The Little Calamity

Chapter 3 - 3: trust

Rayne was barely 5 meters away from the man when he was ready to jump on him. At the last second he jumped to the side while a bullet hole appeared on the ground where he just was.

" So that's the famous little calamity, the one that has been terrorizing the blood ci.. woah!"

The man had a c.o.c.ky grin but Rayne simply rushed him without a care.

' Weird I don't feel any killing intent.'

He hesitated for a second which gave an opening to the gunner who shot another bullet, Rayne quickly moved his head to the side avoiding the attack that was going for his eyes.

' Good accuracy, this would have killed me. He wants to kill me but he still doesn't have any killing intent.'

His mind was confused but his reflex were too sharp to be caught by such a simple trick. Even if he couldn't trust his instinct for this fight the man still had no chance. He evaded a few more bullets yet as if the man planned it, one came directly for his eyes while he was destabilized.

Without any emotion Rayne jumped to avoid it before using a wall to rush his enemy, this was so fast that the man became fl.u.s.tered, his c.o.c.ky grin was nowhere to be seen. He blocked the savage hit at the cost of his left arm and kicked Rayne, or so he thought.

Rayne put his hand on the man's leg and used it to jump in the air while snatching the gun. He aimed mid air and directly hit the man's eye before shooting at two other gunner that were aiming at him. He easily predicted their movement, even though they tried to evade they died instantly.

' … no more bullet.'

He threw the gun and and rushed in the crowd, killing everyone just like always. In the end a single man was left. He was on the ground while shaking in fear, he had no intention to fight and never made a single move against Rayne.

' He was with the warm woman.'

" What.. di..d you do... with b..oar?"

Hearing his voice the man pissed his pants before crawling backward.

" I.. we ate it! I am sorry sir! Don't kill me!"

Rayne tried to smile to show a sign of peace but it only made things worst. Without a care of what the man felt he picked up a bag of food and brought it with him. In this carnage only two men lived, Rayne and that man, a few people looked from the houses and a few came after hearing that the the carnage was over yet none daring to touch that man drenched in piss in fear that they would anger something they shouldn't.

Rayne sat in a dark alley while eating.

" B... B. bo.. B are hard to say."

He was practicing his speech since he felt like nobody was understanding him. While he was eating he couldn't help but think of the gunner.

' He was strong, perhaps the strongest person I fought against.'

Ever since he was a kid nobody ever predicted his movements like this and nobody ever survived a single of his killing hits. There was a few people that injured him using numbers and ambushes but this was... different.

In the end he was too curious, he buried his bag of food and went back to the man's body to remove his head.

' I need to find someone to ask about his identity.'

He walked around the city for a bit but nobody dared to come close to him especially since he was holding a head. When he was about to give up his sharp hearing picked up the sound of people yelling in the distance, he started running instinctively towards it.

He was so fast that people could barely see him, it didn't take long to arrive at the scene where three guys were surrounding a woman.

' Warm woman.'

He dropped what he was holding and caught two of the men's head before crushing them together, before they could even fall he kicked the last man in the c.h.e.s.t with so much strength that he flew into a wall, never to move again.

' She was ready to attack but there was no killing intent again.. Is she dangerous?'

For him who based his entire life on the feeling of killing intent this was disorienting. The woman looked at him and smiled again. He was wary but he couldn't predict any attack from her which was completely different from the gunner.

" You saved me again, thank you."

She approached him to pat his head but he saw it as an attack, his body was about to break her entire arm but he held himself back at the last moment and jumped away.

" What are you do..ing?!"

The shock let him talk a little more smoothly. The woman looked at him with confusion but she quickly realized that he probably didn't know what this action meant.

" This is called petting, it's a show of affection and thanks."

" Aff..ection and pet..ing?"

He didn't know what these two words meant. Seeing him like this she realized that she nearly ended up like the three men, she couldn't help but shiver a little. If it was outside she could easily survive his assault but in this place she knew that she stood no chance against him.

' It's already a surprise he didn't attack me. He really does have a kind heart despite being like this.'

She kept her smile, feeling even more curious about this man. She walked slowly this time to make sure he wouldn't feel threatened.

" Let me show you, I promise it won't hurt."

It wasn't that Rayne was scared, he just had no idea of what touching someone else could be used for apart from killing them. To him being touched meant wounds and danger still he felt strangely calm when he looked at her. After some hesitation he decided to stay still.

' She is not preparing any attack, only her hand will touch my head at a slow speed, this cannot hurt me.'

Even if he knew this his entire body was telling him to break her arm. In the end he resisted as her hand touched his long, unkempt hair. Even through the thick layer of blood, dirt and hair he could somehow felt the warmth of her hand. For a moment he dropped his defense which caused his instincts to take over his body, he jumped away again but there was no attack to dodge.

" See, it wasn't that bad."

At this moment although this woman looked a little ugly to Rayne she seemed like the greatest beauty in the world. Her smile seemed to awaken something inside of him.

" Felt.. good."

She walked closer to him ever so slowly but this time his body didn't react as strongly, in fact he felt like he wanted her to come closer.

" What's your name?"

" Rayne."

It was the first time he told anyone his name, it was the only thing he remembered of himself along with his rough age.

" Rayne, it's a good name. I am Arisa, do you know your age or the name of your parents?"

She wanted to know how such a superhuman like him came to exist so she wanted to know as much as he wanted to say.

" I sh..ould bee thirteen ye..ar old. No parents. I always lived he..re."

Her warm smile transformed into complete shock. With his look, strength and the way he could kill without flinching she believe he was around the same age as her but he was half her age. She immediately felt like she needed to protect him, she unconsciously hugged him. When she realized the danger it was already too late.

She looked down at him to see how he would react but his face didn't change, only his eyes seemed to regain a bit of light.
