The Heavenly Crystal

Chapter 21 - Wind Wolf

"Aaarrgh!" A loud and terrified scream of a man reached Roan's ears. He hastily ran towards where the scream originated. He hid behind a wall of a dilapidated building and peeked at where the sound came from. He saw a huge wolf beast munching on a human body with its sharp rows of teeth. It was about as huge as a bus with long sharp claws and gray fur. The wolf beast could strike fear on any humanc that will see its fearsome appearance.

Roan knew for sure not to provoke the Wind Wolf after seeing its high stats. Even if he had the Sword of Lamentation with him, he might die if he is not careful enough. But the thought of killing the beast and gaining a lot of EXP is very attracting, so he remained on his spot and waited for an opportunity to take out the Wind Wolf in one blow.

The wolf unaware of his presence continued eating its snack. Roan saw that the wolf was about to swallow the human whole and decided to attack with all his strength. Beautiful flaming wings emerged on his back, brightly illuminating the night. His Sword of Lamentation was also burning with intense raging flames as he flew straight towards the surprised Wind Wolf. He somersault ed in midair and slashed his sword creating a massive burning sword wind that traveled swiftly towards the Wind Wolf. The wolf disappeared on its previous location and arrived somewhere far. The burning sword wind hit the ground and incinerated everything on its vicinity causing a strong explosion.

Roan was surprised that the wolf was able to evade his sneak attack. He stared at the Wind Wolf and saw that a part of the beast was burnt black greatly hurting it. The wolf gazed at Roan menacingly while baring its sharp fangs towards him. The wolf growled threateningly at him ignoring its wounds. Although it was hurt by Roan's sneak attack, it was not fatal damage, so it can still fight with its full strength. The wolf produced fearsome gales around it which was able to tear the walls of a nearby building.

'Shit, I provoked the wrong beast. I should have avoided fighting this Platinum level beast.' he thought with a hint of nervousness.

The wolf remained on its position still obviously threatened by Roan's strength and his sword also made its gray fur stand on end. The both of them looked at each other waiting for a chance to strike.

Roan removed his Flaming Wings and landed on the ground gracefully. Although he leveled up several times on the past few days, it was still not enough to control the Flaming Wings for prolonged periods of time.

The wolf grew impatient and decided to strike first. It howled in anger and rapidly dashed towards Roan while sending sharp wind blades on him. Roan found it hard evading the wind blades as it moved towards him in great speed. He pushed his left hand forward like he was trying to stop something. Suddenly, a strong ice barricade emerged on the ground blocking the sharp wind blades from slicing him. The wolf continued sending wind blades towards him and pounced at Roan when he was on its jumping range. Roan produced more ice barriers through his Water Manipulation skill. After practicing his Water Manipulation for a few days, he was finally able to conjure strong ice barriers that can block most strong attacks.

The wolf clawed the ice barrier breaking it into pieces like a fragile glass meeting its doom from a huge slab of stone. Its claw continued towards Roan with no reduction in strength and speed. Roan gritted his teeth and produced fearsome flames around him while receiving the wolf's claw with his sword. The wolf howled in pain amidst Roan's fearsome flames, but it smacked Roan with its other claw sending him flying in mid air. The wolf jumped in an attempt to snap Roan with its sharp teeth, but was met with several burning sword winds. It twisted its huge body in mid air to evade Roans slashes, but it still received several slashes on its body causing ghastly wounds to surface wetting its gray fur in red blood. Despite its grievous wounds, the wolf still landed a claw strike on Roan's body, his Gold level chainmail was not even able to block the wolf's sharp claws. The claw srike caused three lines of deep and horryfing wounds on Roan's body, the momentum from the attack also sent his body flying and finally stopping on a ruined building nearby.

His body was firmly etched on the building walls. Aside from leaving three long lines of deep wounds, the claw strike from the wolf also broke some of his ribs.

"F.u.c.k!" He tried to move his severely injured body and he felt himself throwing a mouthful of blood. He wiped the blood on his lips and jump out of the building walls. He landed on ground unstably opening more wounds on his body. He spat another mouthful of blood and knelt on the ground while coughing heavily. After a moment, he peered into where the wolf was thrown and heard it whimpering quietly while l.i.c.k.i.n.g its bloodied body.

"It's still alive!" Burning embers of fire emerged on his beautiful eyes, but despite his anger towards the Wind Wolf, he rather admired its strength and speed. It was the first beast that made him suffer heavy wounds. He got up and and picked up his Sword of Lamentation that was thrown away a few moments ago. He then walked slowly towards the Wind Wolf who instantly growled threateningly at him. It was currently too weak to fight back against this human's fearsome flames, so all it could do was emit intimidating growls. Roan was covered in cold sweat, afraid that the beasts might again produce wind blades towards him, but luckily, the beast was currently so heavily injured that it can do nothing but growl at him.

Roan stopped walking towards the wolf when he was only about two meters away from it. He raised his Sword of Lamentation and pointed it towards the injured wolf who looked at the sword warily. Beautiful flaming wings emerged on his body again, but he did not attack the wolf. He scrutinized the wolf before finally saying "I'll give you an opportunity to live. Follow me on my journey and fight fearsome creatures together with me. Being a lone hunter is such a waste of your strength."

The wolf stopped growling and was silent for several seconds before it tried to stand up weakly. Roan saw the wolf struggling to stand up and waited for its move. Although the wolf might not understand him, but he still tried talking with the wolf in a bid to express his d.e.s.i.r.e for it to follow him. The wolf was finally able to stand up feebly with its four legs. It spat mouthful of blood before it moved towards Roan slowly. When it was only about a few inches away from him, it lowered its huge head towards him in a form of fealty.

Roan smiled and sheathed his sword back on its scabbard, before petting the head of the huge Wind Wolf.
