who nodded his head in response. He then went outside to go towards the subdivision to continue his surveillance.

"Will he be okay out there alone? He might be strong, but we don't know if there are any strange beasts outside." Karl asked Roan with a bit of worry.

Roan looked at him calmly and said "He will be fine. And if ever there are indeed beasts that he can't handle, he will still be able to escape them."

They spent the whole day making more than ten rooms for the ladies. Roan also placed the bed that Mark bought in there and purchased several necessary items for each room. They also made the rooms big enough for two people to stay.

Roan checked the Store again and he was surprised to see some sort of timer on the upper left part of the store interface. It says "22:08:38" and it continued to move "22:08:35"

'What is this timer for? In 22 days, what will happen?' he thought worriedly. He did not tell what he discovered to the rest of the group to prevent them from panicking.

'Let's just hope that it is not something bad.' he thought to himself.

"Karl, Terrius, I'll go and practice outside. Stay here and ensure everyone's safety while I'm gone. My current strength is still lacking compared to some beasts outside. They continue to evolve everyday without stop just from killing weaker beings and gaining experience points. I'm not entirely sure if their leveling works the same with ours, but all I know is that everyday, they become even more terrifyingly strong." sad Roan as he looked at the darkening sky.

"Sigh, for how long will you be gone?" Karl asked worriedly as he stared at the calm face of Roan. Terrius similarly looked at Roan with worry.

"I'll be gone for at most a week or two. On the days that I'm not here, continue helping the rest boost their levels, but of course safety is top priority. And if Mark comes back, just tell him to continue surveying the subdivision and to not make any reckless move." he replied while patting their backs.

"Don't worry, we will make sure nothing bad wikl happen here while you are gone. Just be back in one piece you idiot." Karl scolded jokingly. Roan smiled and nodded his head before heading outside.

Terrius and Karl looked at his back with complicated emotions and they also felt proud of having such a friend.

Roan went outside the gates and breathe the fresh air beyond the walls. He gazed at the distance and saw the wild trees and shrubberies which has now grown exceptionally lush. He looked back at the mansion and smiled. Any woman who will see that smile will be captivated in less than a second. Even flowers hid in embarrassment after seeing his handsome face smile beautifully. He did not say goodbye to the ladies as he don't want to see their worried faces, so he just decided to go out without them knowing.

Roan walked towards the direction of a forested region which was about a few kilometers away from Bright City. His goal in going to that huge forest is to temper himself and to exerience living with the behemoths inside. It might be foolish in other people's eyes, but if he continued to remain inside the walls forever, then it won't take time for stronger beasts to invade it in the future.

As Roan was walking towards Bright City, he encounted several strange undeads.

[Runner....]

He studied the strange undeads and was shock to see that they were also evolving fast. The Runners had strong muscular legs and the same ugly looking face. Their were completely white, but they can still see clearly despite that. Or they might have been using a different sense to locate the humans and beasts that they will prey on.

The unmoving Runners' body twitched upon smelling his humanly flesh. They dashed towards his direction with big strides, and saliva kept on dripping from their mouths. Roan was shocked about their speed, he unsheathed his newly bought sword.

[Sword of Lamentation] (Diamond)

ATK: 730

He spent his remaining coins just to purchase this Diamond level sword. And from the looks of it, his purchase was not in vain as he effortlessly beheaded all the Runners that attacked him. It felt like a hot knife slicing through butter. He sheathed the sword back to its scabbard, and all the dead Runner's bodies fell on the ground one by one, before he continued to walk like nothing of significance happened.

He passed through the Eastern Road, while killing all the monsters that went after him. After about two hours of walking, he arrived inside Bright City.

The once tall and proud skyscr.a.p.ers that pierced the skies were now reduced into ruins. Destroyed vehicles blocked the road and even the surrounding beautiful establishments were now just debris scattered everywhere.

Roan continued his journey towards the forest which he now call 'Death Forest' as a lot of terrifyingly strong beasts lived inside.
